Chapter 679 There's Nothing to Say

Desiree didn't even hesitate before shutting her down. "Mom, I just split from Harold and came out here to chill for a bit. How can you already be thinking about marrying me off to someone else? I can't deal with that right now."

Even if she did want to remarry, it would have to wait. Plus, she wasn't even considering it.

She didn't like Daryl and had zero interest in getting hitched again.

"Desiree, I used to think the same way, that you should only think about remarrying after moving on. But look at you now, living alone in a hotel and eating takeout. How can we not worry?" Tessa kept trying to convince her.

Instead of letting her be miserable alone, it would be better to have Daryl around. At least they'd have each other.

Liam chimed in, "Daryl is genuinely good to you. You just can't see who really cares. If you break his heart, what will you do later?"

He thought, 'We can support Desiree forever, but we won't be around forever. If she stays alone, what then? Why should Harold get to have fun while Desiree stays loyal to a playboy?'

"Dad, Mom, you need to think about my feelings too. I just lost a child, and now you're pushing me to accept another man. I'm a person, not a pet you can just pair up with someone else and expect to be happy." Desiree was really frustrated.

She didn't want to hurt anyone, but she didn't want to hurt herself either.

Liam frowned. "What are you talking about?"

He wasn't in a rush to marry her off, he just couldn't stand seeing her stuck on Harold. And if they got back together, he couldn't handle that either.

"Mr. Sandvik, Mrs. Sandvik, I've booked a room next door for you. Why don't you go rest for a bit? I'll have a good talk with Desiree. We're the same age and good friends, so we'll have more to talk about," Daryl offered.

Out of respect, Liam and Tessa got up and left.

Soon, it was just the two of them.

Desiree didn't hold back. "I know you called my parents over. Why did you do that? You knew they'd lecture me. That's why I didn't go home."

"Desiree, do you really see me that way?" Daryl said with a bitter smile.

Desiree stayed silent, which was answer enough.

It was obvious. Daryl "coincidentally" ran into her, then Liam and Tessa showed up, bringing him along.

If he wasn't behind it, she wouldn't believe it.

"You've got it all wrong. I never meant to use them to pressure you, or to bring them here," Daryl replied.

"Then how did the three of you end up here together?" Desiree cut him off, her face cold. "You can go rest next door too. There's nothing more to say between us."

"Don't be like this, Desiree. If I leave now, Mr. and Mrs. Sandvik will know we didn't have a good talk. Then they'll come back and ask you again, and I don't want to cause you more trouble," Daryl quickly explained.

Desiree knew Liam and Tessa would totally do something like that.

So she didn't tell Daryl to leave again, but she didn't pay him any attention either. She walked over to the window, staring at the busy street outside, letting him ramble on behind her.

Then he brought up Liam and Tessa again, "Desiree, even if you get married, you're still their daughter. Do you really think they'd just let you go? They found out everything about you and Harold, including this hotel you're staying at, which your family has shares in."

Desiree was taken aback. She hadn't realized that.

She quickly pulled out her phone to check, and sure enough, the Sandvik Family held a 1% stake in this hotel chain.

Even though that small share couldn't influence the hotel's management, it made it easy to check the guest list.

So she really had misunderstood Daryl.

Desiree turned around and apologized, "I'm sorry, I jumped to conclusions. But we really can't be together."

"I know, we're just friends. But only you and I know that. Our parents don't accept it. They wanted us to get married before, and now with your situation with Harold, Mr. and Mrs. Sandvik hope you can move on quickly," Daryl said, playing the innocent card.

But he had a hand in all of this.

He had exaggerated Harold's issues to Liam and Tessa, used his connections to find out where Desiree was, and then brought them to corner her.

As for his parents, he only wanted to marry Desiree, so what could they say?

After all, the two families were a good match, so this marriage would be ideal.

"So let's act, put on a show for our parents. They're worried about you now, so they'll keep a close eye on you. But after a while, they won't focus all their attention on us," Daryl continued to persuade.

Desiree hesitated.

This plan was good for her, but why would he go to such lengths for her?

She had just gone through a terrible marriage and didn't want to marry and have kids again. But Daryl was different: he surely wanted a warm family and a well-behaved child.

Considering all these factors, Desiree still refused, "You're a good person, but I can't be so selfish. I'll explain to my parents. I just don't agree. Can they really force me to marry?"

Especially in her current state, not eating or sleeping well, if they kept pressuring her, she didn't know if she could hold on.

"But Desiree, you have to think about your parents. They're old and still worrying about you," Daryl tried a different approach to persuade her.

He said all the right things, and finally, Desiree agreed. "Then let's act for a while and see how things go."

Daryl felt a surge of joy.

Acting or not, as long as Desiree agreed today, he was confident he could turn the act into reality, and they would really be together.

As for Harold, who cared about him?

Daryl lowered his head, a trace of contempt flashing in his eyes. Harold was just a small assistant to Oscar before. Now everyone called him Mr. Lewis, but wasn't that still because of Oscar?
