Chapter 382 He Didn't Stay for Me Either

"Okay."

Without another word, Janetta drove off.

Pearl stayed quiet, feeling empty inside.

Loving someone meant caring about their feelings and hoping they valued yours.

She felt really let down.

Suddenly, Janetta slammed on the brakes.

Luckily, Pearl had her seatbelt on, but she was still shaken.

"Who the heck is blocking my car with all these vehicles?" Janetta fumed. It was late, and she was scared. Good thing she was a skilled driver.

Pearl was momentarily blinded by the headlights.

She had no idea what was going on.

Then, the car door opened.

Janetta was about to curse, but seeing Oscar, she stopped.

"It's late. Come back with me. Whatever you need to say, say it at home. I'm here now," Oscar said calmly.

Pearl looked up and saw Oscar. He seemed rushed, his clothes a bit messy, but her heart stayed cold.

'Wasn't he too busy to come home? Wasn't he the one not answering calls?'

Now that she was leaving, he was worried. Why?

Pearl said, "I want to go back. This isn't my home."

"You are my wife. How is this not your home? Everything I have is yours," Oscar insisted.

Pearl laughed. "Didn't we get divorced? When things were good, everything of yours was mine. When things were bad, I got a few million dollars and a villa. By that logic, I got a good deal. But a man's words are all lies!"

Oscar replied, "Did you go with me to get the divorce certificate?"

Pearl's face changed. "We signed the divorce agreement."

"The proper procedure is that we're only truly divorced when we get the certificate!"

Pearl pursed her lips. "So what? Isn't it the same as being divorced?"

Oscar placed his hand on the car door, speaking patiently. "It's different. No matter what our marriage was like before, you are my wife now. Everything I have is shared with you—my house, my company, even my honor. Anything under my name is yours!"

Pearl responded mockingly. "You sure know how to sweet talk now."

"It's the truth," Oscar said sincerely. "I know you're still mad at me. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have hurt you or lost my temper. I'll be more careful in the future."

Pearl looked at him, whose eyes were sincere, and he seemed genuinely humble.

She was easily softened.

His words had already eased much of her anger.

She was about to forgive him.

But after so many lessons, even a fool would be cautious. "Why are you doing this? Knowing the damage is irreversible, why still do it?"

Oscar hesitated, his eyes showing a complex expression.

He was afraid of another incident but couldn't bear to let Pearl leave. Even a night apart was very painful for him.

Seeing he couldn't answer, Pearl continued, "Move your cars. You're not only blocking our way but also others'. Oscar, even if you have money and power, you can't affect the traffic."

Oscar clenched his fists and asked, "If I leave, what will you and the baby do?"

Pearl hated hearing this, which made her uncomfortable, but she replied, "Without you, will I not survive? When you were with Haley, didn't I live just fine? If you're talking about the baby's birth, I have friends and parents. He'll be born healthy, and you don't need to worry."

Her words were firm.

Oscar was worried but more concerned about Pearl's future.

Being with him was happy now, but if he ever became someone who could hurt her, that would be the worst.

He was reluctant but had to face reality.

Oscar looked at Pearl's cold face, worried his decision might be wrong.

He feared causing her harm.

"Are you going back to your parents'?" Oscar asked calmly.

"Yes," Pearl replied.

Oscar glanced at her belly. "You can go back, but take care of yourself. Don't get hurt. Don't run around to avoid danger. I don't know if I can be there when the baby is born, but I'll make sure you're both taken care of."

Pearl expected something nice, but his words sounded like a farewell, confusing her. She frowned. "What do you mean by that?"

"If you want to go back, I won't stop you," Oscar said calmly. "Janetta will take you, but I'll also send someone to make sure you get home safely."

He dodged her question.

He didn't explain well or try to comfort her, which made her angrier.

"Fine, then move aside!" Pearl's tone was even colder.

Oscar stepped back, and Pearl slammed the door shut, not looking at him again, staring straight ahead.

Janetta stayed silent.

She thought Oscar could persuade Pearl to stay.

Since Oscar had chased after her, he must care about Pearl.

But it ended like this.

She couldn't understand how they got to this point.

But seeing Pearl's face, she naturally sided with her.

The cars in front moved aside, clearing the way.

Janetta drove slowly.

On the surface, Pearl pretended not to care, but deep down, she cared a lot. She wondered how much Oscar loved her and what he was willing to sacrifice for her.

But it seemed she got nothing in return.

She couldn't help but look in the rearview mirror, the only place she could see him without him knowing.

She saw Oscar standing there, his eyes fixed on their car, looking as if he didn't want her to leave.

This made Pearl feel a bit broken, her heart aching.

She still loved Oscar, and the pain only intensified.

She wanted to look away, but her eyes wouldn't move until his figure disappeared. She still wanted to see him through the rearview mirror.

Even if he said, "Can you not leave?"

But he didn't.

He said nothing at all.

Pearl leaned back in her seat, suddenly feeling weak.

"Why say those things if you didn't want to leave? He was about to take you back," Janetta observed, noticing Pearl's reluctance to leave Oscar.

Pearl said, "Maybe I was just acting out. Women seek attention from men in love and act out a bit. If the man cares, it's worth it. If not, you become a clown, like me now. I'm nothing. He'd rather watch me leave than keep me."
