Chapter 466 Never Do Anything Without Certainty
"Was it really you who saved me?" Oscar smirked.
He stood in front of Haley, looking as imposing as ever, with cold eyes that made him seem like a king.
Haley found this version of Oscar completely unfamiliar. He'd always been distant, but never like this. He must've learned something about the past.
She couldn't keep up the act anymore and decided to drop it. Oscar's indifference had become too obvious, and she had given up.
"Does it matter if it was me? Your heart's all about Pearl. But there's something between you two you can't ignore, right?" Haley's smile widened.
Oscar stayed silent, his eyes growing sharper.
When someone punished Haley more harshly, Oscar just watched coldly. He didn't need Haley to remind him of the gap between him and Pearl.
Meanwhile, Jeffery kept leading Pearl forward. She was weak and nauseous. After a long walk, she couldn't hold on and vomited.
Seeing her like this, Jeffery was worried. "Pearl, we still have a long way to go to reach Oscar. You have to pull it together, or we'll get caught!"
He didn't want to stop. His only thought was to keep Pearl safe.
Pearl knew this too. But thinking about her connection to RavenWing, who had killed so many and done so many experiments, she couldn't control herself. And those memories...
She was RavenWing's daughter. But who had taken her to the slave camp for experiments? Her mind was a mess.
She leaned against a tree, gasping. "Jeffery, if I can't make it, you should go on without me."
"Do you think I could leave you behind?"
Jeffery held her hand tightly, looking determined. If he could've left her, he wouldn't have risked his life to save her when she was poisoned. He wouldn't have stayed by her side or gone back to the Eldorians.
Pearl gave a bitter smile. "RavenWing and Kevin won't let me die. But you're different, Jeffery. I don't want you to die."
Jeffery gripped her shoulders. "Pearl, back in the slave camp, you encouraged and protected Barbara and me. Without you, we wouldn't be here. You can't die, do you hear me? Don't you still want to be with Oscar?"
Pearl was exhausted. She tried to stay awake, but her eyelids grew heavier. She feared she couldn't hold on much longer. If Jeffery left her, he could run faster.
She let out a weak laugh. "Jeffery, I don't want to be a burden. Leave me and go. If I survive, we'll meet again someday."
If she didn't make it, that was her fate. She wouldn't drag anyone down with her.
Jeffery noticed Pearl's voice getting weaker. He shook her hard. "Pearl, stay awake! You have to survive. I'm your best antidote. You'll be fine!"
He shouted desperately, tears in his eyes, but Pearl had already closed hers, unresponsive.
"Damn it!" Jeffery cursed, thinking of Kevin.
He hated Kevin deeply, wishing he could tear him apart.
Kevin had harmed so many, ruled the Eldorians for so long, and turned his own daughter into RavenWing's daughter, usurping her place. Kevin still wouldn't let Pearl go! If Kevin hadn't dragged Pearl into experiments and poisoned her, she wouldn't be like this.
Jeffery had one thought: to confront Kevin and tear him to pieces. But first, they had to escape. Pearl had to be safe.
He carried Pearl and ran without stopping.
Meanwhile, Kevin, though escaped, was seriously injured. After settling him, Jorge tried to leave but was stopped by Kevin's scolding. "Do you think you can save her by going back now?"
Jorge had one thought: to save Haley.
Since Haley arrived at the Eldorians, Jorge had been with her, remembering her original, beautiful form. Even though she had become Carol, he always remembered their first meeting.
His duty was to protect Haley, a responsibility he never forgot.
Jorge lowered his head. "Mr. Garcia, I need to go back and save Ms. Mitchell. She's in great danger."
Jorge clenched his fists tightly.
Although Kevin always acted indifferent towards Haley in front of everyone, she was his adopted daughter, and that wouldn't change.
Kevin disagreed. "Even if you go back now, you can't do anything. You'll just throw your life away. Don't have unrealistic dreams. With your ability, it's like hitting a stone with an egg!" Kevin panted heavily.
If he had the ability to fight back, if Oscar hadn't ambushed him, he wouldn't be in this situation. He had already acted against RavenWing.
He had subdued Louis, but Oscar had suddenly appeared.
Kevin was furious but helpless, knowing going back now would be suicide.
"Are we just going to let Ms. Mitchell die there?" Jorge's voice was filled with resentment and a sense of injustice for Haley.
Kevin's lips curled into a cold smile. "She won't die there. We can change the situation. It's just a matter of time."
Jorge said nothing. He was just a subordinate, but he knew Kevin well after following him for so many years.
Kevin never acted without being sure of it.
