Chapter 233 She Had a Moment of Weakness

Haley's eyes widened in shock and she hurled her phone to the ground with anger.

Mae walked in just in time to see the scene. "Haley, what's going on? Why are you so mad?"

The phone kept ringing, but Haley was too consumed by the news of Pearl's pregnancy to care.

'Whose baby is Pearl carrying? How did this happen? Weren't Pearl and Oscar supposed to be just friends?'

Haley's fists clenched so tight her knuckles turned white. When Mae tried to comfort her, Haley shoved her away. "Don't touch me!"

Mae was taken aback.

Seeing it was Mae, Haley's fierce expression softened, replaced by tears. She looked like she'd been wronged.

Mae tried to console her. "Haley, don't be sad."

Haley, tears streaming down her face, buried herself in Mae's arms. "Why isn't he satisfied? I've done everything for him. Has he forgotten all I've done?"

Mae, seeing Haley so upset, couldn't bring herself to blame Pearl.

When Pearl was wheeled out of the operating room, Oscar jumped up and rushed to her side. Seeing her pale face, he asked the doctor, "When will she wake up? Why does she look so bad? Is the baby okay?"

The doctor, unsure which question to answer first, explained patiently, "The baby was almost lost, but fortunately ,we save it. She needs rest and nutrition; she's too thin, which isn't good for the baby."

Oscar finally relaxed a bit. "Thank you, doctor. I'll take good care of her."

After getting Pearl settled in her room, Oscar sat by her side, holding her hand and kissing it gently.

Harold watched Oscar with Pearl and realized how much she meant to him.

All that talk about divorce and court was just anger. If something happened to Pearl, Oscar would be the most worried.

Haley sighed.

When would Pearl and Oscar make up?

Oscar knew he cared deeply for Pearl.

He didn't know when his feelings had shifted, but now he couldn't look away. He was terrified of losing her.

It felt like a knife through his heart.

"Pearl, we're not getting divorced."

After this scare, Oscar didn't want to let her go. He was afraid she wouldn't take care of herself, as the doctor said she was too thin and overworked.

In a hoarse voice, he said, "From now on, I'll take good care of you."

But Haley heard those words.

Outside the room, wearing sunglasses, Haley saw everything.

The tenderness Oscar showed Pearl was something Haley had never experienced.

Oscar had given Haley everything she wanted, but she thought it was because he had feelings for her.

Now Haley realized it was just her fantasy.

He was just guilt.

Haley's hands clenched tightly. The better Oscar treated Pearl, the more her heart felt like it was being torn apart, leaving only coldness.

If Oscar wanted to give Haley everything, why not his love?

What she wanted most was him!

She cried silently, her gaze icy, taking it all in.

Since he felt guilty, she'd make him feel guilty forever, a debt he could never repay.

Haley took one last look and left quietly.

Pearl woke up in the middle of the night.

Her finger moved slightly, and she realized someone was holding her hand.

Pearl opened her eyes and saw Oscar holding her hand tightly, even in his sleep.

His hair was a mess, and he looked exhausted.

He clearly hadn't slept well.

The usually immaculate Oscar even had stubble growing.

Seeing this, Pearl paused.

A flood of emotions hit her all at once.

After a while, Harold came in, carrying a bunch of stuff.

"Mrs. Brown is awake," Harold whispered.

Pearl nodded slightly.

Looking at the sleeping Oscar, Harold continued, "Mr. Brown stayed up all night watching over you. I told him to get some sleep, but he insisted on staying by your side. He only fell asleep this morning."

Pearl cleared her throat, feeling like something was stuck in it, and hoarsely asked, "The baby..."

Harold replied, "The baby is safe. It's a good thing the baby is still here; otherwise, you and Mr. Brown would be over. The moment you went into the operating room, Mr. Brown was very anxious about you and the baby. He was afraid that if the baby was lost, you would hate him!"

Pearl instinctively looked at Oscar's face and asked again, "Does he really think that way?"

Harold placed the items on the table and continued, "I wouldn't lie to you. Don't you believe me? Mr. Brown is worried about you. Even if the baby isn't his, he really wanted you to terminate the pregnancy. But if you didn't want to, he wouldn't force you. He's also afraid that one misstep will lead to irreparable damage to your relationship."

Pearl had many concerns.

She didn't tell Oscar because she was afraid he wouldn't accept her child.

After all, he had warned her from the beginning.

If he found out, he could be ruthless, and Pearl wouldn't be able to resist him.

Moreover, divorcing him with a child in between was more complicated than him not knowing.

Pearl believed that as long as she worked hard, she could support the child.

Even when she was about to lose the baby, she still didn't want to trust him.

He hadn't given her the unwavering trust she needed.

She also feared that Oscar would take the opportunity to terminate her pregnancy.

Until she woke up and saw him watching over her by the bedside, her feeling for him, which had gone, rekindleda little.

Pearl closed her eyes, feeling a deep self-loathing for her own softness.

But if she weren't soft, she wouldn't have stayed by his side for so many years.

Seeing Pearl's troubled expression and her face even paler than before, Harold asked, "Mrs. Brown, I think you should talk to Mr. Brown about your concerns. He's not an unreasonable person."

"Can I really do that?"

Pearl still had doubts. She was afraid that if she told him, she would have no way out.

Reason told her she shouldn't spend too much time on Oscar.

"You and Mr. Brown are still married; you are husband and wife. Husbands and wives should be honest with each other. If Mr. Brown can't do that, then I won't say anything more," Harold said, trying to give Oscar a chance.

Pearl's hand moved slightly, and Oscar immediately sensed it and woke up. "Pearl!"

The first thing Oscar did upon waking was call Pearl's name.

Seeing that she was awake, the dark depths of Oscar's eyes seemed to ripple. "You're awake. Does it still hurt?"

His hand rested on Pearl's stomach.

Pearl felt the warmth of his palm and saw the red veins in his eyes. She had never seen him so vividly before.

She felt Oscar was very close, within reach.

She remained silent for a long time.

"The doctor said you're too thin and need to pay attention to your nutrition. You should take care of yourself." Oscar's voice was hoarse, but his concern for Pearl was evident.

Not trusting Oscar, she decided to trust Harold this once. She took his hand and placed it on her stomach, her eyes filled with unspoken tenderness.
