Chapter 241 As If Nothing Happened

"I’m not sad," Adrian said.

"I know," Pearl replied. "I mean, I’m not ready to move on yet."

"Is that all?" Adrian chuckled. "Don’t underestimate me. Sure, I have selfish motives, but I want to help you. You’re my best friend, feelings aside."

"I’m not that great," Pearl said, puzzled by his long-time affection.

Adrian paused, then simply said, "You are."

Pearl laughed again.

Adrian stayed until she fell asleep.

Watching her closely, he reached out to touch her face.

Even in sleep, her brows were furrowed, troubled. He gently smoothed them out.

Leaning in, he whispered, "Pearl, I never ask anything from you because everything I have is thanks to you."

He tucked her in, hoping she’d sleep well.

More than that, he hoped she’d live a worry-free life.

--

Pearl woke up to her alarm.

Still groggy, she noticed it was already dark outside. She checked the time and turned on her phone. Haley’s latest news popped up.

Her face turned grim.

Haley, a public figure, had many issues, but this one involved Magdalen too.

The headline screamed in red:

[Haley Seriously Ill, Forced to Hit the Wall!]

Comments flooded in.

[Who’s this person causing trouble in the ward? Where are Haley’s bodyguards?]

[Judging by the looks, not a good person. Her company is irresponsible, letting her be bullied!]

[I heard she’s connected to the company boss. Seems Haley’s suffering is approved. She’s been through a lot!]

[Inhumane! No matter her relationship with the boss, Haley shouldn’t be bullied. We fans will protect her!]

[We must seek justice for Haley! The company must apologize and make the bully pay!]

Haley’s fans were fighting back, filled with righteous indignation, determined to seek justice.

The incident had gained significant attention, with personal attacks flying.

Pearl scrolled through the comments, seeing more pop up.

[I know her, she’s Magdalen. She owns several beauty salons, very rich!]

[So what if she’s rich? With a bad attitude and poor character, she shouldn’t make money!]

Someone even posted pictures of Magdalen’s beauty salon.

The storefront was splashed with red paint, with "Go to hell" written in large letters.

Within ten minutes of the comment, someone had already caused trouble at Magdalen’s salon.

Pearl’s face grew darker.

She knew the dangers of the internet.

Cyberbullying was terrifying.

The beauty salon was already implicated, and she was even more worried about Magdalen’s safety!

Pearl quickly called Magdalen, but the call wouldn’t go through. She was getting restless.

Magdalen had gone to confront Haley because of her, and now with so many people cursing her online, could her life be in danger?

Pearl couldn’t stay calm. She dressed quickly, ready to go find Magdalen.

Before she could leave, Magdalen walked in, unscathed. "Pearl, look what I brought you. I noticed you’ve been feeling nauseous lately, so I brought you some apple pie and your favorite clam chowder."

"Magdalen."

Pearl’s heart, which had been in her throat, finally settled. She immediately ran over and hugged her.

Seeing her so agitated, Magdalen put down what she was holding. "Did something happen? You look very worried."

Pearl let go and examined her closely. "Were you hurt? Did anyone throw stones at you?"

Magdalen took her hand away. "How could I be hurt? No one can bully me."

She couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

"Haven’t you seen the news? Your beauty salon was vandalized. I was so worried," Pearl was nearly frantic with concern.

Magdalen, however, sat down and crossed her legs. "Let them smash it. If they do, they’ll have to pay for it. If they can’t, they’ll go to jail. At most, I’ll lose a bit of money, and I have plenty of that! It’s just a minor setback!"

She wasn’t worried at all.

She didn’t understand the online situation, but it didn’t affect her.

Even if the whole world cursed her, as long as she had money and lived well, she didn’t care at all.

Pearl admired her positive attitude. "Where are you living?"

"You don’t need to worry about that either," Magdalen said. "I have no fixed abode. I don’t even know which villa I’ll be staying in tonight!"

Pearl sat down and said to her, "The video of you hitting Haley has gone viral. Many people are cursing you, especially Haley’s fans. I’m worried. We need to figure something out."

Magdalen replied, "Don’t worry about it. In a few days, the hype will die down, and I’ll still be able to live my life normally."

"No, we can’t let you bear this infamy," Pearl disagreed. "I know you meant well, and I think there’s something fishy about Haley’s hearing loss. The internet feels sorry for her, and the video has leaked. Everyone is outraged, calling you a wicked woman. This issue will continue to escalate and won’t die down quickly."

"Don’t worry about me," Magdalen didn’t want her to stress. "You’re pregnant, don’t get anxious. It’s not a big deal. If someone curses me, I won’t curse back. It won’t hurt me. Besides, there are already plenty of people who curse me, so I don’t care."

"But you said there’s something fishy about Haley being deaf. I agree with that," Magdalen added.

--

Meanwhile, Oscar had just learned that the news of Haley’s illness had been exposed, and his face was extremely grim.

He held a meeting and directly exploded in anger. "What are you guys in the PR department doing? I told you to block the news in advance. How did it still get reported?"

"Mr. Brown, we blocked the news as soon as possible, but the angle of the video suggests it was posted by a third person present."

They couldn’t stop it.

Oscar hadn’t watched the video yet, but he knew there were many people online condemning Magdalen.

As soon as something happened to Haley, he was making calls in order to block news, as he was fearing it would impact Magdalen.
