Chapter 446 She Is Carol
Oscar grabbed Giovanni's wrist, and they started fighting.
On RavenWing's side, apart from the heavily guarded entrance, it was pretty empty inside.
No one dared to come here without RavenWing's permission. The fight between Giovanni and Oscar, plus the large space, didn't alert anyone outside.
Oscar tried to shake off Giovanni and rush inside, but Giovanni caught up, and they were locked in a fierce battle.
Inside, RavenWing still held the gun. Pearl was stunned.
She had seen a lot—Allied forces killing and looting, Giulia torturing Chiara, many wounded—but never faced death this close.
Suddenly, she felt a weight on her shoulder as Louis pulled her into his arms. "You can't do this to her. If she dies, you'll lose me."
Louis's words were clear, but Pearl's mind went blank.
Louis was RavenWing's son and held significant power. If RavenWing stepped down, Louis would be next.
Now, Louis was standing up to RavenWing for her.
She didn't think she was that special and wondered when Louis started treating her differently.
"Are you determined to protect her?" RavenWing asked coldly.
Louis didn't hesitate, "Yes, and I mean it."
With that, Louis held Pearl and turned to leave without looking back.
RavenWing's eyes darkened as he watched them go.
Pearl not only bullied Carol but now took his son away. He had just tested it and already saw Louis's feelings for Pearl.
"Davide, keep an eye on them," RavenWing said angrily.
Davide stepped out from the shadows and replied, "Yes."
Outside, Pearl was supporting Louis.
Seeing Giovanni and Oscar fighting, Louis shouted, "Stop it! Giovanni, take me back. Lorenzo, take Pearl back."
Oscar and Giovanni finally stopped.
Seeing the wound in Louis's shoulder, Giovanni quickly walked up, while Oscar swiftly approached Pearl.
Pearl hesitated but spoke, "Louis."
"It's not a critical hit; I'm fine," Louis said, waving it off. To him, this kind of injury was nothing.
Louis had been thrown into the training ground by RavenWing since he was four, and Giovanni was someone he had brought out from there.
Pearl remained silent.
She noticed that since Louis was shot in the shoulder blade, he hadn't even cried out in pain or furrowed his brows.
In the next second, she fell into a warm embrace.
Familiar warmth and scent enveloped her as Oscar held her tightly. Louis scolded, "Why are you still standing here? Get back!"
Oscar then held Pearl and left.
Giovanni supported Louis back to his place, while Davide observed everything closely.
Giovanni brought Louis back and immediately fetched a medical kit. He was no stranger to gunshot wounds.
Giovanni injected anesthetic under Louis's skin, made an incision at the bullet wound with a scalpel, and used forceps to extract the bullet. Then, he sutured the wound.
After treating Louis, Giovanni handed him some pills.
"Mr. Mitchell, I don't get why you did this. Lorenzo has a strong connection with Pearl. When he heard the gunshot, he just wanted to save her."
Giovanni said quietly, "RavenWing is already watching you and Pearl."
Louis knew what Giovanni meant. But if he didn't save Pearl, was he supposed to watch her get killed?
Louis said firmly, "Giovanni, you've been with me for years. You know me. Just follow my orders."
Giovanni understood the unspoken message. Some things shouldn't be questioned, and even if they were, no answers would be given.
"Go give Pearl and Oscar some self-defense weapons," Louis said in a low, hoarse voice.
'So Lorenzo was indeed an undercover agent. My intuition was right.'
Giovanni nodded. "I'll go right away."
Pearl and Oscar had returned to their small room. Oscar grabbed her shoulders, checking her over. After confirming she wasn't hurt, he sighed in relief.
"I can't worry about anything else now," Oscar said coldly. He was a soldier. Protecting the homeland came first, then the family.
Now his family was right in front of him. If he couldn't protect them, what use was he?
"Oscar, don't act rashly. RavenWing already thinks I'm with Louis. Don't give yourself away," Pearl said, interrupting his thoughts.
RavenWing could think whatever he wanted. Louis had already openly defied him.
For now, she needed to find Barbara and Adrian.
Mentioning Louis made Oscar's face turn cold, his expression freezing over like a thick layer of snow.
Oscar asked, "What's your relationship with Louis? Why is he so good to you?"
'Louis even took a bullet for Pearl and had me bring her back.'
Pearl shook her head. "I'm not sure either. He did ask me about one thing, though. He asked where the cross bracelet on my hand came from."
When Pearl mentioned this, Oscar noticed the cross bracelet, which Jeffery had given her.
'Could it be the cross bracelet?'
Seeing Oscar's gaze, Pearl remembered Jeffery used to call her Carol.
'Am I Carol?'
"I need to confirm something with Louis," Pearl said, grabbing Oscar's hand. Just then, Giovanni walked in.
Giovanni tossed some self-defense weapons to Oscar. "You're lucky to have met Mr. Mitchell!"
This confirmed Pearl's suspicions.
Pearl said, "Giovanni, take me to Louis. I have something important to ask him!"
Giovanni coldly refused, "Nothing is more important right now than Mr. Mitchell's safety!"
