Chapter 958 New Research Project

Clara's eyes lit up the moment she saw her grandmother at the hospital room door. "Grandma! I thought you were out of town. When did you get back?"

"Oh, my dear Clara!" Her grandmother hurried to her bedside, gently caressing Clara's cheek. "Look at you, how did you get so thin? Hasn't anyone been taking good care of you?"

She shot a sharp look at Tobias Ross, who stood awkwardly nearby.

Tobias could only offer a sheepish smile. "I'm sorry, Clara. I've been so busy with work..."

Clara clenched her fists.

She wasn't the naive girl she used to be. No job should be more important than your own daughter. It was just an excuse.

Lyra was right; those who didn't care about her weren't worth her attention.

Ignoring Tobias, Clara took her grandmother Yasmin Ross's hand and walked over to Lyra. "Grandma, Dr. Cole has been taking great care of me."

"Whenever I needed something, she personally brought it to me."

Yasmin held Lyra's hand, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Yes, yes, I'm very thankful to Dr. Cole. Thanks to you, my precious granddaughter is doing well."

Lyra smiled warmly at the touching scene.

She could see how uncomfortable Tobias was, but she had no intention of acknowledging him. They had brought this upon themselves.

Yasmin then inquired about Clara's health.

Lyra, understanding the situation, said, "Yasmin, you're wondering when Clara can be discharged, right?"

Yasmin smiled. "You can't hide anything from you, Dr. Cole. I want to take her home. This hospital is too far from home, and you know how those two are."

"I can't keep an eye on her here. Rely on them to help? Not a chance. So I think it's best to take her home."

Lyra nodded in agreement. "That's fine. Clara has recovered quite a bit over the past few days. She just needs to avoid strenuous activities for now, but otherwise, she's good to go."

Lyra also hoped Clara could spend more time with people who genuinely loved her.

At nineteen, Clara was just starting in life. She would face many challenges ahead, and it was crucial to have a strong support system.

Lyra had never believed Tobias and Delilah could provide that, and she often worried about Clara's future.

But now, with Yasmin around, she felt reassured.

Yasmin arranged for Clara's discharge that very day, preparing to take her home.

As they were leaving, Clara seemed reluctant, but her pride kept her from showing it.

Lyra saw through her hesitation and said gently, "We'll have plenty of chances to see each other again. Don't worry."

"Okay," Clara nodded softly.

Lyra watched as Clara got into the car, the door slowly closing. Just as she was about to turn away, Clara suddenly pushed the door open and ran back to her, throwing herself into Lyra's arms.

Lyra was taken aback.

Clara hugged her tightly, her voice barely a whisper. "Lyra, I'll never forget you."

Lyra's heart melted. She gently stroked Clara's hair and sighed softly.

Clara was just starved for love.

Her obsession with Jeffery largely stemmed from her incomplete family.

She hoped things would get better from now on.

After seeing Clara off, Lyra returned to her work, feeling a weight lifted off her shoulders.

"You sent that girl away? I thought you might adopt her," Mia teased, causing Lyra to choke on her water and cough violently.

"What nonsense! She's an adult. How could I adopt her?"

Adopting an adult? Not only was it impractical, but Clara might not even agree. Besides, they had once been rivals in love. It was absurd.

Lyra rubbed her arms, feeling goosebumps from Mia's wild imagination.

Mia, unfazed, leaned lazily against Lyra's desk, sipping her water. "I heard you took on a research project?"

Lyra glanced at her. "You sure have your sources."

"Of course, you know who I am!" Mia said proudly. "Now, spill the details."

Lyra sighed. "It's true, but nothing's finalized yet. They said I'd be going to headquarters for an assessment, but I haven't received any official notice."

"I don't know when it'll be confirmed," she added with a sigh.

Lyra had handled similar projects before, but this one was special.

When she first saw the project proposal, she was blown away and had been eagerly waiting for news ever since. But she didn't want to bother Jeffery with it—he was too busy for such trivial matters.

"Who said it's not confirmed? It's been decided!" Mia clapped her hands, her voice rising with excitement. "You've been busy with that girl, so no one had the chance to tell you."

Lyra's eyes lit up. "When did this happen?"

Mia thought for a moment. "Just in the past couple of days. The hospital's already preparing. I heard it involves traveling abroad! Hey, can you ask Mr. Gary if I can tag along?"

Lyra hesitated, not giving a direct answer. "I need to confirm the details first."

She then hurried to the director's office, practically running. When she burst in, she was still catching her breath.

The man inside looked up from his paperwork, recognizing her excitement. "I take it you've heard?"

Lyra nodded eagerly, catching her breath before asking, "So, it's true?"

"Yes, sit down, and I'll explain," Jeffery said, getting a cup of warm water for her.

Jeffery's attentiveness was evident in every little gesture.

Lyra thanked him, the warm water calming her nerves, though her eyes still sparkled with anticipation.

Jeffery couldn't help but smile at her eager expression. "You really want to go, don't you?"

Lyra nodded like a bobblehead. "Yes! Mr. Gray, when do we leave?"

"The trip is scheduled for two days from now, but since it's international, we need to leave by tomorrow night at the latest," Jeffery explained. "I was planning to discuss it with you."

Lyra's excitement was palpable.
