Chapter 498 She Would Rather Have a Child
Finally, they took the sack off Pearl's head.
The car's interior lit up with a warm, orange glow. She saw several armed men inside. Larry, with some gray at his temples, sat next to her.
The light on his side was dim, so she couldn't see his face clearly.
Larry had a sly smile. "Why do you think we captured you just to trade for Kevin?"
Pearl stayed silent, thinking,
'Then what was it?'
Maybe her reports had hit a nerve with the Allied Forces. Were they planning to use her to make a deal with the Eldorians?
Pearl's breath caught.
She hadn't reunited with Louis and RavenWing.
She had said those things on purpose, hoping they'd let her go. But it didn't work.
So, she couldn't be their burden either.
"If not, then kill me." Pearl leaned back, ready for whatever came next.
Since Oscar hadn't revealed he was alive, she couldn't mention him.
"Don't worry. It's just a matter of time."
Larry raised his hand and knocked her out.
Pearl woke up briefly when the car stopped.
They were at the seaside.
They dragged her out, planning to chop her up and feed her to the sharks, but they didn't succeed.
One by one, the men around her fell. Larry turned to see Oscar, gun in hand, walking towards them.
Larry's face changed. "Mr. Stewart, I'm under orders from Mr. Charles Stewart."
Before Larry could finish, Oscar shot him in the knee, making him collapse. Oscar's men dragged Larry away.
The wind howled by the sea as Oscar held Pearl tightly.
He murmured, "Pearl, I'm sorry."
When Pearl woke up again, it was daylight.
She looked around, unfamiliar with her surroundings, and she wasn't tied up.
"You're awake?" Oscar's hoarse voice came from afar, getting closer.
Pearl looked up sharply.
Oscar, dressed in black, holding a bowl of porridge, walked in.
Pearl frowned. "Why is it you?"
She had been held in the car, but now Oscar was here, clearly having saved her.
Those people didn't matter, but if Oscar had been following her, why did he hang up earlier?
And why did it take him so long to save her?
Oscar said hoarsely, "Eat something first. I'll explain."
He brought the porridge to her, but Pearl didn't take it. "I want the truth, Oscar. No more secrets."
"I know."
Oscar scooped a spoonful, blew on it gently, and brought it to her mouth. Pearl didn't eat, her eyes coldly staring at him.
Oscar had promised her that once things were settled, they'd be together forever. But then, news spread that he had died.
Oscar wasn't dead, but he hadn't come for her in five years. Even now, he was still hiding things, including the child. She felt deeply hurt.
Oscar didn't want her involved, but she deserved the truth!
Oscar knew Pearl's nature and that she was angry. He paused before speaking, "These people are Charles's men. Hathaway isn't my biological mother, and Alfonso isn't my biological father. My father is the President of Serenea. When I fell into the river that runs through Eldorian territory, Charles saved me. I spent a long time recovering, and he arranged many things for me. Pearl, I made a deal with him back then, and there are things I had to agree to."
She could guess some reasons, but hearing Oscar say it out loud still hurt.
She wanted to hug him but held back, thinking of the child.
"What about the child? Oscar, I'm not a kid anymore. I can handle the truth. Is my child dead or not?"
Pearl grabbed Oscar's hand, tears filling her eyes.
Oscar stroked her head. "Pearl, I already sent the child to you. I thought of having Christopher stay with you until I could sort things out here."
Oscar's voice was hoarse. Over the years, the only person he had wronged was Pearl.
Pearl cried uncontrollably. "Oscar, why are you telling me this now? Do you know I almost sent Christopher away!"
She never expected her biological son was Christopher.
No wonder she couldn't part with him.
No wonder he held her hand and said those things.
Pearl couldn't hold back. She grabbed Oscar's hand and bit down hard.
Oscar didn't even flinch, letting her vent.
Pearl eventually let go, her eyes red like a rabbit's.
She shouted hoarsely, "Why did you hide it from me? Do you know how much it hurt? You kept it from me for five years! I always thought my child was dead! Even now, I haven't had a chance to reunite with Christopher."
Pearl covered her face and cried.
She pounded Oscar's chest with her hands. "Oscar, why did you hide the child from me?"
"I used him to get the antidote for you. Pearl, at that time, to save you, I had no other choice." Oscar raised his hand, wanting to wipe away her tears.
Pearl cried uncontrollably.
She understood Oscar's intentions, but the problem was, between her life and the child's, she would rather save the child!
"And now? Since you were forced, why did you choose to come forward at this critical moment?"
Pearl took a deep breath, feeling even more distressed.
"Because of you. You are my everything. I can't stand by and watch you get hurt. Pearl, I've made up my mind. I want to leave everything behind, and we will be together with Christopher!" Oscar held her shoulders, looking at her with determined eyes, speaking each word clearly.
Pearl could sense Oscar's determination, but she also cared about his safety.
