Chapter 394 The Only Thing He Can't Let Go of Is You
Pearl's eyes followed the direction.
"Someone's coming."
Barbara went to open the door, but it was Harold who walked in.
Pearl had expected Oscar, and her face fell.
It was just Harold. She glanced outside but saw no one else.
Harold carried a folder, piquing Pearl's curiosity.
"Ms. Harris," Harold nodded at Pearl.
Pearl, puzzled by his visit, set aside her negative thoughts and asked coolly, "Why are you here? Where's Oscar? Did he send you? What does he want now?"
Her tone was impatient. Harold knew the rift between her and Oscar wasn't easily fixed.
Harold pulled out a document from the folder. "Mr. Brown sent me to have you sign this."
Pearl sneered, "Sign what? The divorce papers are already signed. What else could there be?"
She was confused. Maybe they still had some marital ties. Oscar had mentioned they signed the divorce agreement but didn't get the certificate. Legally, they were still married. Even if divorced, there shouldn't be anything left to sign.
"It's a property and equity transfer document," Harold said, handing it to her.
Pearl was stunned, thinking she misheard. She looked at Harold, then at the document. There were several pages. A quick glance showed all of Oscar's assets were being transferred to her.
This baffled Pearl. During the divorce, she only got a villa and a few million dollars. Why was Oscar giving her everything now? Was he planning to leave with nothing? This was unlike him and made her uneasy.
It didn't seem real. She picked up the document and flipped through it. The more she read, the more absurd it seemed.
Pearl looked at Harold again, "What does this mean? Why is he transferring everything to me? What about him?"
Harold replied, "This is Mr. Brown's way of compensating you."
Pearl's face darkened, "Do I need his compensation? Does he think giving me everything is enough? Can it bring back the child? Where is he? Tell him to come see me!"
She didn't understand. His actions made her uneasy, like he was giving up everything to face death.
Harold said, "Even if you don't sign, these are still yours. Mr. Brown has already notarized it. Everything he owns is yours."
Pearl frowned, "Where is he?"
Harold stayed silent.
Pearl felt disrespected by Oscar, "Did he ask for my opinion before signing this? Does he think he's being noble? That I would be moved?"
"Mr. Brown didn't mean that," Harold said, feeling cornered by her questions.
Pearl asked again, "Where is he?"
Harold said, "I'm not sure."
"You're not sure? How can you not be sure?" Pearl snapped, "Are you joking with me?"
Harold remained silent.
Pearl closed the document and threw it back at him, "Take it back. I don't need his things. If he truly felt guilty, he wouldn't just give me his assets. He should think about how to be a good husband or a good father."
Harold didn't push, "I'll take the document back, but it's already legally binding."
Pearl frowned deeper, "Where's Oscar? Why didn't he come himself and sent you instead?"
She asked three times, but Harold stayed silent.
"Do you think I'll stop being suspicious if you don't tell me?" Pearl pressed.
Barbara knew the truth would come out eventually. Better now than later.
"Oscar has left."
Pearl looked at Barbara, seeing her serious expression, "Where did he go?"
Barbara replied, "He went to Eldorians."
"What?" Pearl was shocked, "Why did he go there? Is it to get the antidote again?"
"No," Barbara shook her head. Seeing Pearl's confusion, she continued, "Pearl, haven't you noticed your health has improved a lot?"
Pearl was taken aback. She had noticed but didn't think much of it since it had been so long and there was still no news of the antidote.
She looked at her arm; the bruises were gone. Her body was indeed much better. The doctor had said giving birth would drain all her energy, and she was supposed to die after giving birth. But she lived. There was only one possibility: her poison had been cured.
"Is my poison cured?" Pearl asked.
"Yes," Barbara confirmed.
Pearl asked, "Was it Jeffery's antidote?"
"No."
Pearl pursed her lips, "Then Oscar found the antidote."
"Yes."
Pearl didn't know what to think. Oscar could get the antidote for her, but he couldn't save their child. It felt like a cruel joke.
Pearl was silent, but sadness welled up inside her.
"Oscar went through a lot to get the antidote. Now he's gone to Eldorians, and we don't know what will happen next," Barbara's expression turned serious.
Putting aside the rift between Pearl and Oscar, Barbara found Oscar's actions moving.
Pearl lowered her head, her eyelashes trembling, and said calmly, "You mean, he might be going to his death, right?"
Barbara didn't respond.
Pearl frowned even more, "Why? Why does he have to go? Is it his job?"
She suddenly didn't understand whether his return to the military was good or bad.
Barbara said, "Maybe he wants to bring Adrian back."
Pearl looked at her again.
"You owe Adrian a life, and he wants to help you get him back. It's something he can do."
Pearl's face turned grim, remembering the hurtful things she had said before. She had said everything. Oscar had taken it to heart. She did resent him for the child. But the child's death wasn't entirely his fault. She just needed a vent, and Oscar happened to be it.
"I owe Adrian, why does he have to repay it for me? Why does he always make decisions for me!" Pearl became emotional, clenching her fists, "How long has he been gone?"
"A few days."
"Can you contact him?"
Barbara hesitated, "Oscar said before he left that he wouldn't be in contact with the family."
Pearl looked at Harold again, "He gave me all his assets, leaving with nothing. Is he preparing for the worst?"
Harold said frankly, "Mr. Brown's only concern is you. He just wants to give you everything he has."
