Chapter 529 I See Now

Pearl was lost in her own head, just chilling on the couch.

Then Oscar woke up, totally not expecting to have crashed out like that. He felt like he'd been hit by a truck, his head pounding and his body aching all over.

When he finally sat up, he spotted Pearl on the couch nearby.

She wasn't on her phone, and the main light was off, just the lamp casting a soft glow.

Oscar's gut told him something was up with Pearl.

"What's going on?"

Pearl turned to him as soon as she heard his voice.

Oscar was bathed in the warm orange light.

But right then, she felt like he was a total stranger.

Still, Pearl didn't hold back. "When I got back, you were out cold. But I heard you calling out for Haley."

Oscar didn't say anything, and the room went dead quiet.

Pearl couldn't even put into words how she felt right then.

'It has been five years, and Haley had messed up so much, why is Oscar still thinking about her?'

Out of nowhere, Oscar walked over to her.

He hugged her and said, "It's not that Haley."

"Then who is it?"

Pearl looked up, her eyes locked on Oscar.

She hadn't expected this Haley to be someone else, and she needed answers.

At the same time, she tried to push Oscar away.

The next second, Oscar plopped down next to her.

Oscar's voice was rough, "What I never told you is that Haley is actually you."

"What did you just say?" Pearl was totally floored.

Oscar started to think back.

When he first met Pearl, she said her name was Haley.

Back then, he had no clue.

It wasn't until he heard the name "Magee" from Pearl, and after digging around, he found out Haley was her.

But he thought this would never come up again.

And now, here it was, out in the open.

At that moment, Pearl finally got it.

It was all because of her messed-up memories.

Pearl hugged him and said, "I get it now. I asked because I didn't want to guess on my own; it would've been too painful."

Oscar explained everything to her.

Luckily, there were no misunderstandings or fights.

Oscar kissed her forehead. "I know. Once Christopher gets better, we'll head back."

"Okay." Pearl leaned on his shoulder. Right then, she felt his heartbeat, and she was wrapped in warmth.

Jimena woke up the next day around noon.

Seeing Louis by her side, she knew she had made the right call and smiled with relief.

Seeing her smile, Louis's face turned cold. "I've never seen anyone as dumb as you."

"Don't worry, I won't ask anything from you," Jimena said honestly.

How could she ask anything from Louis?

She just wanted to win him over, just wanted Louis to like her.

Other than that, she had no other plans.

Louis spoke coolly, "I'm not interested in you. But aside from that, you can ask for anything."

Jimena's breath caught. 'Even now, Louis is still saying this?'

She had asked Louis directly and even had someone look into it.

But she couldn't find any dirt on Louis liking guys, nor did she see any signs he was into anyone else.

She bit her lip, feeling super bummed. "Is it because of your job that you don't date?"

Otherwise, how could you explain that there wasn't even a single girl buzzing around Louis?

"That's none of your business."

Louis's tone was ice-cold, and in a flash, his face looked like it was carved from stone, his whole vibe turning frosty and intense.

Jimena got the hint that Louis wanted her to back off.

Jimena shook her head, standing her ground. "I won't give up. I just wanna be with you. Don't worry, I won't mess with your work."

"Don't you get it?" Louis's expression was cold. "You're not my type. Plus, your recent antics have been super annoying. I won't be with someone who bugs me."

Louis wanted Jimena to give up for good, and Jimena got that, but she couldn't accept it; her feelings for Louis were rock solid.

She was so desperate. "Then what kind of girl do you like?"

Louis couldn't help but laugh. "Would you change yourself for me? Get plastic surgery or what? Jimena, if you get plastic surgery, would you still be you?"

Louis's words cut deep, like knives to Jimena's heart.

If she got plastic surgery, she wouldn't be herself anymore.

But Louis didn't like her as she was now.

She hoped Louis could give her a clear path.

Her voice was raspy. "Why can't you give me a chance? I'm not that bad."

"Enough! Get some rest. As for what you want me to do, think it over and tell me," Louis said coolly, showing signs of leaving.

But Jimena couldn't let Louis walk out just like that.

Jimena quickly called out to him, "I've thought it over. You won't let me make that kind of demand. Then I just ask you to be my boyfriend for a month. Is that okay?"

This request sounded crazy and desperate.

But she had no choice; it was her only shot to get close to him.

Jimena looked at Louis with eyes full of hope.

Before Louis could speak, Jimena quickly added, "Isn't this small request okay? Don't worry, I won't bug you after a month. If I don't keep my word, you can kill me."

Jimena was pulling out all the stops to make Louis agree, showing her utmost sincerity.

But to Louis, it was laughable. "Kill you, and then I get the bad rep?"

"Then I'll off myself!" Jimena said urgently.

She was even scared Louis wouldn't believe her, so she hurriedly looked for something to cut her hand to prove herself.

Seeing her actions, Louis thought of Pearl and Oscar.

Pearl and Oscar were inseparable. No matter what happened, they stuck together through thick and thin.

Jimena was the same now. She was willing to give her life for him.

Louis was silent for a moment, then slowly spoke, "Do you like me that much? Are you willing to die for me?"

The next second, Louis looked up at Jimena.

Jimena was indeed willing to die for him.

At that moment, Jimena nodded vigorously.

"Yes, I'd die for you. Or do you think me taking a bullet for you was just an accident?"
