Chapter 562 Marvin Is Not a Good Person

Marvin, kinda hesitant, yanked Magdalen to the side. "Magdalen, I really dig you. No matter who you are, I'm into you."

Magdalen was Oscar's aunt, but not by blood. With all the shake-ups at the Brown Group lately, her stock had gone way up in Oscar's eyes.

One could argue that Oscar already viewed Magdalen as part of his family, evident from her prominent feature in the Brown Group's advertisements.

Marvin had finally found a solid connection and wasn't about to let it slip.

Magdalen had no clue about this. She turned to Pearl for help, not wanting Marvin to get all up in her face, and shoved him away.

Pearl freaked out and ran over to hug Magdalen, bawling her eyes out. "You can't be with him. I won't let it happen. You promised you wouldn't..."

She was so choked up she couldn't finish.

Pearl's meltdown made it look like Magdalen was some kind of heartbreaker, and a few people started whispering.

Magdalen gently calmed Pearl down, shot Marvin a cold look, and said seriously, "Marvin, I'm not into guys. Leave me alone."

With that, she grabbed Pearl and bolted out of the hotel, worried Marvin might follow and cause a scene.

"Is he tailing us?" Magdalen's voice was shaky.

Pearl shook her head. "No, but he's watching us. Wait, Oscar's coming down."

Magdalen picked up the pace, not wanting Oscar to mess up their plan.

"No, Oscar's heading towards Marvin. They're talking." Pearl nudged Magdalen aside, squinting to read Oscar's lips. "Oscar said if Marvin doesn't back off, he'll blacklist him."

Pearl looked at Magdalen, puzzled. "Is Marvin some kind of celeb?"

Magdalen shook her head. "Nah, he's just a signed model for the Brown Group. Let's not get into it. We need to get in the car and bounce."

She was really scared of getting tangled up again and didn't want to lose her newfound freedom.

They hopped in the car, but soon enough, Oscar's car blocked their way.

Pearl grumbled and shot Magdalen a look.

Magdalen nodded and made a call. "Oscar, Pearl and I have plans. You go do your thing."

Oscar said, "There's a party. I got you an invite. Also, watch out for Marvin; he's not gonna give up easy."

"Got it. I know what to do. But about that party, can Pearl come with me?" Magdalen glanced at Pearl, who nodded eagerly.

Who wouldn't want to have some fun?

Unexpectedly, Oscar's warning came through. "If you dare bring her, I'll back Marvin in chasing you."

Magdalen had no choice but to swear. She was curious about what kind of party it was that Pearl couldn't attend.

After the recent chaos in the Brown Group, there were tons of issues to sort out. Even though everyone respected Oscar, there were always a few who didn't get the memo.

One of those was the ex-HR head, Simone Piras, who got canned and blacklisted for backing Alfonso, and he was holding a grudge.

But he didn't go after Oscar directly. Instead, he used different channels to get in touch with Hathaway at the nursing home.

A breeze messed up Hathaway's hair, and the caregiver next to her quickly fixed it, so attentively that Simone felt a bit awkward.

If the caregiver had been a woman, it would've been no big deal, but he was a dude in his forties, which made things kinda weird.

"Simone, you didn't come here just to catch some rays at the nursing home, did you?" Hathaway didn't even look at him. She wasn't into the Brown Group drama.

Simone grinned like a suck-up. "Nah, of course not. I got something to talk about. You heard about the big shake-ups at the Brown Group? Oscar's booted Mr. Brown's crew, and now it's all his turf."

Hathaway just shrugged, not giving much of a reaction.

Simone kept up his brown-nosing. "If the Brown Group was still Mr. Alfonso Brown's, you wouldn't be stuck in a place like this. I heard you wanted to go abroad but didn't have the cash. Honestly, it's all ‘cause Oscar's holding all the cards."

"What's your point?" Hathaway asked, her face still calm.

Simone couldn't hold it in any longer and whispered a few words.

Hathaway's lips curled up. "Alright, you handle it."

Simone was so pumped he almost jumped for joy. He kept promising that everything would be set up perfectly.

The so-called setup was a family gathering.

Hathaway could be seen as Oscar's mom, and no one would dare to diss a gathering she hosted.

Naturally, Oscar wouldn't either.

That evening, as night fell, Oscar showed up at the club on time with Pearl and Christopher.

Seeing Hathaway, Oscar just gave a slight nod, no other pleasantries.

Hathaway's eyes were full of warmth as she looked at Christopher.

"Christopher, it's your Grandma," Oscar said. And Christopher called out, "Grandma."

Hathaway was thrilled and immediately handed Christopher a bank card she had ready.

Oscar and Pearl were stunned, feeling like Hathaway had changed a lot.

Since it was a family gathering, Magdalen couldn't be a no-show. As they were getting settled, they heard Magdalen's voice from outside.

"She's still as loud as ever," Hathaway muttered, not getting any response from Oscar and Pearl. She looked at Pearl. "Pearl, don't you think I'm right?"

"Magdalen's actually really nice. She might just be super excited today. Please don't hold it against her," Pearl said, already regretting coming.

As they talked, Magdalen arrived, greeted Oscar and the others, and sat next to Pearl, giving Hathaway a slight nod.

During dinner, Oscar smiled as he served Hathaway food, chatting about stuff at the nursing home like he'd been there himself.

It was clear Oscar had done his homework, showing his respect for Hathaway.

Hathaway felt a wave of maternal affection but was torn by what she had to do.

They were having a nice chat when Oscar suddenly switched gears. "I remember before you went to the nursing home, you used to travel a lot. If I'm not mistaken, your dream place to live is Luminara, right?"
