Chapter 730 She Brought It Upon Herself

Ember was livid, shouting, "I must've been out of my mind to ever think you could be my daughter-in-law. Thank God Harold doesn't like you. If you ever got into the Lewis family, you'd turn our lives upside down!"

"Well, you started this mess. You made me the other woman and even made me drink that spiked water. Who knows what kind of damage it might've done to me?" Isolde shot back, seizing the moment.

Since they were already at each other's throats, she didn't hold back. "Here's the deal: either I marry Harold, and you figure out how to make it happen—if you could drug him once, you can do it again—or you pay me $50 million."

Isolde's demand was outrageous.

Ember was floored by the amount. "Fifty million dollars? Are you nuts?"

That kind of money could last several lifetimes. Even if Harold had that much in liquid assets, it was hard-earned. There was no way she could just hand it over to Isolde.

"No money, huh? Then don't blame me." Isolde pulled out her phone and pointed the screen at Ember.

Ember had a sinking feeling. "What are you doing?"

"Sharing your dirty laundry with the internet. Harold is a company president, and his wife is from the Sandvik family. If this gets out, you'll be crucified online," Isolde said smugly.

With nothing to lose, Isolde was determined to get that $50 million.

"Isolde, how can you do this?" Ember's lips trembled. She tried to sit up, but it was difficult in her current state.

At that moment, she realized how wrong she had been. She had been deceived by Isolde's facade. In contrast, Desiree had always been genuine, never pretending to be something she wasn't.

The more Ember thought about it, the more she regretted her actions. She had been crazy to overlook someone as good as Desiree for someone as fake and greedy as Isolde.

"Stop wasting my time. Are you giving me the money or not? If not, I'm going live right now," Isolde demanded, not backing down.

Ember had no choice but to try to buy time. "I'll get you the money. Just go home first. Once I have it, I'll transfer it to you immediately."

"Like I'd believe that. Either you pay me now, or I go live," Isolde said, stepping closer and nearly shoving the phone in Ember's face.

Ember didn't have that kind of money on her. Seeing Isolde's determination, she tried to grab the phone, but Isolde stepped back, holding it high above her head, mouthing, "Money."

In the next moment, Ember accidentally knocked over the hot water kettle on the bedside table. It crashed to the floor, spilling hot water everywhere.

Both Ember and Isolde were splashed with hot water.

"Did you do that on purpose?" Isolde snarled, her teeth clenched in anger.

Just as she was about to lash out, the hospital room door opened.

Desiree walked in with a doctor. She stopped when she saw Isolde, then looked at Ember lying in bed, feeling a mix of emotions.

She had long known what kind of person Ember was, so she wasn't surprised.

"Desiree, grab her phone! She's live-streaming to ruin our family," Ember urgently called out.

Isolde's face twisted with rage.

Why?

Ember had been the one who wanted her as a daughter-in-law, and now she was the one who wanted her gone.

Sure, she was greedy and wanted to be a rich wife, but if Ember hadn't been so proactive, she wouldn't have set her sights on Harold.

Desiree quickly snatched the phone from Isolde. Seeing the small number of viewers, she ended the live stream and tossed the phone aside.

"Isolde, I haven't even begun to settle our scores, and here you are. Perfect, let's settle everything now," Desiree said coldly.

Isolde had so many paths she could have taken, but she chose the most despicable one.

"What scores? Everything was her doing. She targeted you and caused your miscarriage!" Isolde tried to deflect the blame onto Ember.

But her tricks might fool Ember, not Harold or Desiree.

As Desiree was about to leave, Ember called out to her, tears streaming down her face. "I was wrong. I shouldn't have treated you so badly. Can you forgive me, Desiree?"

Desiree didn't respond.

She could overlook the mistreatment, but she could never forget the child she lost.

That wound was too deep to heal.

"I must be paying for my sins with this illness. You two should live well. I won't interfere anymore. Just let me see the baby when it's born," Ember pleaded.

Desiree finally nodded. "Of course. Rest well, Mrs. Lewis."

Desiree had come to the hospital because Harold was discussing honeymoon plans with Liam and Tessa. She had contacted an expert to discuss Ember's condition.

She hadn't expected to walk in on this scene.

She could see that Ember was genuinely remorseful, but it was too late. They would all go their separate ways from now on.

In the hospital room, Ember's tears flowed even more. The regret hit her like waves, especially when she remembered how sweetly Desiree used to call her "Mom."

But she had destroyed all that sweetness with her own hands. She had no one to blame but herself.
