Chapter 245 Someone Can't Control His Wife
Pearl and Magdalen walked arm in arm.
Magdalen was fuming, having cursed Oscar a hundred times already.
Pearl said, "Magdalen, I'm here with you. You won't be alone."
"You mentioned that you preferred a son, I disagree. Look at Oscar, the only heir of the Brown family, and all he does is make me mad. Now he doesn't even take me seriously," Magdalen complained, getting angrier by the second.
Pearl tried to calm her down. "Maybe Oscar has some reasons he can't talk about?"
"That's nonsense!" Magdalen snapped. "I don't want to talk about him anymore. Let's just get out of here, the farther away, the better!"
She didn't want to stay in the hospital any longer.
"I just talked to the doctor. Hearing loss can be caused by someone," Pearl said, still worried.
There were rumors online accusing Magdalen of causing Haley's hearing loss. Netizens were harshly criticizing her. They needed to find the truth to clear her name.
Magdalen's attention shifted. "Do you think Haley made herself deaf?"
"It sounds crazy, but yeah, that's what I think," Pearl admitted. "But why would Haley do that to herself?"
The doctor said Haley's hearing loss had a very slim chance of recovery. The cost was so high that if she were Haley, she would never choose this path. Plus, Haley had now lost her memory.
"She did it to gain sympathy."
Pearl asked again, "To gain sympathy, why would she need to lose her hearing? Wouldn't there be easier ways?"
Magdalen thought about it. "You're right, it doesn't make sense."
Just then, Adrian arrived to pick up Pearl and saw Magdalen cursing. He greeted her, "Hey there."
Seeing Adrian, Magdalen asked, "Pearl, who's this?"
"My friend, Adrian," Pearl introduced.
Magdalen said with a knowing look, "I think he's more than that."
"We're just friends," Adrian replied kindly.
Magdalen patted Pearl's hand. "I won't oppose it, Pearl. Don't feel sorry for me just because I'm Oscar's aunt. With Oscar's behavior, even if he marries eight wives, they'd all leave. It's not just you; I can't stand him either. Just kick him out and let him regret it!"
Magdalen was so mad at Oscar that her words were sharp and bitter. She wished Oscar had no wife at this moment!
Pearl explained, "Magdalen, it's not as complicated as you think. We were classmates in middle school."
"You've known each other longer than you've known Oscar," Magdalen pointed out. "You drove here, right? Just take me and Pearl with you."
"Alright," Adrian agreed readily.
They didn't know where to go. Pearl's apartment wasn't safe; she feared reporters or others might come, which could be dangerous. Magdalen didn't want to return to her own place either. The villa was under the name of the Brown Group, and now she was disgusted even by her own name. It was better to go somewhere else where she could be happier.
Since they had no place to go, Adrian suggested, "Come to my place."
Both of them looked at Adrian.
Adrian said softly, "My place is very secure. You can rest assured that no one will find you. It's spacious, and no one lives there usually, so you don't need to fear being disturbed."
Before Pearl could respond, Magdalen said, "Alright, Adrian, you're a good friend. I'll be your friend. Today you helped me, and in the future, if you need anything, just ask. I'll help without hesitation."
Adrian replied, "It's just a small favor, you don't need to keep it in mind."
"If I don't remember, then I'd be heartless," Magdalen, being a generous person, responded.
Adrian didn't hesitate. "Alright then, I'll consider you my friend too."
No barriers stood between them.
They soon arrived at Adrian's place.
The house was a spacious flat with 24/7 security downstairs.
"What do you think?" Adrian asked.
Magdalen said, "It's great, Adrian. We're not picky."
"Then you can stay here tonight. I used to live here, so there are some things that need tidying up. It's a good chance to clean up today."
"Are we troubling you too much?" Pearl asked.
"Not at all. I was going to tidy up anyway. I've already called my assistant over," Adrian said, having anticipated their need for a new place.
He had prepared in advance.
"Alright then." Pearl looked at Magdalen and didn't refuse his kindness.
"Take a rest," Adrian said, quickly pouring them a glass of water.
"Do you want some milk?" Adrian asked Pearl.
Pearl replied, "No, water is fine."
"You're pregnant now. Drinking some milk would be good. If not now, you should drink some before bed. I'll remind you then," Adrian said with concern.
Pearl sipped the water and nodded. "Okay, I'll keep that in mind."
Magdalen watched them and could see that Adrian liked Pearl very much.
Although she blamed Oscar and was angry with him, even speaking ill of him to Pearl, the thought of Pearl becoming someone else's made her anxious for Oscar.
No matter how bad Oscar was, he was still her family. Though she said she wouldn't stop Pearl from divorcing Oscar, deep down, she didn't want them to separate.
Thinking this, Magdalen walked over and sat between them. "What are you two talking about? Count me in, don't be secretive."
At the same time, she sent a message to Oscar.
She didn't want to talk, just sent a candid photo.
Oscar received the photo from an anonymous number, but it was an easy guess. From the angle and timing, it could only be Magdalen and Pearl together.
Seeing the photo of Pearl with Adrian, his face immediately darkened.
He gripped his phone tightly.
Harold returned, "Mr. Brown, Ms. Garcia has been taken care of."
Oscar responded with a nod but couldn't help sending a message back. [Keep an eye on them!]
When Magdalen received the message, she couldn't help but mutter, "Thinking about how you treated me earlier, I won't help you watch your wife."
"Magdalen, what are you saying?" Pearl asked, seeing her muttering to herself.
Magdalen looked up abruptly. "Nothing!"
She put her phone down and smiled. "I was saying someone can't control his wife; he deserves to get divorced!"
"Who are you talking about?" Pearl didn't understand.
"Never mind, don't worry about it."
"You two chat, I'll go check if everything is tidied up," Adrian said, getting up and heading to the study.
His assistant was tidying up.
Just then, an old newspaper fell out of the books.
The assistant asked, "Mr. Egan, there's an old newspaper here. Looks like it's been here for several years. Should I take it as well?"
Adrian, standing at the door, asked, "Is it the one with the kidnapping news?"
The assistant glanced at it, "Yes, it's on the front page."
"Take it. This newspaper marks the beginning of my relationship with Pearl."
The assistant looked at it again, "You mean with Ms. Harris?"
"Yes, it was only six months later that I found out what she had been through. I was so worried that I hurried back to see her with that newspaper in hand."
The assistant found it strange and read the news carefully. "Mr. Egan, could the newspaper have made a mistake? The girl named Pearl in this article shouldn't be Ms. Harris."
