Chapter 748 That is Only Fair

Azalea spotted Nathaniel strolling over, looking sharp in a black suit.

Saskia, standing behind her, noticed him too.

Saskia's breath caught as memories came rushing back. She thought, 'Saskia, you were with George before. Now it's Nathaniel. You have to let him go!'

He was Nathaniel, but also George.

She could've been happy with George, but Nathaniel was a different story, so she chose to walk away.

Since then, she had buried George deep in her memory.

Until today, when Azalea kept bringing up George, stirring up those old memories.

Nathaniel approached Azalea as George, even got her pregnant, and now had both Saskia and Azalea living in his house. This was revenge.

But why drag Azalea into it?

Azalea hadn't done anything wrong. If there was a mistake, it was having a sister like Saskia.

"I just went outside to greet a guest. Are you done with everything on your end?" Nathaniel asked casually as he walked up to Azalea.

Azalea slipped her arm through his, and they exchanged a smile.

She was in a gown, and he was in a suit. If Saskia had only looked at the scene before her, she would have thought they truly were a perfect couple.

But Saskia, thinking about everything that had just happened, felt tears welling up again.

Why did Nathaniel have to take things this far?

"Everything else is done. It's just that a few more of my friends showed up, but we don't have enough seats. Should we add another table or just some chairs?" Azalea asked.

"Either one works for me. It's up to you," Nathaniel said with a smile.

Rather than saying he was accommodating Azalea, it was more accurate to say he simply didn't care about the matter at all.

He didn't truly like Azalea. Even his name was fake, let alone this engagement party.

But Azalea didn't notice any of this and laughed even more joyfully. "George, do you really go along with everything I say?" she asked.

"Of course. After the engagement party, I'll give you my paycheck card. From now on, you handle the money," Nathaniel said, glancing at Saskia as he spoke.

Hearing this, Saskia felt a sharp pain in her heart.

Nathaniel had said the same thing to her when they were happy together. Now, everything had changed, and he was saying the same words to Azalea.

Even his identity was fake, let alone that paycheck card. The transactions were probably all fabricated.

But Azalea didn't know.

She was completely immersed in her happiness, but as her sister, Saskia couldn't say anything.

Saskia could only watch as Azalea walked away.

With just the two of them left, Nathaniel stepped closer to Saskia, lifting her chin with his hand. "Saskia, aren't you curious why Azalea calls me George?" he asked.

He was directly addressing the issue.

Tears fell from Saskia's eyes as she pleaded, "Nathaniel, I know you hate me. You can take your revenge on me, but please don't involve Azalea. She's innocent. You're such an excellent lawyer, well-versed in the law. Do you really need to resort to collective punishment?"Even in cases of serious crimes, the law didn't punish a sibling for the other's actions.

And Saskia hadn't done anything nearly as severe as that!

"Innocent?" Nathaniel scoffed. "You took so much money. Didn't you share any with Azalea? If not, then your sisterly bond isn't worth much."

Hearing this, Saskia felt another pang of pain.

She knew that nothing she said would matter now. Nathaniel wouldn't believe her.

In his eyes, she was just a gold digger. He wouldn't even look at her properly.

But even so, Saskia pleaded, "It's been four years since we were together. Now Azalea is pregnant with your child. That's your own child. Since you're getting married, please treat her well."

Nathaniel's gaze grew colder at her words.

His hand moved down to her collar.

Saskia was terrified.

They were standing in a hallway, with cameras overhead and people who could walk by at any moment.

If anyone saw them like this, it would be all over the news.

At this point, what was Azalea supposed to do?

She longed for a family, a loving husband, and a cute baby.

Thinking about this, Saskia felt even more guilty.

Why hadn't she paid more attention to Azalea over the years?

If she had known earlier that Azalea's boyfriend was Nathaniel, she would have intervened and separated them.

"Saskia, you haven't repaid what you owe me. Do you think a few words can settle everything? Do your words carry the weight of the law?" Nathaniel mocked.

He continued, "Between us, the debt will never be settled. I can despise you, but you don't get to walk away."

Years ago, Saskia had kicked him to the curb. Did she think he would give her another chance to do it again?

Saskia asked, "What about Azalea? What about her child?"

"That's your problem to figure out, isn't it?" Nathaniel threw the question back at her.

Saskia looked up at him and noticed resentment and hatred in his eyes, but there was no compassion for Azalea.

What had Saskia done to make Nathaniel hate her so much, to the point where he didn't even care about his own child?

Saskia felt her heartache to the point of numbness and retorted, "What do I have to do for you to leave Azalea alone? You may think I'm a monster, but what you're doing right now is a thousand times worse."

Even wild animals protect their young.

But what was Nathaniel doing?

"Saskia, who gave you the right to judge me?" Nathaniel's sneer deepened.

The child Azalea was carrying wasn't his.

No matter how much Nathaniel hated Saskia, Azalea was still her sister. He wasn't that despicable. He wouldn't touch a woman he didn't love, let alone get her pregnant.

But why should he tell Saskia the truth?

Only he knew how he had survived these past four years.

Countless nights, he lay awake, unable to sleep, passing the time by reading law books at his desk.

Everyone praised him as the best lawyer in Willow Creek, but only he knew the pain behind it.

And Saskia?

She had left, living a glamorous life with the money she took. Why should she get away with it?

The pain Nathaniel endured, he wanted her to experience as well. That was only fair.
