Chapter 759 Unilateral Breach of Contract

They'd only been apart for four years, but now Benjamin was over three. If Benjamin was Nathaniel's kid, Saskia wouldn't be so tongue-tied.

Maybe Saskia had bailed back then because she was pregnant with someone else's baby!

"Who's Benjamin's dad? That guy you were just talking to, or someone else?" Nathaniel pushed.

Saskia was at a loss for words and just stayed silent.

Nathaniel was losing his cool. "If you care about your son and don't want him to see you like this, then just tell me. Why won't you say anything?"

Was the dad's identity that embarrassing for her?

Was Saskia someone's side chick?

As Nathaniel's mind raced with guesses, Benjamin, lying in bed, piped up, "Mom, what are you talking about?"

"Nothing, sweetie. This is my friend. We were just talking about work," Saskia said, forcing a smile for Benjamin.

Benjamin was already fighting a tough battle with his illness every day. He was in enough pain; Saskia didn't want to burden him with her troubles.

She didn't want to bring any more worry or pain to Benjamin.

"Work?" Nathaniel shot her a knowing look. "No wonder you don't know who the father is. You must have gotten pregnant while at work."

Saskia could feel the sting in his words.

In the past, Nathaniel would never have talked to her like this. He wouldn't have said such harsh things. Even when she got a small burn while cooking, he would have been heartbroken.

But they could never go back to how things were.

"Mom, are you and this man coworkers?" Benjamin couldn't quite grasp the complexities of adult relationships.

He could only understand the simplest meaning of the words.

Nathaniel's face darkened.

Saskia was a prostitute. If they were colleagues, what did that make him?

A gigolo?

If anyone other than a three-year-old had said that, he would have given them a piece of his mind.

At that moment, Benjamin spoke to him with more warmth, saying, "Sir, my mom works really hard. Could you give her an easier job? Or maybe one that pays better?"

If she had a job that paid enough, Saskia wouldn't need to juggle so many part-time gigs.

Nathaniel scoffed and turned to Saskia, saying, "Is this the child you raised?"

Saskia had caused Nathaniel so much pain—four years of insomnia and a diagnosis of depression. Whenever someone mentioned news about Saskia, he would drop everything and rush to find her.

Yet he was met with disappointment time and again.

The last time, he went abroad. As soon as his plane landed, he received a call from Robbie telling him that his beloved grandmother had passed away.

He was in a foreign country, and he couldn't have made it back in time to see her one last time.

That time, he still couldn't find Saskia.

Nathaniel didn't even know how he made it back home. As soon as he walked in, Jade sent him an audio file. He hadn't deleted it; it was still at the bottom of his photo album.Saskia had done so many unforgivable things, and now she hoped a few words from Benjamin would soften Nathaniel's heart and make him help her.

Was she dreaming?

"He's just a kid. He doesn't understand. Please don't hold it against him," Saskia said, shaking her head over and over.

All she wanted now was to stay far away from Nathaniel and never see him again.

She didn't want any connection with him, nor did she need his help.

Benjamin looked at them, confused.

"I gotta head back to the office to handle a case. I'll be home in three hours. Saskia, I expect to see you there when I get back. I know exactly which hospital room your son is in. And with your sister around, where do you think you can escape to?" Nathaniel said as he turned to leave.

He had only one weakness of Saskia's before, but now he had two.

This was good.

After leaving the hospital room, Nathaniel opened his hand. In his palm was a hair he had pulled out, follicle and all.

Even though he was pretty sure Benjamin wasn't his kid, he still wanted to test it.

Back in the hospital room, as soon as Nathaniel left, Saskia hugged Benjamin tightly, tears streaming down her face. "Did he do anything to you?" she asked.

"No, he just asked who my dad was. At first, I thought he was a bad guy, but then he showed me a picture of you two. You looked so happy in the photo," Benjamin said honestly.

Saskia's tears flowed even more.

The day she accepted the check, she had deleted all their old photos. Keeping them would only make her sadder.

But Nathaniel hadn't deleted them.

The more he had loved Saskia, the more he must hate her now.

"Mom, why are you crying?" Benjamin grabbed a tissue from the bedside table and carefully wiped her tears. "Did that man bully you? If you don't like him, I won't see him again. If he comes, I'll tell him to leave!"

To Benjamin, Saskia was the most important person in the world.

Anyone who made her sad was a bad person, and he didn't want to talk to bad people.

"No," Saskia said, shaking her head urgently.

Nathaniel held grudges, and he hated Saskia.

He would take it out on Benjamin. If Benjamin angered him, who knew what he might do?

"Don't go against him. If he wants to come, let him. If he hurts you, press the button by the bed to call the nurse and then tell me," Saskia instructed carefully.

Benjamin nodded. His impression of Nathaniel was already very bad.

Indeed, only Saskia was good in this world.

At the Egan Villa, a regal woman sat on the sofa, holding a delicate cup filled with expensive coffee.

The butler stood respectfully beside her, reporting.

"How did those two end up together again?" Jade slammed the cup onto the coffee table.

Her face was full of displeasure. "Saskia is pregnant again? This woman is so deceitful. She'll do anything to get into the Egan family."

She had given Saskia a large check back then to make sure their breakup was final. Saskia took the money but secretly had a child, which was a clear violation of their agreement.
