Chapter 480 Mrs. Brown
Pearl asked Barbara to leave.
She calmly said, "Why does Barbara know, but you don't? Jeffery, are you still trying to deceive me?"
Her sharp, cold eyes locked onto Jeffery.
Jeffery's voice was calm. "Pearl, I'd never deceive you. I recognized you but didn't tell anyone because you became Pearl and know nothing about your past. I couldn't drag you into this. Once I realized you were RavenWing's daughter, I knew Eldorians wasn't the place for you."
Eldorians was in chaos, with Kevin trying to surpass RavenWing by developing more controlling poisons and plotting to seize power.
RavenWing wanted Eldorians to grow stronger.
Pearl had a kind heart and a stable life. If Jeffery had told her, she might not have been able to handle it.
He thought it was better not to let her know about the past since she was married and about to have children.
"Jeffery, what are you thinking?"
Pearl noticed Jeffery's distraction. She frowned and stepped closer to him.
Jeffery took a deep breath and continued, "I was thinking about when I met you. Pearl, I want the best for you. If I knew where the child was, I'd have told you. My agreement with Oscar was to detoxify you."
Pearl pressed her lips together, but before she could speak, Jeffery added, "Pearl, beyond that, I know nothing."
Barbara felt guilty. "Pearl, I'm sorry I couldn't help you."
What else could Pearl say?
Barbara, the only one who knew, didn't know the child's whereabouts. There was no news of Oscar. Barbara and Adrian had survived.
Louis and RavenWing hadn't given up on her. Oscar's body was never found. What was she still doing here?
Pearl could only return to Willow Creek with sadness and longing for Oscar.
She had to go back, and Nicholas and Elijah would escort her. Even Barbara and Jeffery stayed by her side. But Pearl didn't expect to see Adrian walking towards her with a ticket after she checked in and boarded the plane.
Pearl was stunned. "Adrian, weren't you going to stay?"
Adrian gave Jeffery a look, and Jeffery vacated his seat. Adrian sat down, holding only a ticket.
Leaning back, Adrian said, "After you left, I felt empty. I realized I stayed in Eldorians because of you. Now that you're going back to Willow Creek, I'll go with you. Maybe I can regain my memory like Barbara did."
Barbara had regained her memory due to a shock, and Adrian had consulted Jeffery about it. Jeffery said shocks could be effective, but it varied from person to person.
Some people regain their memory after a shock, while others might remember when they see familiar things.
He had seen Pearl and tried to shock himself, but it didn't work. So he was in the latter group Jeffery mentioned, those who might never retrieve their lost memories.
But he was sure of one thing: only by staying with Pearl could he feel less uneasy.
"Then let's head back to Willow Creek together."
On the plane, Pearl had a dream about RavenWing and Louis.
She was in a fancy room, and RavenWing laid out a bunch of jewels in front of her.
He smiled, almost trying to butter her up. "Pearl, these are all for you. I can make sure you're set for life. If that's not enough, how about I make you the queen of Eldorians?"
Louis chimed in, "Pearl, if you don't want Eldorians' men, I can find guys from other countries for you. If you want kids, I can arrange that too."
These words jolted Pearl awake.
She was drenched in sweat, which immediately caught Jeffery's attention.
He was about to hand her a tissue, but Adrian beat him to it.
"Thanks." Pearl took the tissue and leaned back, trying to calm down.
She'd been having these dreams a lot, waking up sweaty and exhausted each time.
Jeffery handed her a bottle of water. "Drink some water. Once we land, I'll prescribe some medicine for you."
Pearl didn't say anything, feeling a heavy weight on her chest.
She had been feeling drained lately.
But she had a lot to do once she got back to Willow Creek.
She looked out the window, unable to fall back asleep.
After a long flight, Harold and the Egan family were there to pick her up.
When they saw Adrian, they hugged him, crying their eyes out.
Pearl waited a bit, then walked over to Adrian. "If you need anything, let me know. I'm heading home. Make sure to get a thorough check-up here."
She was still worried about Adrian's health.
Adrian nodded, and they went their separate ways.
Harold took Pearl home and had the servants show Barbara and Jeffery to the guest rooms.
Pearl went to her bedroom, and the familiar decor brought back memories of Oscar.
It felt like an invisible hand was choking her, making it hard to breathe and causing her heart to ache.
She was overwhelmed by memories and sadness.
Just as she was about to break down, there was a knock on the door.
Harold's voice came from outside, "Ms. Harris, I had the servants make you a bowl of pasta. I brought it up for you. Please have some."
Harold was so considerate that Pearl couldn't refuse.
She opened the door, and Harold immediately noticed her swollen eyes.
As an observer, Harold had seen the changes in the relationship between Pearl and Oscar most clearly.
Now that Oscar was gone, even Harold felt bad, let alone Pearl, who loved Oscar so deeply.
Harold pressed his lips together and said in a hoarse voice, "Ms. Harris, you've been gone for so long. During this time, I've been managing the Brown Group. Do you think I could take a leave?"
Although it wasn't the best time to bring this up, once people got busy, they wouldn't have time to think too much.
This way, Pearl wouldn't think about Oscar as much.
"Of course, you can take a leave, but I'm not in charge of the Brown Group," Pearl replied with a smile.
Just as she finished speaking, a servant's hurried voice came from a distance.
"Mr. Lewis, Mrs. Brown is here!"
