Chapter 408 RavenWing is Helping Them
Pearl saw Miguel angrily tearing at the flag with the creepy pattern.
She walked over and said, "Your hand's really messed up, but I couldn't find any good medicine. I can only clean it with iodine for now. If we don't treat it, you might lose your hand."
"And ripping up the flag won't help."
The flag was just a piece of cloth.
Miguel's eyes flashed with anger. "One day, I'll cut off the head of RavenWing!"
His family had been killed by RavenWing.
His dad, Marco Navarro, was captured by them and was still missing. He hated RavenWing!
"I don't like them either, but you need to take care of yourself first," Pearl said.
Miguel asked, confused, "Did RavenWing hurt your friends or family?"
"No," Pearl replied. "But they've messed up my life."
Miguel scoffed, "They have no humanity."
Pearl had seen enough to know that.
She knew she wouldn’t find peace until RavenWing was gone.
"You know this area, right? Do you know where their base is? Want to come with me? It might be dangerous, so think it over." Pearl cleaned Miguel's hand with iodine and bandaged it.
Miguel looked puzzled. "Are you going after RavenWing?"
"No, they're after me," Pearl said calmly.
Since they were looking for her, she might as well go to them.
Barbara was in their hands.
As a hostage, she could gather info about Adrian and send messages out, which was the quickest way.
She was also curious about RavenWing's true nature.
Miguel was silent for a bit, then said, "Let's go."
RavenWing had looted the village, and everyone was dead. There was nothing left.
He had already burned the villagers' bodies, so there was no reason to stay.
Pearl followed Miguel.
He led her into a forest. It was midday and scorching hot. The forest made it worse.
After a few steps, Pearl was drenched in sweat.
She hadn't eaten or drunk anything, leaving her exhausted.
She leaned against a tree, trying to catch her breath.
"Wait here for me," Miguel said, then left before Pearl could respond.
She had no choice but to wait.
She checked the time; it was past 3 PM, and her phone was dying.
Suddenly, she heard unsettling noises, a chill running down her spine.
Pearl got alert and dodged instinctively.
But Miguel was faster.
"Watch out!" he shouted.
Then Pearl was pushed to the ground by a strong force.
She saw Miguel grabbing a snake with his bare hands and slamming it against a tree. Red berries scattered on the ground.
In no time, the snake was dead in Miguel's hands.
He threw the snake away and picked up the berries. "Eat these to stay hydrated. Hang in there; there's a village ahead."
"Thanks."
The image of Miguel catching the snake with his bare hands stuck with Pearl. She didn't expect him to have such skills.
Living in this environment for so long, he must be good at survival.
In this kind of forest, a venomous snake bite would be fatal!
Even though Pearl wasn't bitten, she was still shaking with fear.
She forced herself to eat two of the small red berries. They started sweet but turned bitter, and she couldn't eat any more.
Miguel said, "Keep up and walk faster; there are venomous snakes here."
"Okay," Pearl replied, not daring to relax.
They walked for over an hour before Miguel led her out of the forest.
As Miguel had said, there was a village not far from the forest exit.
This village was different from the last one. The houses were made of mud, but there were chickens, ducks, and vegetable gardens around.
People were selling things from cars at the entrance.
Miguel led her over.
He negotiated with Juan Morales in a language she didn't understand.
After a while, Miguel said, "We can stay here, but I have no money. My hand's injured, so you can work with the villagers to dig up medicinal herbs for pay."
"I have money," Pearl said, surprised that Miguel seemed to have sold her out. But she had come prepared.
She had Barbara exchange money for the local currency.
"Even better."
Miguel threw this at Pearl and then spoke to Juan.
Miguel said, "Pay him first."
Pearl took out a 100 Eldorians bill from her pocket.
Juan accepted it with satisfaction.
Miguel said, "Juan said 100 Eldorians covers ten days. But if you're going after RavenWing, take me with you."
"RavenWing? Louis Mitchell here knows RavenWing people. If you want to find them, talk to Mr. Mitchell," Juan said, having overheard.
Miguel was surprised, his face changing. He asked in the local language, "You speak English? Are you working for RavenWing?"
Miguel clenched his fists, and Pearl noticed.
She didn't say anything.
Though she didn't understand the language, she sensed tension between Miguel and Juan.
Juan replied, "We don't work for RavenWing. RavenWing is a good person who helps us unconditionally."
"That's impossible!" Miguel couldn't believe it.
Everyone in his village had been killed by RavenWing, and all the valuable things had been looted by them.
If RavenWing were so good, how could he allow his men to do such things?
He had seen RavenWing command people to blow up an entire village!
"Why not? We're living well now, thanks to RavenWing, who taught us about medicinal plants, and we sell medicine to Tranquiloria. Otherwise, we would've starved."
Miguel fell silent, but he didn't believe it.
Soon, Juan led Miguel and Pearl to his house, which was a small mud house, but warmly decorated inside.
Juan pointed to a room for Miguel. "You can sleep there. If you're hungry, ask my mom, Camila, to cook for you."
Miguel just nodded.
After Juan left, Pearl asked Miguel, "What did you say to him?"
Miguel's reaction hadn't escaped Pearl, who sensed Juan had said something unbelievable.
Miguel was silent for a while, then repeated Juan's words to Pearl verbatim.
