Chapter 126 Who Called the Police

"The company has matters to attend to. Once Arthur's affairs are settled, it's best not to delay work."
Oscar's words brooked no argument.
Pearl also had another identity, that is Oscar's secretary.
Even when detached from life, she must work diligently.
For Pearl, work wouldn't last much longer, today seemed like the last day.
It was still necessary to complete the month's work. If Pearl didn't show up for work, her pay would be deducted.
After a few days in her hometown, Pearl's vacation came to an end.
Upon leaving the Brown Group, she would embark on a new job, requiring careful planning for the future.
After much deliberation, Pearl finally agreed.
"Alright, Mr. Brown."
Upon hearing the satisfactory answer, Oscar shifted his gaze forward.
Pearl followed behind Oscar.
Oscar and Pearl continued to maintain their professional relationship as usual, devoid of their spousal identities.
With just a glance, Oscar could convey his needs to Pearl, who promptly fulfilled them.
This was one aspect that pleased Oscar.
In this world, only Pearl could satisfy Oscar's work requirements.
Oscar and Pearl arrived at the hospital.
Pearl knew that Oscar would definitely visit Haley.
During this impending divorce period, Haley and Oscar needed to cultivate their relationship.
Coincidentally, Haley wasn't on set, providing ample time.
Silence filled the journey upstairs in the elevator.
Upon reaching the ward, Haley's wounds had been bandaged, but the doctor mentioned she had suffered psychological trauma and required counseling.
A psychologist was summoned to provide Haley with mental support.
Haley was in need of comfort from the start.
Seeing Oscar's serious demeanor, Pearl felt a tinge of fear that Haley might be harmed again.
Pearl had known beforehand that Haley was fragile, battling depression and physical ailments.
This only evoked more sympathy.
After the doctor's detailed instructions, Haley remained in a state of anxiety.
Sitting there in her thin hospital gown, Haley's slender frame and delicate features exuded vulnerability.
Not just Oscar, even Pearl felt a pang of sympathy watching Haley.
Observing Haley's distress, Oscar inquired, "Wasn't there a security guard present at the time?"
Mae explained, "Seraphina came to see Haley and Haley thought she was just visiting for fun. They had met a few times, and Haley thought she was young and alone here, feeling sorry for her, so she let her in. She didn't expect Seraphina to harm her."
Oscar furrowed his brow and coldly asked, "Wasn't there a standoff for over ten minutes? Wasn't there anyone around for that long? In the end, it wasn't you but Seraphina accidentally fall?"
"In the room, there were only Haley and Seraphina. I thought it was just a harmless chat, didn't think much of it. As for the security guards, that day Haley had sent them all away," Mae recounted the events of that day, her voice trembling slightly, fearing Oscar's reproach.
As Haley's assistant, Mae hadn't been very effective in a critical moment.
"Who called the police?" Oscar inquired again, "The police arrived so quickly."
Given the speed of the police response, someone must have called before the incident occurred.
Mae hesitated and remained silent.
She didn't know who had called the police, but they had arrived promptly.
Mae knew that Haley had been trapped, and she had heard police cars.
"I called the police." Haley said softly, tears streaming down uncontrollably, wiping them with a tissue, "Seraphina was already out of her mind, she said some strange things to me, claiming she had done many things and the police were coming to arrest her and put her in jail."
Haley's gaze shifted towards Pearl at the door and she said, "Pearl, I only found out from Seraphina that she was the one who killed Arthur. Don't be too sad. She even kidnapped you. This woman is wicked. How could I let her escape? I called the police right away!"
"She wanted to kill me only after seeing me call the police!" Haley's expression was one of fear.
Pearl, initially just an accompanying figure, had no intention of speaking, but Haley mentioned her.
According to Haley, who knew the culprit was Seraphina and had reported it, Pearl had to be grateful to Haley.
If only the situation were that simple.
As Pearl stepped forward, she couldn't remain silent any longer and questioned, "Can you clarify my doubts? Why did Seraphina say those things in front of you? If you were close with her, she wouldn't want to harm you. If you weren't familiar, why did she come to you? You mentioned she was out of her mind. Did you say something to trigger her?"
Haley hesitated, lacking a convincing explanation for why Seraphina sought her out.
Lowering her head, Haley's words became muddled, she said, "I don't know either. Maybe we met a few times, and she wanted to hang out with me? Or perhaps she held a grudge against me. I don't know."
Shaking her head, Haley said in excitement, "I truly don't understand why she came to me. She accidentally fell, bleeding profusely. My head hurts terribly."
"It hurts so much, I can't bear it."
Clutching her ears, Haley was consumed by pain.
Pearl bit her lip, realizing that Haley, in her current state, couldn't handle any more questions.
"Haley! Haley!" Mae fretted, rushing over to check on her. She couldn't afford to lose her temper in front of Oscar, so she complained, "Pearl, can't you ease up a bit? Haley is a victim who nearly died, yet you're interrogating her like a criminal. How can she handle this? The doctor said she might suffer from stress, which isn't good for her health."
"Enough!" Oscar interrupted Mae's words.
