Chapter 322 Eldorians
Pearl sat there for who knows how long, feeling a deep sadness.
Oscar stayed still in her arms, his steady breathing the only sound.
She wanted to ask questions, but received no answers, or maybe she already knew the answers.
Eventually, Pearl left quietly.
This time, she felt different.
"Ms. Harris."
Elijah saw her come out and asked, "You didn't fight with Oscar, did you? Are you both okay?"
Nicholas nudged Elijah to be quiet, sensing something was off judging by her look.
Pearl looked at Elijah and said, "Take good care of him."
Then she walked out the door.
Elijah stood there, thinking about how they couldn't be together, and sighed. Life was cruel sometimes.
When Pearl got back to the apartment, Jeffery was waiting.
"How are you?" Jeffery asked. "You okay?"
Pearl looked at him and asked, "Do you know Oscar?"
Jeffery was caught off guard. "Why are you asking?"
Pearl replied, "When I fainted, it wasn't a coincidence you showed up. Did Oscar send you?"
She knew Oscar had his reasons for all his doing, how wouldn't she? And it made her angry.
Oscar never wanted to share the burden.
If they couldn't face things together, what was the point?
She couldn't beg him to stay.
She needed someone, and Jeffery was there. She figured Oscar sent him.
Jeffery smiled. "I can't hide anything from you."
Pearl said, "You don't have to listen to him. You're my friend, not his."
Jeffery looked at her. "I'll help you no matter what. Even if it wasn't him, I'd still be here."
Pearl smiled. "Thanks, Jeffery. I didn't expect you to be the one by my side."
She valued every friend and remembered everyone who helped her.
For Jeffery's kindness, she'd risk her life for him if needed.
"It's not over yet," Jeffery hesitated. "I might not be able to stay with you until the end."
Pearl didn't fully understand but empathized.
Jeffery was there during her lowest moments, and she appreciated it, but everyone had their own life.
"No matter where you go, I hope you live in the sunshine!" This was Pearl's best wish for him.
Jeffery looked at her tenderly. Being close to her was his greatest wish.
He wanted to see Carol again, and live freely by her side.
"You should go in." Jeffery raised his hand, not daring to touch her, just waving.
Pearl responded softly, walked into the room, and said at the door, "You should rest early too."
After Pearl closed the door, Jeffery didn't rush to leave.
He leaned against the door frame, waiting quietly. Even though there was just a door between them, it was enough.
But his face was pale, without a trace of vitality.
After getting back, Adrian searched everywhere for info on The Crimson Eclipse Society.
How could he contact themor could he have even the slightest chance to get the antidote?
He spent the whole night searching.
The Crimson Eclipse Society was super secretive. To avoid punishment, they operated in a neighboring country.
Some of those caught didn't speak the same language or seem to be the same ethnicity.
Just then, the door opened, and Lauren walked in. "Adrian, what are you doing? Why is it such a mess in here?"
"I'm looking for information."
"What kind of information? You haven't slept, have you?" Lauren said gently. "You've been busy with work and haven't rested. How can your body take it? Rachel's coming over later, and you need to be with her. Stop working and rest for a bit."
She pulled Adrian to lie down on the couch.
Seeing his tired face, she felt even more worried.
"Mom, I'm fine." Adrian pulled Lauren's hand away. "I need to keep searching."
Lauren saw what he was looking at. "What is all this? I thought you were working, but you're looking into The Crimson Eclipse Society. Are you planning to become a cop?"
"I'm doing something really important."
"But nothing's more important than your health," Lauren said. "Take care of yourself first. Look, you've lost weight!"
Adrian suddenly thought of something and looked at Lauren. "Mom, you mentioned before, what ethnicity is Rachel?"
Finally hearing him show interest in Rachel, Lauren smiled. "Are you concerned about Rachel now? Her father is Eldorian. She's beautiful and a good match for you!"
Adrian looked at the info again and found a match.
Eldorians had significant achievements in chemistry and were skilled in pharmaceuticals.
Could there be a connection?
"When is Rachel coming over?" Adrian asked.
"She'll be here soon. She called and said she wanted some of my chicken soup." Hearing Adrian ask, Lauren was even happier. Her greatest wish was to see Adrian marry someone he loved. It seemed to be coming true. She said slowly, "I really like Rachel."
She looked up to see that Adrian was no longer in the study.
Lauren followed him out.
In less than ten minutes, Rachel arrived.
This time, she wore a beautiful dress and brought some gifts. As she entered, she called out, "Lauren!"
Both Lauren and Adrian were there.
Lauren immediately got up to greet her, "Rachel! You didn't have to bring gifts. Just having you here is enough!"
"Just a small token. I hope you don't mind!"
"Of course not," Lauren said. "Adrian was just asking about you. He can't wait to see you."
Rachel blushed. "Really? Lauren, you can't lie to me!"
"Really!" Lauren was thrilled.
She had tried to match them before, but Adrian was stubborn and didn't like Rachel at all.
Adrian didn't want to talk about relationships.
He looked at Rachel and got straight to the point. "I heard from my mom that your father is Eldorian?"
"Yes." Rachel sat down. "Why? Adrian, are you interested in my family?"
"Then are Eldorians skilled in making poisons and medicines?" Adrian asked.
