Chapter 338 Targeting

Penelope's words grabbed everyone's attention.

She said their show couldn't be aired on TV, which really shook everyone's confidence.

Eileen, sobering up, quickly walked over. "Penelope, what do you mean? Did the show not pass the review?"

Penelope looked grim. "They said our theme is too dark for TV. We've worked so hard; we can't just give up. I need to find out what's going on; I am not resigned to give up without a fight!"

They were all counting on the TV broadcast.

Hearing it couldn't be aired was a huge blow.

They were struggling to accept it.

"I'll go with you," Pearl said, staying calm despite the panic around her. She had anticipated challenges.

Things weren't hopeless yet; there was still a chance.

Penelope just had very high expectations, who always aimed high.

From the start, she wanted the show on TV.

Penelope frowned, knowing they were banking on this show for a comeback.

If it couldn't be aired, it would be a huge loss.

Feeling the weight of everyone's expectations, she had to fight for it.

Pearl noticed Penelope's agitation and tried to comfort her, "Don't worry, we'll find a way!"

Penelope replied, "How can I not worry? It's not just you, but Eileen and all the actors. We've put so much into this; we're almost broke!"

"The higher the expectations, the greater the disappointment. We're not at the worst-case scenario yet."

Penelope looked at her. "No, my expectations are very high. Didn't you say you were relying on this show to support your child? You've spent so much money; there has to be a return. If it can't be aired, I'll feel guilty too. 'Glory' has to be on TV to be complete!"

She had many obsessions.

When Penelope committed to something, she wanted it to be the best.

The show being on TV was the only way to make their efforts worthwhile.

Pearl understood Penelope's feelings well. She held her hand and smiled. "I believe in you."

These words boosted Penelope's confidence.

She hugged Pearl tightly, choking up a bit, "Thank you, Pearl. You've always been a source of warmth for me!"

Pearl patted her back, offering silent support.

The car stopped at the TV station entrance, and Pearl reminded her, "Alright, we're here. Let's go."

Penelope took a deep breath, dabbed her teary eyes, and checked her reflection in a compact mirror. Once she was sure she looked presentable, she stepped out of the car.

The TV station was huge; it took them ten minutes to reach the office building.

Inside, a large screen played classic film ads every day.

They took the elevator straight to the station manager's office.

"Ms. Vargas, Ms. Harris, Mr. Hughes is in a meeting. You'll have to wait a bit," the assistant said politely.

"Alright, we can wait. How long will it be?" Penelope asked.

"I don't know."

There was a waiting area outside. When they sat on the sofa, someone immediately came to pour water.

Station Manager Beckham Hughes—Pearl had met him twice before.

He had a good relationship with Oscar.

But for a show to get approved, it needed the whole committee's consent.

Pearl couldn't understand why their show couldn't be aired on TV.

They had followed all the guidelines, avoiding negative influences, and the content was positive.

After waiting for half an hour, the office door finally opened.

As soon as a crack appeared, she sensed someone inside.

"Beckham, I must treat you to a meal someday," Haley said with a smile. "I have to thank you properly."

She never missed a chance to get close to important people.

"Sure, if Oscar is there, I'll definitely come!" Beckham's words showed he respected Oscar.

Oscar shook hands with Beckham, speaking softly, "Haley is one of my artists. We'll need your help in the future."

Beckham laughed. "Is Haley an artist or your girlfriend? Oscar, you're still hiding things from me. You have been personally handling this, I understand."

Haley felt a bit embarrassed but stayed gracious. "Beckham, you have a keen eye. When Oscar and I get married, you must come!"

She said this while holding Oscar's arm.

"Of course."

They walked out together, and besides Haley and Oscar, the director of "Echoes of the Enchanted Realm" was also there.

"Beckham, Haley is very hardworking and excellent in acting. She has a bright future!" the director praised.

Beckham smiled. "I know, she has both talent and luck on her side."

Beckham was having a pleasant conversation with the "Echoes of the Enchanted Realm" team.

Meanwhile, Penelope and Pearl, who had waited for half an hour, seemed to be ignored.

No matter what, Penelope had to fight for a chance, so she called out, "Beckham!"

The manager turned to look at Penelope, recognizing her immediately. "Penelope, you've been waiting for quite a while, haven't you?"

Penelope said, "I just want to ask why our show can't be aired on TV. Can you give us a chance?"

Beckham looked a bit troubled but didn't speak.

"Beckham," Pearl stepped forward, greeting him warmly. "Long time no see, you look younger!"

Beckham, about sixty years old, had few gray hairs and a fit body, looking like he was in his forties.

Hearing Pearl's compliment, Beckham laughed, "Pearl, you always know what to say. Oscar certainly trained you well."

He actually intended to avoid the topic, but Pearl continued, "I've learned a lot from Mr. Brown over the years. But now, I'm not with Mr. Brown anymore; I'm partners with Penelope."

This surprised Beckham. "You and Penelope are partners now?"

He looked at Oscar, smiling. "What a coincidence that you are all coming together in different fields!"

Pearl added, "Today, I have to ask you why our show can't be aired on TV. The phone call wasn't clear, but we really want an answer."

Beckham saw that both their crew members were present and didn't want to offend anyone, so he said, "It's a matter of the theme. Let's discuss it inside."

Just then, the director of "Echoes of the Enchanted Realm" spoke up, "A female-led show with such violence is bound to be unsuitable for TV. Mr. Brown has foresight!"

Upon hearing this, Pearl couldn't help but look at Oscar.

His gaze wasn't on her; it was cold and distant. Pearl was utterly shocked that Oscar had targeted her in this matter.
