Chapter 214 The Interview

After a few seconds, Pearl looked up at Harper and asked, "You want me to interview the CEO of the Brown Group?"

Harper clasped his hands, stood up, and replied casually, "Yeah, any problem? Not just anyone can interview Oscar. You're the best fit."

Pearl closed the file. "My resume clearly states I came from the Brown Group. Are you asking me to go back?"

She had left the Brown Group without a word when she joined the TV station.

Considering the intense conflict between her and Oscar, returning would be a humiliating experience.

It would validate Oscar's belief that she would eventually regret leaving.

Harper, unaware of her history with Oscar, said, "Because you came from the Brown Group and have connections, this task is yours."

Pearl placed the file on the table. "Harper, I refuse."

Even under a different identity, she wouldn't go back.

She was determined to sever all ties with Oscar.

Most importantly, Oscar wouldn't treat her kindly, making it a significant challenge.

Harper said, "Didn't I just say? You need to step out of your comfort zone. Interviewing Oscar is tough. I've assigned it to others, but Oscar ignored them. Since it's your former company, you should succeed, right?"

This task had been delayed and hadn't progressed smoothly. Pearl's arrival was timely.

"If you accomplish this, it will showcase your capabilities. Subsequent tasks will be smoother, and I'll prioritize you." Harper gazed at Pearl. "You left the Brown Group for the TV station, demonstrating your drive to prove yourself. I'm offering you this opportunity now. Isn't that appealing?"

Pearl searched for a way out. "Have you considered that I may have departed due to conflicts at the Brown Group?"

Harper responded, "I'm solely focused on outcomes. This is a challenge for you as well!"

With that, Harper headed back to her office.

Having observed Pearl for several days, Harper had carefully weighed her decision before approaching her with this opportunity.

Failure was not an option anymore.

Even if Oscar didn't accept the interview, Pearl had to challenge herself and successfully interview him.

Pearl watched Harper leave, realizing she had no choice but to accept.

Pearl felt troubled; this was more difficult and exhausting than working at the Brown Group.

Pearl felt embarrassed.

Her mind was in turmoil. Having to interact with Oscar again for work was something she had never considered.

She thought coming to the TV station would allow her to do what she loved more.

Yet she couldn't escape Oscar.

Pearl thought for a long time, the file still lying on the table, detailing the exclusive interview with Oscar.

Not only an interview, but the last few pages of the file also mentioned a documentary.

Pearl recalled that Oscar seldom made public appearances. Even for projects associated with the Brown Group, he avoided solo interactions.

The necessary occasions were just once or twice.

For someone like Oscar to reveal his true thoughts, an interview was already difficult, let alone a documentary, which seemed impossible.

Oscar wouldn't agree.

Suddenly, Pearl felt frustrated.

The file on the table fell to the ground, interrupting Pearl's contemplation.

Pearl looked up and saw Chloe passing by with a cup.

Just then, the documents scattered all over the floor.

Chloe squatted down, her expression changing as she saw the large words "Interview with Oscar" on top of the papers. "Harper asked you to interview Oscar Brown?"

Pearl had only been at the TV station for a few days, but she had already remembered her colleagues' names, though she hadn't interacted with all of them.

For instance, she had never spoken to Chloe before.

"That's right." Pearl picked up the documents.

Chloe, however, was displeased. "Why would Harper give you such a task? You've only been here a short while. Why do you think you're capable?"

Pearl detected the sarcasm in Chloe's words. "I also think I might not be up to the task." She had seen this kind of situation many times before and thought this task might be a good opportunity. She looked at Chloe and asked, "Do you want to go?"

Chloe didn't answer her.

Proudly, she snorted, as if speaking another word to Pearl would lower her status, and turned to head to Harper's office.

Pearl didn't mind Chloe's arrogance. If she took on the task and Harper agreed, that would be the best outcome.

Although the competition at the TV station was fierce, many people worked for a decade without seeing any advancement. Pearl had seen big scenes before, and the interview with Oscar might not necessarily be her opportunity.

Pearl also knew that Harper assigned her the task not because of her abilities but because she had come from Oscar's side, giving her a better chance to secure the interview.

"Pearl, Chloe is just like that, very proud, always thinking she's the best. Don't let it affect you," her colleague Emma said, who sat next to her.

Emma was young, having been at the TV station for less than a year. She graduated with a degree in journalism but had limited experience, mostly writing texts.

However, Emma was a sweet girl, quite simple. Pearl put away the documents, sat down, and said, "It's okay. I've dealt with people like this before. I know what they're like."

The more competitive the environment, the more you had to fight for opportunities.

Especially at a TV station, where everyone would compete for a good chance.

Emma rolled her chair over, not quite understanding. "Why don't you take it? Are you going to let Chloe steal your job? If you manage to interview Oscar, you could work at the TV station as proudly as Chloe, without having to endure her. She always snatches the good opportunities!"

Pearl sensed the resentment in her tone. "I was quite happy, but anything related to Oscar is better left alone."

"Then mark my words, she will definitely steal it!" Emma already knew the outcome. Whether Pearl fought for it or not, Chloe would surely snatch the good job.

This was a necessary condition for Chloe's success.

Sure enough, within ten minutes, Chloe emerged triumphantly from the office.

"Pearl, give me the documents for the interview with Oscar!" Chloe commanded.

Emma whispered, "See, I told you she would take it."

Pearl felt relieved to be rid of a hassle and said directly, "It's all here. You can take it all."

Chloe gave Pearl a cold look, noticing that she wasn't bothered by it.

Anyone else would have been resentful but had to endure it, given Chloe's capabilities. Chloe emphasized, "Harper has already given me the interview. I'll complete it within three days. You don't need to worry about it. Just continue being an editor here!"
