Chapter 367 I'm Useless
They didn't do their job as parents, why were they so hard on her? They didn't love her at all!
She hated them. They made her life miserable!
Oscar said, "Believe it or not, that's the truth."
"No, they never loved me. Only you love me!" Haley clung to the iron bar, refusing to believe Oscar's kindness was just out of guilt and his grandfather's orders.
Oscar repeated, "David is a rational guy. He knows what's right and wrong. The Brown family didn't end up with Alfonso but with me, an outsider, because he knew the family couldn't be destroyed like that."
That's why Haley couldn't go back to the Brown family.
Her motives were shady, and David saw it. Even though he knew she was his granddaughter, he had to put the family first.
Even though he knew he owed her, he had to keep it hidden.
If Haley returned, she'd be a ticking time bomb, linking to the Crimson Eclipse Society and destroying the whole Brown family, including Oscar.
This hit Haley hard.
She always believed Oscar loved her and would fall for her again.
But he said his kindness was just out of guilt.
"I don't want guilt; I want your love!" Haley said. "None of this is true. You're kind to me because you care. I can give up everything. I don't need the Brown family. I want you!"
Oscar had nothing more to say about Haley's obsession. He had done everything for her, but she didn't appreciate it.
"It's time to wake up from your dream!"
Hearing this, Haley was heartbroken. She might have preferred not knowing. It would have spared her this pain.
She resented everyone in the Brown family, except Oscar. He was her support.
If he had always been kind to her, without Pearl around, she might have wanted to be a good person and stay with him.
Her faith collapsed!
She started laughing, tears streaming down her face, deeply saddened.
Then, she wiped her tears, her lips curling up. "Oscar, the antidotes in Kevin's lab are all unfinished. The poison is from RavenWing, but the potions are Kevin's experiments. He's trying to crack the poison formula, but all the antidotes are experimental and haven't worked yet."
Hearing this, Oscar's face changed dramatically, and Jeffery came running in, panting.
"The lab rats are reacting again!"
Jeffery wanted to say the antidote couldn't truly detoxify.
His experiment had failed!
Just twenty minutes later, the previously healthy lab rats collapsed again.
After hearing the news, Oscar rushed out. "I'm going to see Pearl!"
Haley looked at the pale-faced Jeffery, unsure whether to pity him or gloat.
To her, Jeffery was someone she couldn't hate.
"Jeffery, are you and Oscar working together?" Haley asked. "You look exhausted too."
Jeffery, expressionless, put his hands behind his back. "Worry about yourself."
"I don't get it. Is she that special?" Haley couldn't understand. "Why are you all risking your lives for her? You and Oscar, you're all crazy!"
By then, Jeffery had already walked out.
He knew he was the only one who could save Pearl, and he had to do it.
Haley watched quietly, who had already gone mad.
They were crazier than her.
Whether it was Jeffery or Oscar.
And Oscar, to find the antidote, had put on such a fearless act!
In the end, what did he get?
He didn't get the antidote at all.
Haley laughed and cried, not knowing if she was too tragic or if they were. In the end, they were all just sacrifices.
On the way, Pearl felt unwell.
At first, she was energetic and in a good mood, but suddenly, she felt pain.
She didn't know where it hurt; she just felt pain all over.
She was in agony.
She couldn't help but curl up, cold sweat breaking out on her body. When she raised her hand and saw the bruises reappearing, she understood.
God was playing a joke on her.
"Elijah," Pearl called weakly.
"Yes, Ms. Harris." Elijah turned around and saw her face covered in cold sweat. He was startled. "Ms. Harris, what's wrong?"
Pearl's voice trembled, and she clung to the car window for support, saying, "The antidote isn't real!"
"How can this be!" Elijah was shocked, urging the driver to speed to the hospital. He wanted to call Oscar, but Oscar had already called first.
Oscar just told him to get to the hospital quickly.
Elijah didn't dare to be careless, especially since Pearl was carrying a child.
Her life was more precious than anyone's.
Pearl endured the pain, who seemed to be able to bear it. Maybe the poison had already invaded her body, and she was used to it.
She could still hold on.
When they arrived at the hospital, Pearl was drenched in sweat.
She lay motionless on her side in the back seat.
Oscar had already arrived.
When the car stopped, he opened the door and carried Pearl out, calling her, "Pearl!"
Pearl opened her eyes and saw Oscar's anxious face. She grabbed his collar. "I'm fine. I can still bear it. Don't worry."
Those few words brought tears to Oscar's eyes, his heart aching sharply. "I'm sorry. I'm so useless!"
Pearl covered his mouth with her hand, forcing a pale smile. "Who said you're useless? You can't say that about yourself. You're a hero to me and our baby."
