Chapter 882 Gains and Losses
Oscar's recommendation was Jeffery.
Jeffery was incredibly skilled. If it weren't for Jeffery and Quincy performing the surgery on Benjamin, he wouldn't have recovered so quickly.
"I'm not sick." Nathaniel refused to admit he had any psychological issues.
Oscar's voice was low and raspy, "Those four years you spent in therapy, I get why you feel this way. Like Harold said, you can't deny her excellence. She belongs to everyone; you can't just keep her to yourself. Besides, you're not some controlling CEO forcing love. You've only been married for a short while; don't let a small issue cause a rift."
Nathaniel understood Oscar's words.
But how could he describe his feelings at that moment?
Frustrated, stifled.
He wanted Saskia to be exceptional and respected by everyone, yet he also wanted her to shine only for him.
In the end, Nathaniel got drunk.
Saskia had just returned from a business trip that night.
Seeing Oscar bring a drunken Nathaniel home, she was immediately worried, "Oscar, thanks so much for bringing him back."
"No problem. You two need to talk."
Oscar's words made Saskia understand instantly.
She couldn't help but laugh at the same time.
How could Nathaniel be so childish, like a teenager?
She called the housekeeper to help move Nathaniel upstairs, then she took off his shoes and loosened his tie.
She patiently took care of him, even though she was exhausted. She stayed by his side, afraid he might throw up.
Unexpectedly, Nathaniel suddenly pulled her into his arms, kissing her and murmuring, "Saskia, I love you. I'm so afraid of losing you."
"I know."
Saskia patted his back.
"I'm scared that others will see how amazing you are, scared that you..."
"Fool, you're my husband, the father of our child. You're the only man I'll ever love. If I were interested in someone else, I would have accepted their advances over the past four years."
Some even expressed willingness to accept her and Benjamin.
But Saskia never took that step.
Nathaniel was the love of her life; she couldn't imagine being with anyone else.
"Will you always stay by my side? Saskia, I'm so afraid you'll leave."
"Of course, I'll always stay with you and our child. Nathaniel, don't overthink it. I love you."
They confessed their love to each other, but Nathaniel just held her tightly, doing nothing more.
Meanwhile, Oscar...
Even when hanging out with friends, Oscar knew his limits and never drank too much. He had to come home and hold his daughter, who was only a few months old. The smell of alcohol would irritate her.
Since having their second child, Pearl's sense of smell had become incredibly sensitive.
"Why did you go out drinking again? Didn't you say no more socializing?"
"I did say that. This wasn't socializing; I was drinking with Nathaniel. He's thinking about having a second child with Saskia, but she's busy with her career. He's feeling insecure."
Pearl didn't find it ridiculous. Only those who had deeply loved someone understood how painful insecurity could be.
"It's normal. He'll get over it. But if he wants a second child, you better not start thinking about a third or fourth. We don't need too many kids, and I don't have the energy."
"I know."
Oscar had considered it, but he respected Pearl's wishes.
As their children grew, Christopher was doing well. He had only been in school for a few days and was already praised by his teacher, which made Oscar very happy.
But Christopher always thought about RavenWing.
He got an Audrey Carroll flower and even placed it in RavenWing's room.
Pearl noticed and comforted him, "Christopher, don't be sad. Grandpa is now a star in the sky, watching over us. Next year, your aunt's baby will be born."
"But Mom, Grandpa said he would teach me to read and write when I started first grade. Grandpa..."
As Christopher spoke, tears began to fall.
When he was with Charles, Charles was very strict. But during his time with RavenWing in Willow Creek, RavenWing showered him with endless love, fulfilling all his wishes.
Christopher's health was weak, and RavenWing carefully nursed him, coaxing him to take bitter medicine and making delicious food for him. He took him out to play.
Christopher once asked RavenWing, "Grandpa, don't you want to go home?"
Because RavenWing's home was in Eldorians.
RavenWing patted Christopher's head, "Wherever you and your mom are, that's Grandpa's home. Grandpa made many mistakes before and was separated from your mom for many years. Now that she's finally with me, how could I go back to Eldorians? Besides, living here isn't bad."
RavenWing would do crafts with Christopher, raise chickens, and plant flowers and grass.
Now, besides his classmates, Benjamin would come over to play. Otherwise, he was mostly alone.
Pearl gently stroked Christopher's head, "Grandpa just went to another world. Everyone has a mission in this world, and everyone will die. I will die someday, and so will you. It's hard, but we have to accept death."
Who wanted to see their loved ones leave one by one? She wanted RavenWing to live, but his life had reached its end.
In his final moments, RavenWing had hallucinations, but he was content.
"Christopher, how about we visit Benjamin this weekend? Or during your summer break, I'll take you to Eldorians. It's developed a lot."
"Visiting Benjamin sounds good. But if we travel, what about my sister? I read on my tablet that flying can be hard for little kids."
Christopher had a tablet, but he wasn't addicted to it. He watched it for half an hour at home and then put it down. He didn't watch cartoons; he was interested in medicine, space, and astronomy.
Pearl never interfered because she believed having interests was good for children.
Pearl smiled, "It's just the takeoff and landing that can be uncomfortable. Otherwise, it's fine. I was planning to visit Eldorians anyway. Your aunt is still here, and I'm worried about her."
"Okay."
Christopher nodded. He wanted to visit the place where RavenWing had lived.
Back to Saskia.
Nathaniel woke up from his hangover in the afternoon, his head pounding as if someone was trying to split it open with a sledgehammer.
But when he turned his head, he saw Saskia.
"Aren't you on a business trip? When did you get back?"
