Chapter 108 Throw Someone Under the Bus

Haley wouldn't refuse; Auntie would accept it too. She can't go against Ms. Brown's wishes. She absolutely won't do that evil deed.

After a while, there was a knock on the door.

Seraphina was in the room, and when she heard the sound, she asked, "Who is it?"

"It's me, Haley."

Seraphina hesitated for a moment, but she still went to open the door.

Haley stood at the door, holding a bowl of soup in her hands, and smiled slightly at her. "Since you didn't go down, I brought you some soup that Auntie stewed. It's delicious."

Seraphina said, "I have a short appetite."

Haley placed the soup on the table, turned back to look at her, and asked, "Did you lose your appetite just because you saw me coming?"

Seraphina hurriedly said, "No, don't think too much."

"It's good if you didn't." Haley affectionately held her hand. "You're young, so call me big sis in the future. If you need any help, just let me know. As long as I can do it, I will definitely help you."

Haley's warmth made Seraphina a bit at a loss. "I..."

"I'm an only child, and I always wanted a younger sister when I was young. I see you look so much like me, quite like my sister." Haley thought of something and added, "By the way, I had the assistant pick out a few children's clothes. Take a look and see if they're suitable. If you don't like them, we can go choose together."

After speaking, Haley took out two sets of children's clothes. This directly brought Seraphina closer to her, filled with maternal radiance.

"How can this be? You're still the one giving clothes, but I'm just over a month pregnant, and my belly isn't showing."

Seraphina took the two sets of children's clothes. She hadn't thought about buying clothes for the child yet. But they looked very cute.

Haley said, "You need to prepare early. This is Oscar's first child, so it's important. Once the child is born, you'll have a special status in the Brown family. Auntie told me that your family is having difficulty, but when you have a child, they will give you a house and a car. Auntie really cares about you."

Seraphina was hopeful. Having money was also a good choice if the chance of being Oscar's wife was slim.

"Really?"

"Really, I wouldn't lie to you."

Changing the subject, Haley continued, "But Oscar and Pearl haven't divorced yet. And you're living in the Brown family. What if Pearl comes back? What will you do?"

"It won't happen. She won't come back."

"How do you know?" Haley asked.

"I heard it. She wants to divorce Oscar. She came back once to get clothes for Oscar." Seraphina was confident about this.

Haley said, "Do you know they've been talking about getting a divorce for months now, and nothing has happened yet?"

Seraphina looked at Haley. "For months? So they're not actually going to get a divorce?"

Even though Pearl announced the divorce in front of so many people.

"I thought you knew. So you didn't know after all. Pearl talks a lot but does little. Mr. Oscar is always better than Secretary Pearl. If it were you, could you bear to get a divorce? How could she give up all that power and influence? You underestimate her."

Seeing that Seraphina was listening, Haley continued, stroking Seraphina's hair, "You're still so innocent. Pearl is a schemer. How do you think she managed to marry Oscar? It was all her design, forcing Oscar into the marriage. This marriage isn't easy to walk away from. If she finds out you're carrying Oscar's child, who knows if that child in your belly will even make it."

Haley's words struck a chord with Seraphina.

Pearl loved Oscar. How could she ever bear to get a divorce? Could it be that Pearl was truly misleading her?

Pearl had previously said those things to warn her not to be infatuated with Oscar, but she herself seemed to like him.

With a child on the way, maybe Pearl would scheme against her child in the future. Seraphina held her belly, feeling apprehensive. She absolutely couldn't let Pearl succeed and harm her child.

Haley observed Seraphina's expression and stopped talking there. "Rest well, remember to drink the soup, I'll leave first."

With that, Haley walked out, but a cold smile played on her lips.

Her words had definitely unsettled Seraphina. She had to do something. She suddenly thought of Olivia and Isabelle, wondering how they were doing.

Pearl had just finished giving her statement at the police station and came out.

"Pearl!"

Arthur's figure appeared at the door. He didn't look much like Evans, nearing fifty, with a sallow complexion and some wrinkles. He extinguished his cigarette, crushed it underfoot, and questioned, "Where's Olivia?"

Pearl didn't have much of a feeling with Arthur. She hadn't been close to them since she was young.

Olivia would roast Pearl in front of Arthur, causing discord. Arthur was very indifferent to her and had never embraced her. When Pearl and her grandparents were together, Olivia felt that her grandparents favored Pearl more and didn't take care of Isabelle, so she had grievances against them.

Arthur believed this and rarely cared about them.

Pearl had no feelings for him and said calmly, "I don't know, you can go in and ask the police."

"I heard from Isabelle that you sent Olivia to jail. Olivia has been good to you, and you treat her like this?" Arthur said angrily.

Pearl replied, "Let's stick to the facts. Why would she be in there if she didn't make a mistake?"

"Didn't Olivia say you were evading debts? Why are you standing outside the police station? Aren't you afraid of being arrested?"

Arthur, seeing her lack of compassion, finally saw her true colors and said with a grim face, "You have ruined our family. Can I not care? You better release Olivia."

"She'll be detained for at most a day. She'll be released tomorrow."

Arthur was a troublemaker in his youth and continued to be unreliable as he got older.

With everything falling apart, there was no need to keep any emotional ties.

Pearl said, "If that's all, I'll leave."

"Stop!" Arthur called out to her again. When she turned back, he said, "Olivia told me you married into a wealthy family."

At this, Pearl furrowed her brow.

"Since you've married into a wealthy family, give me some money." Arthur walked up to her, boldly stating, "Don't blame me for mentioning family ties. When you were young, you lived at your grandparents' house, eating my food and wearing my clothes. Now that you've grown up and have money, it's time for you to repay me."

"I don't need much from you. Just give me five million." Arthur lit another cigarette, saying confidently, "The Brown family is so wealthy, and you've earned quite a bit over the years. Five million is a small matter for you."

Pearl knew he would pull something like this. Arthur was being greedy. She shot back. "Five million? That's straight-up extortion."

"I'm in a desperate situation now. I need money." Arthur added, "When I have money, I can repay you too."

Pearl retorted, "Have you repaid my father's money?"
