Chapter 321 Living Healthily

Elijah glared at Nicholas. "I treated you like a brother, and you betrayed me!"

Nicholas shot back, "You did the same!"

Elijah turned to Pearl with a forced smile. "Ms. Harris, I'm sorry. It was an accident. My bad!"

Pearl wasn't buying it. "I think you did it on purpose."

"No way! I wouldn't do that," Elijah insisted. "I'm a soldier!"

He stood at attention and saluted.

"Then why are you here?" Pearl asked, looking stern.

Elijah hesitated, then pulled Nicholas. "We came to eat!"

Nicholas quickly added, "Yeah, just here for a meal."

Pearl's face darkened. "The restaurant's small. How come I didn't see you? You ended up in the kitchen causing trouble?"

She got serious. "Aren't you disrupting business?"

Both of them went silent.

"Did Oscar send you to follow me?" Pearl pressed. "What's his deal?"

They hesitated, unsure what to say.

"Where is he?"

"Oscar's not here," Elijah replied. "We're here to protect you."

Pearl sneered. "It's good enough if you don't cause trouble."

Elijah and Nicholas stayed quiet.

"I've divorced Oscar. Why would I need protection?" Pearl said coldly. "Does he want to look like a good guy, being so responsible to his ex-wife? Did his girlfriend agree to this?"

No matter how much Pearl mocked, Oscar couldn't hear her, so she didn't waste her breath.

"Take me to see him!" she demanded.

Elijah and Nicholas couldn't refuse.

They had seen Oscar's pain and helplessness after the divorce, which no one else knew about.

Elijah and Nicholas didn't want to see Oscar and Pearl's relationship end up like this, but they were powerless.

They couldn't tell everything.

Pearl had already said enough last time!

She wanted to scold him awake, to stop him from putting on an act in front of her.

It seemed she hadn't been ruthless enough.

This time, she would scold him thoroughly to prevent Oscar from causing her more trouble in the future!

Before leaving, she said goodbye to Adrian and Jeffery.

She then got into their military vehicle and headed to Oscar's place.

Her apartment was quite far from the villa.

But unexpectedly, Oscar lived nearby, and they arrived at his place in less than ten minutes.

It wasn't surprising that Oscar had property here since he could acquire companies in the area.

However, there were no servants inside.

Apart from a few soldiers, it was quiet.

Pearl got out of the car without saying a word and stormed inside, her steps quick and determined.

Nicholas and Elijah followed behind her.

They were a bit worried; if they were discovered, they would definitely be punished.

They wouldn't escape late-night training!

Entering the villa, Pearl pushed the door open and shouted, "Oscar!"

The spacious room was empty, with no sign of Oscar.

The interior of the villa was extremely luxurious, but it lacked any signs of being lived in.

Pearl didn't care about that. Seeing no one downstairs, she headed upstairs. "Oscar, come out! Don't think hiding will stop me from holding you accountable!"

"Having people follow me has already affected my life. What's the point? Is it so hard for us to just go our separate ways?"

"If you have someone follow me again, I'll call the police!"

On the second floor, she saw a door slightly ajar. 'Oscar must be inside.'

Pearl rolled up her sleeves, her face cold, and pushed the door open. "Oscar, can't you be a bit more straightforward?"

She stood at the door, her eyes fixed on Oscar lying on the floor.

He lay there in a state of disarray, surrounded by empty bottles, holding a half-finished bottle of liquor.

It looked like he had been drinking all day.

Pearl was initially furious and had planned how to confront him.

She had planned to say some harsh words, to crush his pride completely.

But the situation was different from what she had imagined.

Seeing the drunken man, Pearl found herself at a loss for words.

He couldn't hear her anyway.

She couldn't understand why Oscar had drunk so much. 'Wasn't he with Haley now? Hadn't he gotten rid of me?'

He had humiliated Pearl, boosting his ego. He should be happy. Why was he so sad?

This was a side of him she had never seen.

Oscar suddenly revealed his helplessness, frustration, and pain.

Pearl couldn't help but clench her fists, feeling a sudden complexity in her heart. She decided not to argue with him and chose to leave the room.

Just as she turned, she heard a faint voice.

"Pearl." Oscar's voice was hoarse and low.

Pearl frowned, not intending to turn back.

"Pearl." She was about to leave, but he kept calling her, which made Pearl feel conflicted.

She turned to look at him.

At that moment, Oscar was lying on his side, seemingly awake, his eyes blurry, his hand reaching out as if desperately wanting to grab her.

Pearl's emotions became complicated.

She walked back over to him.

"Am I dreaming?" Oscar looked at her approaching, a bitter smile on his lips. "Why are you here?"

"Why do you think it's a dream? Do you really want to see me?" Pearl knelt down, her tone cold as she asked, "Why did you drink so much?"

Oscar seemed not to hear her, pulling her into an embrace.

Pearl instinctively tried to struggle, but Oscar held her tightly.

"Oscar, let go of me!" Pearl became agitated. "I came to tell you to stop having people follow me. We have nothing to do with each other anymore!"

After she spoke, she felt something wet on her body.

Tears had fallen into Pearl's hand, which were warm but seemingly even hotter in her hand.

This made Pearl freeze, unsure of what to do. She couldn't believe it—were these tears?

She reached out to touch Oscar's face and found his eyes were wet.

Oscar buried his head in her lap, his voice hoarse and low, but clear. "Pearl, it doesn't matter if the child isn't mine. That hasn't mattered for a long time. I don't care whose child it is. I only care about you. As long as you're happy, that's enough. Now I care a little more. I want you to live, to live healthily!"

Pearl stood there, listening to Oscar's words, and kept her eyes wide open.

For some reason, her heart ached.

'What was he talking about? Had I heard wrong?'

Pearl couldn't believe Oscar would say such things when drunk.

'He didn't care whose child it was; he only cared about me. Then why did he divorce me?'

To live healthily?

Pearl's hands fell to her sides, and she sank to the floor, her eyes starting to fill with tears.
