Chapter 876 Surprise

Nathaniel picked up the proposal that had been set aside.

Electra realized her mistake and felt a bit embarrassed, but tried to keep her cool. She glanced at his actions and said, "This is the project I want you guys to handle. Just let me know if you can do it or not!"

Saskia couldn't read Nathaniel's thoughts.

She didn't want Electra to succeed. Electra had come looking for trouble from the start, clearly with bad intentions.

Why give her a chance?

But Nathaniel glanced at her, his lips curving gently as if to reassure her. "I think we can do it."

This was directed at Saskia.

Electra, however, thought it was meant for her. Instantly, her previous frustration vanished, and she crossed her arms smugly. "Saskia, did you hear that? Nathaniel is your boss, right?"

"Your boss has spoken. Now, you have nothing to say, do you?"

Her smug demeanor made it clear she thought she had Saskia cornered.

Though it was true, her attitude was still annoying.

Saskia frowned.

At that moment, Nathaniel spoke up. He looked at Electra, "Ms. Ross, although I said we could do this project, that doesn't mean you can act out at the Egan Group. Show some respect to my secretary, or I won't hesitate to have you escorted out."

Electra opened her mouth, her face grim.

Saskia felt much better. Accepting the project didn't seem as bad now. "Alright, I agree."

She took the proposal from Nathaniel's hand.

Electra glanced at her, then at Nathaniel, sneering, "Don't disappoint me, Ms. Fuller."

After Electra left, Saskia asked, "You could have refused earlier. Why did you agree?"

"If we don't agree, she'll keep finding ways to bother you. I think this is better, to eliminate future troubles. What do you think?" Nathaniel asked with a smile.

Saskia thought for a moment and nodded, "You're right."

Thinking back, she felt a bit annoyed with herself.

She had let her emotions take over.

Nathaniel gently reassured her, his deep voice soothing, "Don't be too hard on yourself. You're just not used to it yet. It'll get better."

She exhaled and regained her spirit.

Electra's project was indeed challenging.

She was confident that Saskia couldn't handle it.

But after a day of careful thought, Saskia came up with a win-win draft.

She brought the draft to Nathaniel, "Take a look. Do you think this will work?"

Nathaniel hadn't had it easy these past few days either. Robbie had long since retired, and Caleb was nowhere to be found.

The entire company's burden fell on him alone.

Saskia noticed the dark circles under his eyes and realized he hadn't been resting well, working late into the night and waking up early.

She pulled back her hand, wanting to take the draft back. "Never mind, I'll ask someone else."

Nathaniel gently but firmly took it, asking, "Who else would you ask?"

"I think you're too tired. Don't you want to rest?"

"No need, it's just a bit of work."

Nathaniel answered without looking up, his eyes focused and serious.

Saskia's heart softened.

It felt like her efforts were being taken seriously.

After a while, Nathaniel rubbed his tired eyes and looked at her with a slight smile. "The draft is good, just a few minor tweaks."

Saskia immediately leaned in, eager to learn.

Nathaniel, playing the role of teacher, shared his insights generously.

The afternoon flew by.

Saskia felt satisfied, clutching the draft that still needed refining, and hurried off to make the changes.

She worked straight into the evening.

Nathaniel finished his work and noticed her still glued to the computer. He sighed and then gently pulled her up.

Saskia's upper body suddenly lifted, and she was stunned. "Nathaniel, what are you doing? I'm not done yet."

Nathaniel pointed to his watch, "Look at the time."

Saskia checked the time and stood up quickly, almost bumping into him.

"Oh no, Benjamin!"

Then she remembered she had asked the nanny to pick him up.

Nathaniel saw her expression and didn't need to ask to know what she was thinking. He looked a bit helpless. "Even if you don't need to pick up Benjamin, you should leave work on time. I won't pay for overtime."

Then he pulled her out of the chair like pulling a stubborn weed.

Leaving the office, Saskia felt reluctant for the first time.

Her draft was almost done.

But Nathaniel's attitude was firm.

During rush hour, the road home was a bit congested.

Saskia's resentment had faded. She wasn't obsessed with work; just wanted to finish the project quickly. Now, looking out the car window at the traffic, she noticed Nathaniel's slightly frustrated expression.

She was curious and felt a bit strange."You seem eager to get home today?"

Nathaniel paused subtly, "I just want to see Benjamin sooner. I've been busy and haven't spent much time with him."

Hearing this, Saskia's strange feeling disappeared, remembering Benjamin's quiet complaint last night about his busy parents.

She felt a pang of guilt.

Saskia suddenly wanted to see Benjamin as much as Nathaniel did.

Unbeknownst to her, Nathaniel secretly sighed in relief.

He almost let it slip.

Half an hour later, they arrived home.

Saskia used her key to open the door, wondering why no one answered after ringing the bell for so long.

She felt a bit nervous, hoping no one was inside.

Thinking this, she hurriedly pushed the door open.

The next second, a burst of confetti exploded, and streamers fell like snowflakes, covering her head.

Saskia's anxious expression froze, looking comical.

"Happy birthday, Mom!" Benjamin jumped out from behind the door.

Someone turned on the living room lights, and Saskia's eyes brightened.

The sudden light dazzled her for a moment. Once she adjusted, she was stunned to see the decorated living room, pink balloons on the ceiling, steaming dishes on the table, and a big cake in the center.

Pearl and Christopher were there too, standing nearby.

Seeing her look over, Pearl held Christopher's shoulder and explained, "These kids wanted to celebrate your birthday, so they came up with this. Don't blame us for keeping it a secret."

Saskia looked back at Nathaniel, who handed her a bouquet of flowers.
