Chapter 685 Eager to Be the Other Woman

Harold didn't respond to the statement but switched gears, "Hey, do you remember what you said about Desiree earlier?"

"Yeah, of course, I remember." Isolde was puzzled by Harold's sudden question.

But she had the guts to say it once, so she could say it again.

And this time, Harold was asking her directly.

"Desiree was with another guy before she even divorced you. She's not a good woman, you saw it yourself. Harold, I know it's tough to swallow, but you can't lie to yourself, right?" Isolde added, "And if Mrs. Lewis finds out, she'll be even more pissed."

"Desiree and I aren't divorced yet. Miss Porter, I'm still married. Are you trying to be a homewrecker here?" Harold didn't hold back.

Isolde's face went from red to white, her lips trembling.

How could Harold say something so harsh?

"We haven't done anything. How can it be considered..." Isolde tried to explain.

"Desiree and Daryl are even more innocent. They haven't even hugged or been in a room together with messed-up clothes. Plus, her mom wouldn't drug her own kid," Harold cut her off.

He got really mad just thinking about it.

These days, people treated their pets like royalty, even considering their pets' opinions when dating.

But his mom went to such extremes.

Isolde still didn't want to admit she was the homewrecker. She kept arguing, "Mrs. Lewis doesn't like Desiree because of her issues. Otherwise, why would their relationship be so strained?"

"I don't like you. So, by your logic, it's your problem. Go home, think about it, and stay away from me," Harold shot back.

Isolde was left speechless.

She wiped her tears and played her trump card. "I know you don't like me, but Mrs. Lewis is in the hospital. Her wish is for us to spend more time together. Can you really make her upset?"

Harold suddenly felt very annoyed.

When he got back, he needed to ask the doctor how serious Ember's illness was and when she could be discharged.

He didn't want to listen to Ember's one-sided stories anymore, nor did he want to live a life full of resentment. What kind of life would that be?

He glanced at his watch. "I have work to do at the company. I'll give you half an hour. If you want to ask about Hermione, do it quickly. Time's ticking."

"Got it, let's hurry and buy it." Isolde jogged to keep up with him.

At the third-floor grilled fish restaurant.

Since Daryl sat down, he had been busy, either pouring water for Desiree or wiping the table with a napkin.

"Daryl, stop it. Let the waiter handle this stuff. Besides, the table is already clean, it doesn't need another wipe." Desiree stopped him.

She knew he was trying to be nice.

But she really didn't need it.

Daryl tossed the napkin into the trash. "Desiree, I'm just afraid you'll feel wronged."

"How could I feel wronged?" Desiree laughed.

Even though she had just seen Harold, it didn't mean anything. She wasn't going to be heartbroken over a simple glance.

She was already learning to slowly forget him.

Life was long, and she couldn't be stuck in sorrow over one man forever.

"I wanted to take you to a fancy hotel for dinner, but you were hungry, so we just found a random place in the mall. Desiree, when you were still with the Sandvik Family, did you ever have to deal with such inconveniences?" Daryl continued.

His point was clear: it was all Harold's fault for wronging her.

Harold's family was pretty average. Even though he had saved a lot over the years, besides buying a house, he also had to run his own business, so life was definitely not very affluent.

But the Sandvik Family, with their long-established business, had a steady cash flow, regular dividends, and countless fixed assets. The rent from their properties alone was enough to live on.

Desiree got what he was hinting at, but she really didn't feel wronged. "This restaurant's grilled fish is super fresh, and a lot of people come here to eat. It's good to switch things up sometimes. Besides grilled fish, I eat street food too."

Especially during the tough times with Harold.

They were busy and didn't have much money. When they came home late from work, they usually grabbed food on the way home.

Those times were really relaxed and pleasant.

Looking back now, Desiree didn't regret it at all and didn't feel wronged.

"Street food?" Daryl's eyes reddened. "If you marry me, I will never let you suffer like that. Desiree, I swear, I'll make you the envy of everyone as Mrs. Fields."

Just then, the waiter brought the grilled fish, and the steam blocked his view.

"Enjoy your meal." The waiter set the table for them before leaving.

Desiree picked up the knife and fork, took a piece of fish, and put it in her mouth. "This food is really good. You should try it. Let's eat."

Since she had already started eating, Daryl couldn't stop her.

He did as she did but frowned. "Desiree, this fish isn't good at all. Farmed fish can't compare to freshly caught sea fish, and the waiter's service attitude is bad."

He was talking about something important just now. If the waiter had any sense, she shouldn't have interrupted them.

She could have brought the fish earlier or later. But she had to bring it at that moment, clearly to spite him.

"What did you just say? I didn't hear it clearly. Can you say it again?" Desiree looked up and wiped her mouth with a wet napkin.

She really didn't hear it clearly.

The grilled fish restaurant was crowded, with people talking and laughing around them, making it noisy. Plus, she was focused on eating.

Daryl had to shake his head. "I didn't say anything important. If you didn't hear it, forget it. Let's eat first."

Anyway, they had plenty of opportunities to spend time together. If he didn't succeed in confessing today, he could try next time. He wasn't in a hurry.
