Chapter 361 What Will I Become
Jeffery's face got serious. "What's going on?"
He thought Oscar had the antidote. 'If he woke up after being poisoned, Kevin must've given it to him. So why these symptoms?'
"I'm not sure," Oscar said. He thought he'd be fine, but after a few hours, his body reacted badly. "Maybe Kevin didn't give me the real antidote."
Kevin was sneaky; he might've given a fake antidote.
Jeffery helped him sit down, whose situation had made Jeffery's work more difficult."Your poison's different from Pearl's." Based on Oscar's symptoms, Jeffery guessed that.
Oscar wasn't in great pain, just uncomfortable. Maybe the poison hadn't spread or wasn't lethal.
The pain came and went. Oscar could handle it but wanted to know his fate. "If there's no antidote, what happens to me?"
Jeffery stayed serious.
He'd seen many poisons; some were deadly, some caused suffering.
Pearl's poison was slow but lethal, causing skin ulcers and death.
Oscar's poison seemed non-lethal but needed more study.
"Let's draw some blood," Jeffery said.
"Okay."
Oscar followed him.
Jeffery was busy; he had to study the lab reagents and figure out Oscar's poison.
After drawing blood, Jeffery told him, "Prepare for the worst, but don't lose hope. I'll find a solution."
Oscar had to trust him.
Only Jeffery had dealt with The Crimson Eclipse Society and studied these poisons.
Oscar was worried but knew he had to prepare for the worst.
He just wanted Pearl to survive. As for him, there would always be a solution as long as he was alive.
He patted Jeffery's shoulder. "If something happens to me, take care of Pearl."
Jeffery looked into Oscar's sincere eyes, feeling the weight of responsibility.
Jeffery found it incredible.
He never thought he'd work with the military, achieving such a tough collaboration, considering he was from The Crimson Eclipse Society.
Jeffery's conviction grew; he was also crucial to Pearl. "I won't let anything happen to you and Pearl."
Oscar said, "You've already done so much for Pearl."
"The poison you and Pearl have is different; I won't use the same method."
"That's good."
Pearl had been waiting in the lounge for a while.
She was bored.
Thinking about her capture and all the twists, she hadn't seen Eileen, so she called her.
Eileen was resting but happy to get Pearl's call. She sat up. "Where are you? Are you hurt?"
"I'm at the police station. How are you?" Pearl asked.
"Just minor scrapes, I'm okay. Knowing you're safe is a relief. After this, no one should harm you again." Eileen was a public figure, but she hadn't never experienced this kind of thrilling kidnapping.
"Hopefully, but I feel bad for dragging you into this."
"We're friends, and the kidnapping wasn't your fault. You've worried about me a lot. I never say polite stuff, but you do. Are we not friends anymore?"
Eileen laughed. "You probably haven't seen it yet, but our show is a huge hit!"
Pearl was surprised. "Really?"
Eileen said, "The ratings are the highest in web series history. Check it out when you can. And more good news: 'Echoes of the Enchanted Realm' is getting trashed online. People say the later episodes are terrible, and the ratings are dropping. We won!"
"That's great," Pearl said. "We expected this."
She always had hope for their show.
Even if it didn't gain traction initially, she believed it would succeed.
Even if the audience acceptance wasn't strong, breaking even would be good enough.
It was a learning experience in the film and TV industry.
It showed their innovation worked.
As for 'Echoes of the Enchanted Realm,' the cost was high, and it took time to be exquisite in filming, editing, and special effects. How could it be released so quickly? It turned out the team wasn't serious enough in post-production.
Haley was willing to do anything to compete.
In the end, she ruined her own career.
She deserved it.
Pearl didn't deny Haley's abilities, but she was too competitive and failed.
Pearl chatted with Eileen for a while before hanging up.
She saw Oscar walking in.
As soon as Oscar came in, his serious face softened, full of tenderness. "Have you been waiting long?"
Pearl stood up. "Not too long. Are you done?"
"Yes," Oscar said. "Let's go home."
He took her hand.
Pearl didn't resist. "Okay."
The driver had already opened the car door. Oscar helped her in first, then got in, and they headed to the nearest villa.
It was Pearl's first time at this villa. It wasn't as luxurious as she imagined, but the security was impressive. High walls with electric wires ensured nothing could get through.
Once inside, Oscar relaxed. He pulled Pearl into a tight embrace, burying his head in her hair. "I missed you so much," he whispered.
Pearl, enveloped in his embrace, listened to his soft words. Any resentment she had seemed to disappear.
She used to think Oscar was always aloof, never lowering his head for anything, even though they were married. His care for her never felt as close as it did now, bringing her nearer to his vulnerability and inner self.
Pearl ruffled his hair, speaking softly, "It's all over now. Everything will get better."
Even though she knew her poison wasn't cured, she still held hope for the future.
Oscar, holding her, felt a strong sense of security and motivation. "Jeffery will have news. I'll find a cure for your poison."
Pearl gave him her utmost support. "I believe in you."
Oscar's warm hand touched her swollen belly. "Is the baby okay? Has he been causing you any discomfort?"
