Chapter 150 It Doesn't Mean You Can Replace Pearl Harris
Oscar hadn't said anything yet when Kittie hung up the phone.
The busy signal echoed in Oscar's heart, and his face instantly turned grim as he clutched the phone.
Pearl walked in and saw Oscar like this, holding her phone.
Pearl felt a surge of anxiety.
Nowadays, hospitals use mobile phones for registration.
Did Oscar see her registration and payment records?
Under the cold, sharp gaze of Oscar, Pearl felt unsure how to confront him. Suddenly, Oscar's voice cut through the tension, icy and direct. "Pearl, did you tell your mom we're getting a divorce?"
Pearl had been very nervous, but she breathed a sigh of relief after Oscar asked this question.
She pursed her lips and said, "Isn't it normal to talk about life with parents?"
Pearl hadn't expected Oscar to actually answer her call, but she had already disclosed the divorce to him, so it wasn't a secret. She had nothing to fear. What Pearl was worried about now was Oscar discovering her pregnancy and not letting her go, or not allowing her to keep the child.
Oscar's lips curled into a cold smile. "Is it normal to talk about this without my consent? Pearl, I simply don't understand what you're thinking!" Oscar was very angry.
When Pearl was exposed online and detained, Oscar had Halley prepare a car to take him to the police station immediately. And how about her?
Pearl lowered her head. "I wasn't thinking of anything in particular. I just believe that when our contract expires, we should end this marriage of convenience. Oscar, if you don't want a divorce just because I brought it up, waiting a while and initiating it yourself would yield the same outcome."
It meant that Pearl didn't want to discuss it further.
Seeing Pearl's attitude, Oscar felt like it was useless to say anything.
"Take your phone and go back to Serenity Haven Estates." With that, he threw the phone on the table.
Pearl picked it up without saying anything and left the CEO's office.
After Pearl left, it was time for a meal. Sarah brought in the ordered food and placed it in front of Oscar. According to Pearl's notes, Oscar didn't like cilantro, but the steamed bass dish had it. Sarah immediately apologized to Oscar. "Mr. Brown, I'm sorry. I forgot to tell the restaurant about your preferences. I wanted to change things up for you, but I made a mistake."
"Mr. Brown, I can give you my portion." Sarah quickly opened her portion and handed it to Oscar, even suggesting, "I saw Pearl giving you a head massage. After you eat, I can do it for you too. You can take a bath afterward. If any clients visit, I'll call you if it's important. If it's not..."
Oscar sneered. "What if it's not important? Don't see them?"
Sarah lowered her head. "Mr. Brown, I was thinking you've been too tired lately and need more rest."
Sarah sensed the coldness in Oscar's smile.
Oscar's smile remained. "Sarah, I recognize your abilities, but that doesn't mean you can replace Pearl. You've thought of so much; are you fantasizing about becoming Mrs. Brown?"
One sentence scared Sarah into immediate explanation. "No, Mr. Brown, I've never had such thoughts. Pearl hired me and explained everything to me from the start. Everything I do is for you, Mr. Brown. I have no other intentions but to serve you professionally and respectfully."
Oscar had no interest in listening to Sarah's nonsense. He had only one point to express. "You can never replace Pearl, and don't even think about it!"
"Thank you for your guidance, Mr. Brown. I'll call the restaurant right away to have them send a new meal," Sarah said, still not daring to look Oscar in the eye.
Oscar coldly replied, "No need!"
With that, he got up and left Sarah behind.
Even after Oscar left the office, Sarah still felt a bit scared. Oscar thought she was overstepping her bounds, trying to take Pearl's place, but Pearl was the one who hired her to fill in for her position.
Given Oscar's attitude, he could fire her at any moment.
What she had joined was the Brown Group. If Oscar fired her, no other company would want her once they saw her resume.
Moreover, she was dealing with the top business tycoon in Willow Creek, the boss of the Brown family!
Thinking about this, Sarah became even more determined. She had to stay!
Pearl did not go back to Serenity Haven Estates as Oscar had instructed.
Instead, she went to her parents' house.
Kittie and Evans had always known that Pearl and Oscar's marriage was contractual, and Kittie knew about Pearl's intention to divorce Oscar. But when Oscar visited their home and attended Arthur's funeral with Pearl last time, Kittie never mentioned the divorce. Now that Kittie had called, Pearl felt something was wrong.
When Pearl got home, she saw Kittie and Evans sitting on the couch, looking particularly serious.
Evans immediately said, "I'm glad you're back. From now on, don't go back to Oscar's house. Just submit the divorce papers. If he doesn't sign, take it to court!"
When Hathaway came over, Evans wasn't home. If he had been, he would have given Hathaway a piece of his mind.
The Harris family might not be as wealthy as the Brown family, but they wouldn't be mocked by them either!
Hathaway had even come to their house to demand a divorce. However, this marriage wasn't something Pearl had begged for. If Oscar hadn't agreed, they wouldn't be married!
Pearl was a bit confused. "Dad, Mom, what happened?"
The change in Kittie and Evans' attitude was drastic.
Kittie said angrily, "It's because Hathaway came to our home, saying that if we don't make sure you divorce Oscar, she'll cause trouble for our whole family! You've already told me you want a divorce, and she still has the nerve to say that!"
The more Kittie spoke, the angrier she got. She had never met anyone like Hathaway.
Only now did Pearl understand why Kittie had mentioned the divorce to Oscar. If it had been her, she might have been even angrier!
Pearl could only say, "Oscar and I are currently negotiating."
"I think, given Hathaway's personality, if you don't divorce Oscar, she'll definitely cause more trouble. We should leave here ," Evans said. He wasn't afraid of trouble, but he didn't want Pearl to be bullied or wronged.
