Chapter 689 Do We Have To Make You Get Off?

"Hey, how about we take a walk in the garden?" Pearl suggested, plopping down next to Christopher.

Kids around six or seven were always bursting with energy.

She hated keeping Christopher stuck at home all the time, but she had no choice for his safety.

All she did was to prevent him from facing danger again. He was so young, and it was easy for him to become a target for those people who were ruthless and wouldn't spare him just because he was a kid.

"Sure," Christopher said, putting down his building blocks and getting up.

He glanced at Emily, who was snoozing in the rocking chair, and sighed, "I wish Emily would grow up faster so she could play with me."

Right now, all Emily did was cry, laugh, and sleep. Christopher didn't want to disturb her.

"When Dad catches all those bad guys, you can go out and play with your friends like before. And Emily will grow up bit by bit," Pearl said, taking his hand as they headed to the garden.

Calliope stayed home to look after Emily.

The garden was in full bloom this time of year. There was even a cradle nearby. With Pearl by his side, Christopher played happily until he was worn out two hours later and agreed to head back home.

"Mom, I saw this really beautiful flower. I want to take a picture of it and then draw it to hang in my room," Christopher excitedly told Pearl.

These little moments were what made life sweet.

Back in the living room, Christopher was parched from all the talking. Calliope quickly brought him a bowl of water. "Here, Christopher, have some water to soothe your throat."

"Thanks, Calliope," Christopher said politely, taking the bowl.

Just then, Pearl's phone rang.

Not wanting to wake Emily, who was still sleeping, she stepped aside to answer, "Oscar, you're calling at this hour. Did you find any leads on those people?"

"I've got the name of the organization, but we're still tracking their exact location. I'm in a meeting at the office and need a document from home. It's in a blue folder in my study drawer. Can you bring it over?" Oscar's voice was gentle.

Pearl didn't know what the document was, but if Oscar called, it had to be important. She went upstairs, found the document, and sent him a photo to confirm.

Once he confirmed it was the right one, she changed into sportswear and took the document downstairs.

She told Calliope, "I need to step out for a bit. Please watch the kids."

"Yes, Mrs. Brown," Calliope nodded.

Before leaving, Pearl turned to Christopher and asked, "Christopher, is there anything you want me to get? Just let me know, and I'll bring it back."

"I want KFC, a burger, an egg tart, and their mashed potatoes," Christopher said.

"Got it, I promise. Be good at home, and I'll be back soon." Pearl waved at him, slipped on her shoes, and headed out.

She randomly picked a car from the garage and sped off towards the company.

What she didn't notice was that as she passed an intersection, a car started tailing her, keeping a safe distance.

Soon enough, Pearl parked the car outside the company.

The receptionist recognized her and greeted her politely, "Hello, Mrs. Brown."

"Go ahead, don't mind me." Pearl quickened her pace, took the executive elevator to the top-floor conference room, and handed the document to Oscar.

In front of others, they didn't say much.

But after being married for so long, they could understand each other with just a glance.

As she walked out, Pearl bumped into Oscar's new assistant. They exchanged a brief greeting.

Pearl didn't think much of it and left the company, heading to a nearby mall where there was a KFC and she could also pick up some new toys for Christopher.

It was the weekend, and KFC was packed with parents and kids. The crowd slowed down the food service.

The server asked Pearl, "Ma'am, the egg tarts are sold out. We're baking more, but it'll take twenty minutes. Is that okay?"

Egg tarts were Christopher's favorite, and he only liked the ones from KFC.

Since she was already there, Pearl didn't want to leave empty-handed. "That's fine, I can wait. Just call me when they're ready."

While waiting for the food, she sat nearby and checked international news on her phone.

She felt a gaze on her.

Within seconds, Pearl sensed it. She looked up and glanced around. There were only noisy children nearby, and she didn't see anyone suspicious.

Was she mistaken?

But she shouldn't be. A woman's intuition was usually spot-on, and given her profession, she was highly sensitive to danger.

There were many people here, so even if someone was targeting her, they wouldn't make a move in such a crowded place. Pearl continued to look at her phone, pretending not to notice.

When the egg tarts were ready, she took the food and left KFC, her alertness heightened.

On the way back, she kept an eye on the rearview mirror. Soon, she noticed the car following her.

She didn't want to bring danger home, so she deliberately took a detour. The car continued to follow her until she passed a narrow alley, where it suddenly sped up.

At the same time, another car approached from the front.

One in front and one behind, clearly trying to force her to stop. Pearl stopped the car but didn't open the door.

The two cars also stopped, and several men in black got out, standing next to her car.

The leading man shouted at her, "Mrs. Brown, will you get out of the car yourself, or do we have to make you get off? The road is blocked by us from both ends. You have no way out."

Unless Pearl could grow wings, even if she floored the gas pedal and crashed into the cars, she wouldn't be able to escape!
