Chapter 410 This Is an Opportunity

Pearl grabbed Miguel's arm, whose whole village had been wiped out by RavenWing, and Louis had ties to them.

She worried Miguel might lose control and blow their cover.

Her grip made Miguel realize her concern.

Pearl said, "If there's nothing else, we'll head out."

To Louis, they were outsiders.

He was probably sizing them up too.

They just wanted to see Louis, but he noticed them first. Time to regroup.

Louis smiled but didn't say anything, agreeing with Pearl.

As soon as they left, Louis called over two guys.

He told them in Eldorians, "Keep an eye on them."

Pearl and Miguel went back to Juan's place and entered the room he mentioned.

"We're being watched."

Pearl had noticed Louis's probing look.

No doubt he had people tailing them.

Miguel clenched his fists, seething. "I'll catch him and make him spill about RavenWing!"

"Juan only said he knows RavenWing. RavenWing won't be alone. Don't act rashly," Pearl said calmly.

They needed to save their energy, gather info slowly, and find a place with a signal to make a call.

Pearl's words calmed Miguel down a bit.

Pearl said, "When Juan gets back, can you help me ask for a phone charger?"

"Sure," Miguel agreed. "I'll teach you some basic Eldorians and translate, but you have to take me with you everywhere."

"Okay."

Before Juan returned, Pearl started learning basic Eldorians from Miguel.

She picked up everyday phrases quickly.

Juan came back at 7 PM.

Camila had dinner ready and called them to eat.

Pearl took out 200 Eldorian bills.

She said, "Given our situation, he's hurt, and I can't leave him. We need to stay here for a while. Give us any work you have; this is for our food."

Miguel translated.

The village made money by selling veggies and eggs. Because of the war, they didn't go far.

They usually didn't make this much money.

Seeing Pearl's offer, Juan's eyes lit up. "As long as you pay, you can stay as long as you want."

"Our meals are simple. Just tell Camila what you need. For work, it's mostly picking veggies. But tomorrow, I need to go repair the school."

Miguel translated, and Pearl's eyes lit up. "Can I go with you?"

Louis was a teacher, and the kids liked him.

This was a chance.

"You?" Juan looked at Pearl, surprised.

To Juan, Pearl looked too thin for hard labor.

Pearl nodded, understanding his concern.

"I can help with cleaning or cooking if needed. I'm from Tranquiloria and know a lot of things," she said.

"Alright, I'll introduce you to Mr. Mitchell tomorrow," Juan replied, not thinking too much about it. Pearl being from Tranquiloria and speaking English like Louis made it easier.

Pearl mentioned cooking, which could be a way to show gratitude to Louis if he liked her food.

"Thank you," Pearl said.

Though not used to Eldorian food, she ate half a bowl of potato mush to keep her strength up.

After dinner, Pearl went back to the small room, where there was no bed, so Juan gave them two pieces of cardboard.

Lying on the cardboard, Pearl thought of Barbara and wondered how she was doing.

Miguel's voice interrupted her thoughts. "I'm going with you tomorrow."

Pearl hadn't mentioned Miguel to Juan, but he needed to keep an eye on Louis.

"Your hand is injured. You might have to work tomorrow," she said.

"I can handle it," Miguel replied firmly.

"Alright, then get some rest," Pearl said, not wanting to argue.

A while later, there was a knock at the door.

Miguel got up and found Juan holding a white charger. "Here's the charger you needed."

"Thanks," Miguel said, taking it and handing it to Pearl.

Pearl tried the charger, but it didn't work. "It doesn't work," she sighed.

"These are the chargers we have. Mr. Mitchell might have one. You can ask him tomorrow," Juan said, noticing her frustration.

"Okay, thank you," Pearl replied.

After Juan left, Pearl looked at Miguel. "Are you still unwilling to tell me your name?"

"I'm Miguel," he finally said.

Pearl nodded. "If we both survive, will you come back to Tranquiloria with me?"

Miguel shook his head. "I don't want to."

Pearl was surprised.

"This is my homeland, where I belong," Miguel said firmly.

Pearl understood. "Then let's hope things get better for us."

With her phone dead, Oscar, Barbara, and Carol couldn't reach Pearl. Both sides were looking for her.

The next morning, Pearl followed Juan to the school.

It was a rundown building with weeds in the yard. The children were gathered around a small table, reading from yellowed papers.

Pearl listened carefully.

"You're pronouncing it wrong. This word should be pronounced like this," she said, walking over to correct them.

She wrote the correct pronunciation on their papers.

The children were stunned.

Not far away, Louis noticed Pearl and the cross bracelet on her wrist as she wrote.
