Chapter 365 Pearl is rescued
Nicholas was lagging behind.
Elijah shot him a smug look, thinking he was faster.
Inside, Pearl was startled by their shouting and shoved Oscar away.
Acting casual, she picked up her fork and kept eating, her face red with embarrassment, hoping they hadn't noticed.
Oscar stumbled back, surprised by Pearl's strength. He glanced at the door and saw Nicholas and Elijah standing there.
Oscar's face darkened, clearly displeased. His good time had been interrupted, so how could he be happy?
With a cold stare, he glared at them.
Elijah and Nicholas only saw the two eating, clueless about the kiss they interrupted.
Oscar's clothes were wrinkled from Pearl's grip. Elijah, clueless about romance, said, "Oscar, you must've slept badly. Your clothes are a mess. Let me fix them!"
He meant well.
As he approached, Oscar kicked him in the leg, hard.
Elijah winced in pain. "Oscar, why'd you kick me?"
Nicholas laughed, glad he wasn't the one being helpful.
Elijah glared at Nicholas, almost cursing.
Oscar coldly ordered, "You two, run a hundred laps!"
Nicholas stopped laughing, confused. "Why do I have to run? He messed up!"
Oscar's eyes narrowed. "Make it a hundred and fifty for you."
Elijah felt a bit better.
Nicholas was almost in tears.
"Move it!"
They didn't dare disobey. The weather was nice, but they didn't expect to be punished the moment they arrived.
"Yes, sir!"
They stood at attention, then headed out for their run.
Pearl stayed quiet. After they left, she asked, "Wasn't that too harsh?"
"Routine training. They're used to it. Don't worry."
Oscar started changing clothes. Pearl knew he was leaving and asked, "When will you be back?"
"Tonight. If you get bored, call your friends. I'll have someone watch over you."
"Okay."
Pearl helped him straighten his clothes, as usual.
But for Oscar, it felt different now.
"You're pregnant. You don't need to fuss over me. I can handle it," Oscar said, considerate.
Pearl smiled. "I like making my husband look good every day."
"Aren't you worried someone might steal me away?" Oscar teased.
Pearl replied, "Who would dare? If you were that easy to steal, you'd be gone by now. But you are already in love. You'll come home."
She was confident.
After seven years together, she knew he was disciplined and loyal. If he truly loved beauty so much, there should have been many beautiful women around him.
Oscar finished dressing and was ready to leave.
Before leaving, Oscar squatted down and kissed her belly, whispering, "Daddy's going to work. Be good and don't trouble your mom."
He then kissed Pearl's forehead and left.
Pearl saw him to the door and noticed Elijah and Nicholas still running, drenched in sweat and chanting slogans. They were really struggling.
Only when Oscar got in the car and called them back did they stop.
Watching them leave, Pearl went back inside.
She checked her phone and saw "Glory" gaining popularity daily, which made her happy.
Penelope praised her for spotting the script's potential right away, admitting she didn't have as sharp an eye as Pearl.
Eileen's fame had skyrocketed. Her poster was on the tallest billboard downtown, and fans bought ads to play her show three times a day.
The show sparked heated discussions, and Eileen's popularity peaked again.
Fresh out of the hospital, she had endless endorsements and work but still messaged Pearl to stay in touch.
Seeing Eileen's success made Pearl proud, like she had helped her reach the top.
Pearl went to the bedroom, opened the closet, and compared a few pretty dresses in front of the mirror. Even pregnant, she wanted to look nice before going out.
Oscar headed straight to Jeffery's lab.
The lab was dim, and Jeffery was in the middle of an experiment. Seeing Oscar, he stopped and took out a vial. "I've tested this on lab mice. It should cure Pearl's poison."
Oscar was overjoyed. "Really? Pearl is saved!"
He had dreamed of curing Pearl's poison, and this news lifted his biggest burden.
"Thank you, Jeffery!"
Jeffery felt relieved too. "You're welcome. Hurry and give it to Pearl."
Jeffery was needed in many places. He not only had to cure Pearl's poison but also analyze unknown toxins in Oscar's blood.
Despite his past with The Crimson Eclipse Society, his exceptional talent and ability to save lives made him respected and needed by the police. He was treated much better than Barbara.
"I need to continue my tests," Jeffery said.
"Then I won't disturb you."
Oscar left the lab, intending to take the antidote to Pearl.
Someone reported, "Oscar, Haley wants to see you. She says it's very important!"
Oscar frowned, unsure of what Haley was up to. He handed the vial to Elijah.
"Take this to Pearl."
"Yes." Elijah understood the vial's importance. "I'll personally hand it to Ms. Harris."
Oscar went to see Haley.
Haley was in the detention room, sitting on the floor with her hands cuffed, hair disheveled, looking like a madwoman.
Oscar stood at the door, looking at her through the iron window, his face grim.
Haley looked up, a smile appearing on her face. She tried to fix her hair. "Oscar, you're here. Are you here to take me out?"
All her hopes were pinned on Oscar.
But Oscar's face remained grim. "I want to hear about your so-called important matters, not your fantasies!"
