Chapter 378 Go Off
Hearing her voice, Oscar quickly let go of her.
Pearl's wrist turned red instantly.
She stared at her hand, shocked. 'How did Oscar get so strong?'
She glared at him, her face grim.
Oscar looked at her hand, guilt all over his face. "I'm sorry," he said, but it sounded weak. He hadn't meant to hurt her.
He didn't realize he'd used so much force.
Pearl was already mad about Haley, whose involvement in their relationship was something she couldn't stand.
Now, Oscar had hurt her too.
Pearl didn't accept his apology. "What's the point of saying sorry? You still did it. I don't like this. I don't belong here."
She decided to leave; it wasn't her house anyway.
They were still divorced. She couldn't kick him out, so she had to go.
But after a few steps, Oscar called out, "You're pregnant. It's inconvenient for you. You stay, I'll leave."
Pearl stopped and looked back.
Oscar didn't look up and walked away without hesitation.
Pearl watched him go, frowning. She didn't expect him to leave without explaining.
If he cared, shouldn't he try to comfort her?
Even if she didn't believe him, he could explain until she did.
Even though he hurt her, he could still ask for forgiveness. Even if she said she was leaving, he should've tried harder to calm her down.
'What does he mean by leaving me behind? Does he not want to let go of Haley?'
Pearl hoped Oscar would stop and look back.
But he didn't. He walked out without looking back.
Pearl felt both angry and sad. It shouldn't be like this.
Looking at the red mark on her wrist, she felt even more disheartened.
Why did Oscar have to treat her this way?
Her eyes reddened, and she felt a lump in her throat.
Oscar, outside, realized something was wrong with him.
He couldn't control his emotions anymore.
Even if he didn't want to get angry at Pearl, he couldn't help it.
He would eventually hurt her and the baby, so he had to stay away for their sake.
Jeffery had told him: the poison wouldn't kill him, but it would cause big problems.
Like going mad.
Now he could still act normal, but in the future, he might become a beast, hurting people and not recognizing anyone.
He wondered what would happen if he didn't recognize Pearl.
The thought was terrifying.
Oscar stared at his hands. One day, they might hurt the people he cared about most.
That's why he thought of leaving.
To avoid disputes and prevent worse actions.
Oscar clenched his fists. "Let's go."
"Where to?" Elijah could see Oscar's disappointment.
Oscar had a lot to do. Before losing his sanity, he had to arrange everything. With a cold face, he said, "Let's catch Haley again."
Elijah was stunned for a moment, then pursed his lips.
Meanwhile, Haley was at an event.
She faced a storm of negative attacks, losing endorsements.
Despite this, she managed the crisis herself, issuing a statement.
In it, she claimed the accusations were false and defamatory, and she would hold those responsible accountable, attaching a lawyer's letter to regain some dignity.
But this incident put a halt to many of her gigs.
No matter how tough it got, she had to bounce back.
With no options at home, she had to go abroad.
Luckily, the scandal was still fresh, and she wasn't banned yet, so she could attend a gaming event.
She planned to cosplay some famous game characters, hoping for more exposure.
Haley was smart. She knew how to create buzz. At every event, she aimed to be the center of attention.
This time was no different.
Meanwhile, she was waiting for good news from Hathaway.
Pearl made her life hard, so she wouldn't let Pearl off easy!
Hathaway must have gone by now.
If Hathaway could handle this, she could relax.
After so many incidents, Haley learned her lesson. She couldn't do bad things herself.
If caught, it would be fatal.
She wouldn't survive in the entertainment industry.
She had to use someone else.
Anything that benefited her, she couldn't let go.
But after waiting a while, Samuel Rodriguez came in and told her Hathaway had been sent to the police station.
Haley's face changed. "How is that possible? She's Oscar's mother. Even if she did something, she couldn't end up in jail!"
"That's the reality. Oscar won't protect her anymore. For Pearl's sake, he didn't even spare Hathaway."
"Useless!" Haley's support was gone, and she panicked.
She could only curse to vent her frustration.
"Ms. Garcia, you need to be careful," Samuel reminded her. "In this situation, no one can help you anymore. You can only protect yourself."
Haley didn't say anything. She knew she was at a dead end.
The people who could help her were gone one by one.
Her once beautiful life had suddenly plunged into the abyss.
Samuel didn't want to attract attention or get into trouble, so he left immediately after speaking.
Haley's hands were shaking. She didn't know what to do next.
Looking at her reflection in the mirror, she remembered she was working.
She still had a chance.
She could still rely on her beauty and the fans' affection to start over.
Haley told herself she had to succeed this time. She had to win people's love to stay in the entertainment industry for a long time.
Thinking this, the anger on her face faded, leaving only a fake smile.
She called the makeup artist in, acting as if nothing had happened. "Make me look stunning, fitting the character, something that grabs attention the moment I appear!"
The makeup artist followed her request and continued doing her makeup.
The event started, and there were many influencers all cosplaying.
There were a lot of people on site. When they saw their favorite characters, they would scream excitedly.
It was clear the event was very popular.
Haley was backstage. Besides the influencers, she was the only celebrity.
If it were before, she would have looked down on this, thinking attending such events was beneath her.
But she was the finale.
This time, she wore the friendliest smile. After the host's introduction, she walked out from backstage.
Even if they were influencers, as long as the audience liked them, they would cheer enthusiastically.
However, when Haley came out, despite the host's enthusiastic introduction, the audience was silent.
Haley still greeted everyone gracefully.
The audience questioned, "With Haley's bad reputation, why would you invite her? Isn't this inviting someone with a criminal record?"
"Get off the stage! Get off!"
