Chapter 856 What Does It Count For
Saskia knew that ever since Jade promised to stop meddling in her and Nathaniel's relationship, Jade had changed.
"I get it, I get it. You've been looking after Benjamin all this time," Saskia said, her eyes already red from crying.
Jade's voice cracked, "He's my grandson. I didn't do much before, but now it's my turn to take care of him. And this way, I feel a little less guilty."
Once Jade understood, she stopped interfering. But even after doing what she could, it felt like someone was constantly scraping her heart with a knife.
It was painful.
Jade regretted it every day.
Just now, she didn't think much.
Jade had only one thought: Saskia couldn't die.
Now, Saskia had to live a good life with Nathaniel.
"That's all in the past. We need to look forward. Nathaniel and I will take you to the hospital right now. Don't say anything more. You'll be fine," Saskia said, her voice choked and hoarse.
Even though Jade had interfered before, it was for Nathaniel. As a mother, she understood. If it were her, she might have done the same.
That was why, after meeting Pearl, she could talk to her and become good friends.
So, they quickly took Jade to the hospital.
Later, the police investigation revealed that the attacker was just out to get revenge on society. Nathaniel knew the law and had connections, ensuring the attacker would spend the rest of his life in prison.
At the hospital, Quincy Lee personally treated Jade. Fortunately, they got her there in time, and she wasn't in any life-threatening danger.
But Jade needed bed rest.
Nathaniel wanted to hire a nurse for her, but Saskia stopped him. "I'll take care of Mom."
Saskia felt that Jade had taken the knife for her.
If it weren't for Jade, she would have been the one injured, and Jade still had unresolved issues in her heart.
Now that she and Nathaniel had talked things out, she should be filial to his parents. The past was the past, and their future would be beautiful.
Nathaniel knew Saskia was determined, so he didn't stop her, but he wanted to be with her.Seeing Nathaniel, Saskia, and Benjamin all there, Jade couldn't hold back her tears.
"I'm sorry. I'm really a sinner. If it weren't for me, you two would have been married long ago. Nathaniel might have returned to his career sooner. You might even have a second or third child by now."While taking care of Benjamin, Jade took him to the park. The old folks there were all with their grandkids.
They boasted about having two or three grandchildren.
Especially now, young people thought differently. They all wanted daughters.
Jade wanted that a complete family.
She thought if she took good care of Benjamin, Saskia would have time to go on dates with Nathaniel.
But she didn't expect...
The more time Jade spent with Benjamin, the more she regretted. If she had let go sooner, Saskia and Nathaniel, with their deep love, would have been happy sooner and had many children.
The Egan family could afford it. The more, the merrier.
"That's all in the past. Let's not bring it up again. We need to look forward," Nathaniel said, not wanting to dwell on the past.
Their separation had been painful for both of them.
He even approached Azalea under the name George, almost losing his chance with Saskia.
Jade's voice was hoarse. "Even if we look forward, we can't forget the past. I'm really a sinner. You still have to take care of me. I know you're both busy. Focus on your own lives. Don't worry about me."
Jade didn't want them to waste time, but Saskia couldn't just leave Jade alone.
Besides, if Saskia insisted on staying, Nathaniel would too. After all, the person in the hospital bed was his mother.
"If I don't take care of you, who will? Don't say meaningless things. Just focus on getting better. Who else will look after Benjamin?"
Nathaniel gently patted Benjamin's head. The family of three, with Benjamin now calling her "Mom," enjoyed their life together.
"Alright, alright," Jade said, her eyes moist.
Saskia wiped her tears with a tissue. "As long as we live well as a family, that's enough."
That was her greatest happiness.
Meanwhile, Azalea made a decision. She would take Heidi away. Given Heidi's current state, the past didn't matter anymore.
Leaving Heidi here would only distract Saskia.
Saskia had already done so much for the family, taking care of Benjamin. Now that she was grown, she had to take responsibility.
Azalea called Saskia to inform her.
Saskia knew her number and had called a few times, but Azalea rarely answered. However, when Azalea called, Saskia always picked up.
She quickly answered, and Azalea said, "I'm taking Mom away. Live your life well. We've talked about this. Don't worry about the past."
"But where will you take her? You..."
"I have a way. Don't worry. I'll take good care of Mom. Just live your life. I'll call you often. If I have money, I'll come back to see you."
Azalea had initially planned to die with the masked man, but it didn't work out. Instead, she got entangled with him. What she didn't tell Saskia was that she was pregnant with his child.
If she left, she would take him with her.
As long as she didn't affect their lives, leaving was the best option.
"When will you come back? We're always family, no matter what. Don't say such things. Don't act impulsively."
Saskia had a feeling that if Azalea left, she wouldn't come back. She didn't want Azalea to leave.
Azalea smiled bitterly. "How could I not come back? I grew up in Willow Creek. This is my home. Even if I die, I want to die here."
"And if I stay, I can't see you often. I can't keep appearing as George's fiancée, can I?"
Nathaniel had told her the truth and treated her well. He had never wronged her.
She didn't blame Nathaniel, but she loved him.
If she stayed and kept appearing in Saskia's life, what would that mean?"
