Chapter 553 Getting Better and Better

RavenWing's face was still all business.

Pearl was floored. How the heck was she supposed to comfort him? What could she even say?

This was definitely not the right moment.

Louis was blindsided too. He'd always promised Paloma things would be fine. Now, he walked over to her, feeling like crap. "I'm sorry, you trusted me with this big secret, and I couldn't save you."

Paloma was lying in bed, looking rough from all the drugs, but she still managed a smile when Louis came closer. "It's not that big of a deal. Even if I hadn't told you, you'd have figured it out."

Moreover, She did it willingly, not wanting Louis to feel guilty.

Louis felt like his heart was in a vice. If he couldn't do anything, he'd just have to watch her die. But he didn't want her to have any regrets.

"I couldn't detox you, but don't worry, I'm not giving up. The bounty I put on the dark web is still up. If it comes to it, I'll avenge you. Got any last wishes?" Louis offered.

His eyes were steely with determination. If Paloma had a wish, he'd make it happen.

Paloma knew Louis was gonna marry Jimena. She didn't want to make things hard for him or mess up his pre-wedding vibes.

She kept smiling. "Mr. Mitchell, knowing you tried to save me and that you're here is enough. Best wishes to you and Jimena, happy newlyweds!"

That was Paloma's heartfelt blessing.

Louis didn't expect Paloma to still be thinking about not making things tough for him.

"Paloma, you're a good girl," Louis said, his voice cracking.

Louis stayed by Paloma's side, while Jimena felt a bit down. If Paloma hadn't been poisoned and kept fighting, she'd have been a tough rival.

But she couldn't say that, especially with Paloma on death's door.

Pearl saw Jimena's mood and went over to comfort her, patting her shoulder. "Don't overthink it. Louis is just grateful to Paloma. Besides, I knew her before."

Louis was sticking around out of old friendship.

Jimena took a deep breath and, after a moment of silence, finally opened up to Pearl. "Pearl, I get it. Actually, I should thank Paloma. If it weren't for her, Louis wouldn't have realized his feelings and wouldn't have wanted to marry me so quickly. Even though I understand her feelings to Louis, I still hope she gets better."

This was life and death; she couldn't say Paloma deserved to die. She wasn't that kind of person.

Jimena was actually a good person, and with her personality, she was the best wife for Louis and the perfect First Lady in the public's eyes.

"I know. So don't stress yourself out," Pearl told Jimena.

Jimena quickly shook off her funk.

At their wedding, Louis used the event to track down the folks who poisoned Paloma.

He showed them some mercy but laid it out straight, "If you want me to let you go, cough up the antidote for the poison you used."

The wedding was a big deal, and Louis made it look like he was all caught up in the celebration, making the bad guys drop their guard.

When they made their move, he nailed them.

One of them sneered, "It's been ages, and you've got RavenWing, the top poison expert, with you. Think there's an antidote for that poison?"

If there was an antidote, RavenWing would've already fixed Paloma up. Now, Paloma only had a few days left.

They planned to use Paloma to take out Louis and then vanish. They didn't expect Paloma to be so loyal, willing to die rather than betray Louis.

They also didn't expect Louis to use his wedding as a trap.

Louis's face was ice-cold, "No antidote? Then you all can die!"

He pulled the trigger and handed the gun to Paloma. Nothing would be more satisfying than her getting revenge herself. But even if she killed them, she wouldn't survive.

Still, since Louis handed her the weapon, she'd go along with his plan.

With the sound of gunshots, the bad guys dropped like flies.

Suddenly, Paloma, as if all her strength left her, collapsed backward. Louis, right beside her, caught her immediately.

The next second, Louis saw blood filling Paloma's mouth, even her eyes started bleeding.

"Help!" Louis shouted.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Mitchell. I wanted to hold on until your wedding was over, but I overestimated myself." Paloma's voice was barely a whisper.

Back after warning Louis about the danger, she should've left right away, so he wouldn't have to go through the hassle of saving her. Even if she had to die, she didn't want to die in front of him!

Paloma tried to get up from Louis's arms, but she was too weak. She couldn't even lift her hand.

"Don't move. Whatever you want to do, I'll take you," Louis's voice was so gentle.

Paloma had a fleeting wish. "Can you take me to see the stars?"

The night sky in Eldorians was full of bright stars. There was a saying in Eldorians that when people die, they become stars in the sky.

At the brink of death, Louis couldn't say no to such a small request. He took Paloma to see the stars, and she leaned on his shoulder.

The stars were indeed bright, but Paloma felt an intense cold, and her eyelids grew heavier. "Mr. Mitchell, I'm really sorry for messing up your wedding and your wedding night. I wish you all the best in the future."
