Chapter 580 Surprise

"I've seen folks like you all the time, but you're right. The whole child star gig only pays off for a few years. If you don't cash in now, when will you?" Cadence retorted.

She didn't even try to hide the disdain in her eyes, but Pearl didn't give her the time of day. Instead, she was busy chatting with Cheryl about where to grab a bite after the shoot, which made Cadence's blood boil.

Just as she was about to lose it, the director on the other side of the set started yelling, probably 'cause the actors were off their game. Cadence rushed over to sort it out.

Cheryl took the chance to whisper to Pearl, "Don't go head-to-head with her like that. It's not good for us. Pearl, seriously, don't pull that stunt again."

"Does it make things tough for you when I do that? I didn't think it through. I'll be more careful next time." Pearl watched Cadence sucking up to the director and couldn't help but find it hilarious, given her earlier attitude.

After the commercial shoot, Christopher officially jumped into the entertainment biz. According to Cheryl, to really make it big, he needed to get into TV dramas or variety shows.

Cheryl suggested hitting up a variety show, saying that being on TV a lot would help people remember him, which would be good for his career down the line.

Pearl figured since she already agreed to let Christopher dive into showbiz, she shouldn't be too picky and went along with Cheryl's plan.

When RavenWing found out Christopher was getting into the entertainment industry, he sent over a massive gift. It was a huge cardboard box that took two people to move. No one had a clue what was inside.

The box ended up in Christopher's room. With Pearl's okay, Christopher opened it. He grabbed a small stool, stood on it, and slowly peeled off the tape.

"Christopher." RavenWing popped out of the box, scaring the daylights out of Christopher.

Once he realized it was RavenWing, Christopher hugged him tight, shouting, "Grandpa!"

Pearl shook her head, smiling. "Dad, why'd you come over and give us such a surprise?"

"I'm just here for one night, won't be a bother. I missed Christopher so much." RavenWing scooped up Christopher and spun him around the room, instantly bonding.

They started playing together right away. Pearl, seeing how much RavenWing missed Christopher, didn't say anything more. She went downstairs to tell the maid to prep an extra dinner.

The sky looked a bit different tonight. RavenWing held Christopher on the rooftop, gazing at the stars. They didn't say a word, just communicated through their eyes, having a blast.

Christopher remembered something and whispered in RavenWing's ear, "Grandpa, I can make money now. When I earn enough, I'll buy you a big gift. Whatever you want, I'll get it for you."

RavenWing chuckled, "I don't need anything. As long as it's from you, I'll love it."

Christopher asked, "Really?"

"Absolutely. But remember, no matter what you do, always be polite. Be sweet to everyone you meet, okay?" RavenWing was actually worried that Christopher might face some tough times in the entertainment world.

Pearl wouldn't always be around to help Christopher out, so he needed to learn how to get along with people. The entertainment industry was a tricky place, and RavenWing was concerned that Christopher might struggle and get hurt.

Christopher seemed to get what RavenWing was saying and finally grinned, "Don't worry, Grandpa. I get it."

RavenWing added, "And always with a smile, okay?"

"Yes, sir." Christopher jumped into RavenWing's arms, laughing.

Laughter floated down from the rooftop, Pearl and Oscar exchanged knowing smiles.

"Last time you mentioned that a manager at the same company was giving Cheryl a hard time. Want me to handle it?" Oscar closed his laptop. "How about this? Tomorrow's the start of the variety show, right? I'll treat the whole crew to dinner in Christopher's name. Let's book a hotel downtown."

Pearl didn't want to spill the beans that Oscar was Christopher's dad, so she shook her head. "I can handle this, and we have Cheryl, don't we? As manager, she has to deal with these relationships. If she can't, it just shows she's not up to the task."

"I don't care about others' abilities. I don't want you to suffer." Oscar held her hand. "Babe, I know you're smart enough to handle this, but I want to be your support."

Pearl smiled and leaned in close. "Mr. Brown, feeling a bit left out, are you?"

Oscar's face stiffened, and he smiled awkwardly.

Pearl had been leaning on him less lately, handling things on her own. Even if she couldn't, she'd rather ask Magdalen than him, so yeah, he felt a bit hurt.

Pearl kissed him lightly and said with a smile, "Don't worry. It's not the right time yet for everyone to know you're Christopher's dad. Once Christopher has a solid fanbase, you'll get your moment."

Her words didn't really ease his mind, but seeing Pearl handle things so smoothly, Oscar didn't push it.

What no one saw coming was the company assigning Cadence as Christopher's temporary manager.

On the way to the filming location, Cheryl was on the phone with Pearl, explaining Cadence's quirks and what to watch out for in the variety show.

Pearl took it all in but didn't get why they couldn't be nice to Christopher in front of Cadence.

She straight-up asked, and Cheryl hesitated before quietly explaining, "I heard Cadence's kid isn't in good health, and she avoids talking about children. So, everyone at the company rarely mentions their kids around her."

Pearl got it and promised Cheryl, "Don't worry, I get it. You just focus on your work abroad and finish it quickly. I'm counting on you to make Christopher a big star."

Compared to Cheryl and Cadence, Pearl naturally chose Cheryl.

When she saw Cadence, Pearl was even more sure of her choice.

The sun was blazing that day, and Pearl had put a blue hat on Christopher that matched his sportswear perfectly.

As soon as Cadence saw Christopher, she freaked out, circling him and shaking her head. "What are you doing? Don't you know today's theme is the opening ceremony? Why dress him so childishly and put on this kiddie hat? From now on, you need to video call me every morning. I'll decide what Christopher wears each day."
