Chapter 320 Exposing Each Other
The whole restaurant was in chaos.
Pearl kept eating, but Adrian and Jeffery were on high alert.
"Pearl, there's a fire. We need to leave now," Adrian said.
"Okay."
They all left the restaurant together.
Since the restaurant was on the first floor, they could get out quickly if there was a fire.
Soon, everyone was outside, trying to see where the fire was.
The owner was still inside.
Pearl looked around and saw no smoke or signs of a fire.
"What's going on?" The customers were nervous. "Is there a fire?"
"The alarm went off, so there must be!"
"Look! The sprinklers are on!"
They were talking about the fire prevention system spraying water.
Amidst the chatter, the owner came out, looking embarrassed. "Sorry, our fire system malfunctioned, and the alarm went off. I apologize for the scare!"
He bowed to everyone.
"I'll prepare some small gifts to make up for this!"
The customers relaxed, realizing it was a false alarm.
"Thank goodness there wasn't a fire. Safety first!"
Everyone was understanding and didn't make a fuss.
They went back inside.
The restaurant had lost power and was dim.
Not a great place to eat anymore.
Pearl hadn't even wiped her mouth before coming out. She found it odd that the system malfunctioned, setting off the alarm and sprinklers.
She looked at their table; the food was now soup.
"Are you full?" Adrian asked, surprised by the situation. "If not, I'll treat you to the next meal."
"I'm not hungry now," Pearl replied. She had been, but the commotion killed her appetite.
Just then, the owner came over with small gifts. "Miss, I'm really sorry. These are from our store. I hope you don't mind."
He handed the gifts to Pearl with both hands.
Meanwhile, in the back kitchen, Nicholas and Elijah were hiding.
"I'm good, right? No need to start a real fire, just a little tap!" Elijah said smugly.
"Will they go for another meal? Should we tap the alarm at the next place?" Nicholas, who was also a solider in his twenties, asked. Unlike Elijah, he was straightforward.
They worried that if Pearl and her friends went to eat again, it would upset Oscar.
"I don't know, but this method works," Elijah said.
"Then let's keep an eye on them."
They peeked over.
"You are too kind," Pearl said, accepting the gift. "But I wonder what went wrong with your fire alarm system. Need any help?"
The owner quickly waved his hand. "No need, just a small malfunction. I'll get someone to fix it later."
Pearl looked at the owner. "We have professionals here who can help you check it out."
She pointed to Adrian and Jeffery.
"Really, no need," the owner still refused. "That's too much trouble for you."
Pearl's gaze turned to the back kitchen.
Lately, Pearl had been followed everywhere, so she suspected the alarm was tampered with.
She headed in that direction.
"Oh no, Ms. Harris is coming this way!"
Seeing Pearl approach, Nicholas and Elijah quickly moved towards the back kitchen.
"What's going on?" Nicholas asked. "Why is Ms. Harris coming? Did we get caught?"
"Impossible!" Elijah denied. "We're soldiers; she couldn't have discovered us."
"Then why is she coming?"
They crouched down.
"Let's hide first."
They found a concealed corner to hide in.
"Be careful not to get caught. We'll talk after she leaves."
Pearl checked the fire prevention system.
There was a hole in it, clearly smashed.
The owner quickly explained, "Maybe a waiter accidentally bumped into it, triggering the alarm."
"Your waiter is that strong?" Pearl asked. "This hasn't happened before, right?"
The owner stammered, "This is the first time."
Seeing the big hole, Pearl thought, 'This waiter must be really strong to hit the fire prevention system!'
She looked around but saw no one suspicious.
After this, the kitchen staff stopped working.
"Is she gone?"
Nicholas and Elijah were hiding under a table, blocked by obstacles.
The back kitchen was dark, and they couldn't see clearly.
"She probably hasn't left," Nicholas said. "No rush, we'll go out after she leaves. We're soldiers; we won't make mistakes."
"Okay!" Elijah replied.
Elijah felt something strange; his backside was wet. "Nicholas, are you crazy? What are you licking?"
Nicholas said, "You're the crazy one, you've been rubbing against me!"
Elijah couldn't stand it anymore. "You're a pervert!"
"You're the pervert!" Nicholas retorted.
A huge Rottweiler was behind them, licking its lips.
Seeing them argue, it barked and seemed to want to join in.
Nicholas and Elijah turned around and accidentally made a noise.
Seeing the drooling Rottweiler, they were disgusted and ran out.
Pearl was about to leave when suddenly two people ran out from the kitchen.
Their backs looked familiar.
Pearl's face changed, and she shouted, "Elijah!"
Elijah paused. "Oh no! I've been discovered!"
"It's all your fault for running out! Why did you run out?"
Elijah blamed Nicholas, "You ran out too. You're such a coward, afraid of a dog!"
"I'm not afraid of dogs! You're the one afraid of dogs. If it hadn't drooled on my hand, I wouldn't have run out!" Nicholas said.
"It's all your fault. See how you'll explain this!"
"It's clearly your fault!"
They kept bickering, neither backing down.
Pearl walked over, unnoticed by them. She asked, "Did you mess with the fire prevention system?"
"It wasn't me, it was him!" Elijah immediately pointed at Nicholas.
Seeing Elijah push the blame, Nicholas said, "Ms. Harris, it was him! He punched it and said if the alarm went off, no one would enjoy their meal!"
