Chapter 335 Detection of Toxins

Oscar suddenly burst in, seeing Pearl lying still on the bed, filled with anxiety.

He rushed over and held her in his arms.

Pearl didn't react at all at the moment.

Too worried, Oscar didn't notice she was just having a check-up and said, "I'm sorry."

Those simple words carried a lot of emotions.

Pearl, surprised, pushed against his chest and asked, "What are you doing?"

Oscar's eyes were bloodshot, and he looked a bit dazed.

Seeing his disheveled appearance, Pearl was shocked; he seemed different from the Oscar she knew.

"Are you okay?" Oscar scanned her, realizing she wasn't seriously ill, and sighed in relief.

"I'm fine," Pearl said calmly, looking down. "Just a check-up."

Oscar looked around and realized it was a place for tests.

He stood up and said, "Sorry."

"It's okay," Pearl responded.

Oscar waited outside, still watching Pearl during her check-up.

He was worried about her.

Seeing her in pain hurt him too.

He had to wait.

Soon, he would get the antidote.

"Just as I thought, you and Pearl aren't at a desperate point yet," Janetta said, seeing Oscar's red eyes and knowing he still loved Pearl.

Oscar turned to Janetta, hiding his emotions. "How did you notice?"

"Your divorce was too sudden. Pearl must have realized it too. What's wrong with her?" Janetta asked worriedly.

Oscar said, "She'll be fine. The poison can be cured."

"Poison? Did Haley do it?" Janetta guessed. "Did she threaten you with Pearl?"

Oscar said, "It's a long story. Haley might not have the antidote. Only by getting close to her is there a glimmer of hope."

Haley could get the RavenWing's poison, but she might not have the antidote.

Still,Haley was the only hope.

Janetta didn't expect this.

It was too complicated.

At this moment, Pearl finished her tests.

When she came out, she saw Janetta. "Janetta?"

Janetta smiled. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming to the hospital? I was so worried. Is the baby okay?"

Pearl looked at her, then at Oscar. "I haven't got the results yet."

"You guys talk, I need to buy something," Janetta said.

"Okay."

Oscar and Pearl met like this.

Pearl was thin, with a protruding belly.

Oscar hadn't shaved for days, looking more mature. His eyes were fixed on Pearl. "Even if we're not a couple, we can still greet each other as friends, right?"

Pearl had to respond, "Sure, friends."

Oscar said, "I'll wait with you for the results."

"Okay."

Their conversation was brief.

Pearl walked ahead, with Oscar following. Being pregnant was hard, he wanted to support her, but he had to harden his heart. His hand reached out, paused a second, clenched into a fist and then straightened down.

While waiting for the result, Oscar's phone rang.

Pearl glanced at the ID; it was Haley.

Oscar didn't want to answer.

Seeing his phone ringing non-stop, Pearl said, "Answer it. If Haley can't find you, she'll call again!"

Oscar didn't answer but sent a message instead, silencing his phone. Haley's calls stopped.

After a long wait, Pearl got sleepy and started nodding off. Oscar saw her dozing off, exhausted from the wait. He sat beside her, letting her head rest on him. Pearl seemed more comfortable, leaning on Oscar.

Oscar gazed at her peaceful profile, sensing the peace of the moment, wishing time would stop.

Not sure how long had passed, many people came and went in the hospital. Only Oscar stayed in the same position.

"Ms. Harris," the doctor called out from the lab.

Pearl woke up instantly, standing up. "Here!"

She didn't notice Oscar beside her, too eager to know if her condition would affect the baby.

The doctor's serious expression made Pearl nervous.

"Through the tests, we found your body functions are slowly deteriorating," the doctor said.

Pearl was stunned, feelling painful by the doctor's words. Was her illness now showing symptoms?

Her previous tests were fine, but now her skin showed bruises, indicating her body functions were declining.

Before she could ask, Oscar started, "She's been poisoned with a rare toxin. Without an antidote, how long can she last? How can we delay it?"

"We found a rare toxin in Ms. Harris's body, one we've never encountered before. It's strange; the toxin had no previous reactions," the doctor explained. "Ms. Harris's body functions are declining, and her pregnancy might accelerate the toxin's spread. If the poison isn't cured, she might only last until the baby is born."

The doctor hesitated, then turned to Oscar. "Mr. Brown, please come to my office."

Oscar's face was solemn as he followed the doctor into the office.

Pearl stayed at the door, her palms sweating, not knowing what they were discussing.

She only heard she could last until the baby was born. Does that mean the baby wasn't affected by her?

She breathed a sigh of relief but also felt a surge of tension. So she only had a few months to live.

In these few months, she needed to make all the necessary arrangements.

Pearl thought about how to protect her child and who would raise the child in the future. She knew her parents would take the child, but they were too old.

'What about Oscar?' she wondered. If he married Haley, he wouldn't treat her child well.

This left Pearl in a dilemma. She would leave a sum of money so her child wouldn't worry about livelihood.

Lost in thoughts about her afterlife arrangements, the door suddenly burst open.

Oscar's face was cold as he quickly walked over and grabbed her hand.

"What are you doing? What did the doctor say?" Pearl asked.

Oscar remained silent, pulling her in another direction.

"Oscar, speak up! What did the doctor say? Didn't you hear? I can last until the baby is born. I still have a way!" Pearl shouted.

Oscar looked at her coldly. "You need to terminate the pregnancy."
