Hathaway snorted. "Of course I want what's best for my son! What benefits does my son marrying your daughter bring? It's just settling a disturbed situation for you. Apart from dragging down Oscar, what else does your family do?"
As she spoke, she sneered, "What's with the act you're putting up now, pretending to have a close mother-daughter relationship? Weren't you happy when you sold your daughter back then?"
"That's enough!"
Pearl interrupted Hathaway's words with a cold face.
She knew that the two million dollars became the reason why Hathaway looked down on her.
Even without it, even if she married into the Brown family, Hathaway would still not like her.
She did indeed agree to the two million dollars because of Charlie. She liked Oscar back then, and Charlie had seen through it, which was why he let her marry over.

So he said, "Since you say Oscar has someone else in his heart, then my daughter is not a shameless person. They can just get divorced! Charlie owed two million dollars back then, and we will repay your family as well!" It was Pearl who paid off the money he owed.
That was when he realized that if he had to sacrifice Pearl's happiness, he would never do it. They got married and the money was paid back, but Evans felt that something was off. But it was too late.
As expected, just as he had worried, how could Pearl be happy in such a family? If they could get divorced, it would be a good thing for Hathaway. She sneered and said, "If you want a divorce, then get a divorce. If you easily agree to it, what about Oscar…?"
"Who said anything about getting a divorce!"
Hathaway hadn't finished her words before she heard a deep voice. She turned around and saw Oscar grabbing onto the door frame, panting heavily. There was a thin layer of sweat on his face, and he looked at her gloomily.

"Oscar, you're still injured. Why did you come out!" Hathaway was worried, and she quickly went over to support him.
Oscar looked gloomy as he shook off her hand, not allowing her to support him. He simply repeated a sentence, "I never said I wanted to divorce Pearl!"

Kittie had nothing to say. She thought she had found a good son-in-law who could take care of Pearl. But the result was like this. With things reaching this point, divorce was the final outcome. There was nothing else to insist on.
Pearl thought for a moment and realized that there was no need to force it. So she lowered her gaze and said, "I understand."
Oscar looked at Pearl, not knowing what she was about to say. Pearl spoke honestly, "Mom and Dad, since it has come to this, there is nothing left for me to hide. My marriage with Oscar had a three-year agreement, where the two million dollars compensated for my three years of youth..."
