Chapter 875 Discussing the National Major Project
At the party that day, people had the nerve to question Nathaniel right to his face. So it was no surprise they'd say nasty things to Saskia when he wasn't around.
Nathaniel held Saskia's hand, his gaze incredibly gentle.
"We've been through so much to be together. You need to know how determined I am to protect you."
"If something happens, you have to tell me. If you don't, and I don't know, then you're just getting bullied for nothing."
Nathaniel's voice was soft and soothing, each word carefully chosen.
Saskia nodded. "Don't worry, I know. I just really want to prove myself through this collaboration."
She had to prove herself.
She wanted to be with Nathaniel for the long haul.
"What can you prove by working with her? Saskia, you need to understand, being with me, you don't have to…"
Before Nathaniel could finish, Saskia placed her hand over his lips.
She stopped him from saying more.
She was so clear about what she wanted.
Nathaniel understood her thoughts, but she needed to explain herself to him. "Electra looks down on me. If I can secure this deal with her, it'll set an example. Don't you think?"
Saskia's intentions were pure.
Nathaniel gently stroked her head. "But you need to understand, some people's malicious thoughts can't be stopped. You just need to be yourself; you don't have to prove anything to anyone."
That was true. Even Jade had let go of her prejudices against Saskia.
And Robbie was now focused on Benjamin.
But Saskia didn't want to be attacked by anyone.
"No, I've decided to go through with this collaboration. You don't need to persuade me otherwise."
Saskia was determined, and Nathaniel couldn't stop her.
"If you want to go, then I'll take you."
"Okay."
Saskia wasn't one to talk much.
After settling Benjamin in for the night, Saskia did some more preparation. She knew Electra would make things difficult for her, but she was ready for it.
Electra had been watching her for a while and was surprised that Nathaniel personally brought her over.
But then again, if Nathaniel was so good to Saskia now, what couldn't he do?
There was nothing to worry about.
They were there to discuss business.
Electra had booked a private room, and it was just the two of them. Saskia wasn't fazed at all. She handed over the project proposal. "This project is something I want to discuss personally. If you want me to defend…"
"You don't even have your license. How can I ask you to defend me? Why don't you ask Nathaniel to do it?" Electra interrupted with a mocking laugh before Saskia could finish.
Nathaniel's law license had been revoked, and he couldn't represent anyone in court. He had made that clear at the party.
Electra brought it up on purpose.
"If you're sincere about this, then let's talk. I already said, Electra, wasting both our time is pointless."
Saskia was angry.
Electra didn't care. "I was just joking. Look at you, getting all worked up. Hasn't anyone taught you to keep your cool in business?"
"Nope." Saskia shot back coldly. If Electra didn't respect her, she wouldn't respect Electra either.
Electra shrugged indifferently. "Well, if no one has told you before, now you know. Saskia, you should remember from your time in the service industry."
"How come now that you're with Nathaniel, you've changed so quickly? Forgetting your roots this fast?"
Saskia had insisted on coming alone, even though Clarence had wanted to accompany her. Clarence was stopped at the door by Saskia.
Electra probably thought she was alone and took the opportunity to humiliate and belittle her.
"Electra, do you know why I'm here today?"
Saskia stood up abruptly, her gaze intense and pressuring.
Electra sneered, "I don't care about your intentions. But since you're here, you should know I'm your client."
Saskia laughed at Electra's words. "Have we finalized the deal? If you don't want to work with me, don't forget, I have the right to refuse you, too."
She hated Electra's arrogance. She had hoped Electra would be more restrained, at least until the collaboration started.
But Electra had no intention of holding back from the start.
So, Saskia saw no need to be polite. "Since you don't want to collaborate, there's no point in my staying."
"Electra, if you target me in the future, I won't let it slide. You should leave yourself a way out."
With that, Saskia turned and left without looking back.
She didn't expect Nathaniel to walk in.
Nathaniel's eyes were sharp, and Saskia knew he was there to confront Electra.
Nathaniel had been lenient at the party, not causing trouble for Electra, but she didn't know when to stop and was now troubling Saskia.
Nathaniel's lips curled into a mocking smile. "You wanted this collaboration just to make things difficult for my wife. Why aren't you continuing now?"
Electra had thought Nathaniel was waiting outside, but he had come in.
And he was standing right in front of her!
Electra felt the intense pressure from Nathaniel.
She hadn't expected him to come in person.
Electra was uneasy. "How is this making things difficult? If you think this is difficult, then you shouldn't be negotiating."
Electra couldn't even look Nathaniel in the eye.
Nathaniel wouldn't give her the chance. He sneered, "You call this work difficult? What's so hard about this?"
"Is this a national project?"
"I..." Electra's breath hitched.
She just wanted to make things hard for Saskia. She didn't expect Saskia to handle it so well. She hadn't thought Saskia was so cunning!
"What do you mean? Are you going to say we misunderstood you?" Nathaniel's eyes were fierce.
He stepped closer to Electra, who thought he was going to hit her, and immediately covered her head. "Don't hit me, don't hit me."
Seeing Electra like this, Saskia found it amusing.
