Chapter 519 What's So Hard to Admit?
Until the test results were in and RavenWing finished the surgery, no one could touch Matteo.
Oscar held Pearl's hand. "Don't worry, I'm here."
Even without saying it, Pearl knew Oscar would always be there.
Three hours later, the lab doors finally opened.
RavenWing came out first.
Jeffery followed, pushing Christopher on a gurney. Christopher's pale face stood out against the blue oxygen mask.
"How is he?" Pearl asked, her legs shaking.
"The surgery went well. He'll wake up once the anesthesia wears off. We need to monitor him, but he should recover soon."
Pearl couldn't hold back her tears. "That's amazing!"
Her Christopher could finally live normally.
Pearl's focus was entirely on Christopher.
But Louis remembered Matteo. Giovanni reported, "Mr. Mitchell, it's a life-saving medicine. Even without regular use, it calms the nerves."
So Matteo meant well.
Louis ordered Giovanni, "What are you waiting for? Pull our people off Matteo now!"
"Yes," Giovanni replied and left quickly.
RavenWing got the gist from their brief chat.
Even though Matteo was loyal, being cautious around Pearl and Christopher was smart.
RavenWing was pleased. "Caution is good. I'm exhausted. Eldorians is in your hands now."
RavenWing leaned against the wall, exhaling deeply.
He'd been working non-stop in the lab to save Christopher, testing medicines and staying up all night. Now, he could finally rest.
Louis noticed RavenWing's fatigue. "Don't scare us! Pearl has finally accepted you. She even agreed to a recognition banquet. You can't miss it."
RavenWing smiled, relieved.
The banquet and his survival didn't matter.
He just wanted Pearl to be happy and Christopher to be healthy.
He didn't respond.
Jeffery had just settled Christopher in his room when Giovanni came. "Mr. Gray, Mr. Mitchell wants to see you."
The Eldorians now recognized Jeffery's status.
Louis even considered keeping Jeffery in Eldorians instead of letting him wander in Serenea.
Pearl sensed something was off. She frowned at Giovanni. "Is something wrong with my father?"
Though she hadn't called RavenWing "Father" to his face, she did when talking to others.
Giovanni hesitated, but Pearl cut him off. "Giovanni, if you don't tell me, I'll go myself."
"Yes," Giovanni had no choice but to tell her the truth.
Oscar patted her shoulder. "You go see RavenWing. I'll stay with Christopher."
Pearl didn't say a word and hurried her pace.
When she arrived, RavenWing was lying on the bed with Jeffery examining him. Louis had already had others check on RavenWing before Jeffery got there.
RavenWing had fainted from overwork and was extremely weak from testing medicines.
Louis trusted Jeffery the most.
Jeffery quickly saw that RavenWing had collapsed from exhaustion due to his efforts for Christopher. As he treated RavenWing, he couldn't help but admire him.
RavenWing had gone to great lengths for Christopher, showing he truly cared for Pearl and was sincerely making amends.
Jeffery quickly prepared the medicine.
Pearl, anxious, asked, "Jeffery, how is my father?"
The word "father" seemed to have magic. Lying on the bed, RavenWing slowly opened his eyes.
Seeing Pearl, he was moved to tears. "Carol, did you just call me Father?"
Though his voice was slow, he was sobbing by the end.
"Yes."
At this moment, Pearl had no reason to deny it.
Meanwhile, Louis signaled to Jeffery.
Jeffery understood and said, "RavenWing's condition is due to overwork, and his body is very weak from testing medicines. He needs to rest."
Pearl couldn't hold back her tears.
RavenWing had done so much for her.
Maybe, as Louis said, he was ruthless and murderous, but he was a good father.
And in the past five years, Eldorians had changed.
RavenWing had changed too.
"Father."
Pearl cried out in pain.
RavenWing embraced her. At that moment, all the hardships were worth it. For Pearl to call him "Father", even if he died, it would be worth it.
In the following days, Pearl took care of both RavenWing and Christopher, personally cooking nutritious meals.
Because RavenWing had treated Christopher, they spent the most time together. And since Pearl had accepted RavenWing, Christopher naturally called him "Grandpa."
Their room was filled with laughter every day, and RavenWing's face was full of warmth.
Christopher's health improved day by day.
Soon, it was Christopher's birthday.
RavenWing and Louis scheduled the recognition banquet for that day.
RavenWing oversaw everything, down to the arrangement of every chair at the venue. He had Louis issue an order for all Eldorians to celebrate the recognition banquet.
RavenWing publicly acknowledged Pearl's identity in front of everyone.
However, some people questioned, "Since Ms. Mitchell is still alive, why is the recognition banquet only now? What about the previous Ms. Mitchell? She was brought back by Mr. Garcia. They say Mr. Garcia betrayed Eldorians, but he also did a lot for us!"
"We don't understand your plan, nor can we guess it. But it's always been that whatever you say, we are required to do, including the war five years ago."
"You always want to be above us. I think the leader of Eldorians should be replaced. Why not hold a new election? Let everyone have a chance to be the leader! Instead of being ruled by your family alone!"
