Chapter 530 Either a Man or a Woman
Louis shot a glance at Jimena, and her eyes were screaming determination.
No way Jimena could've cooked up such a plan.
Plus, Giovanni had already dug deep into her background.
He pressed his lips together and muttered, "I trust you, but I don't like you."
"Don't say that. Mr. Mitchell, you asked, and I laid out my terms."
Jimena's face was set; she wasn't messing around with Louis.
A month ain't that long.
But before Louis could get a word in, Jimena laughed and cut him off, "Mr. Mitchell, I'd put my life on the line for you. And yet, you're such a chicken."
"Don't try to rile me up. It won't work."
He'd be her boyfriend for a month, but the whole Eldorians would be all over their business.
When they split, who'd the Eldorians gossip about? Him or her?
Better not to start at all.
Jimena felt like an invisible hand was squeezing her heart.
She whispered, "Louis, are you really this cold?"
She was ready to risk it all, but Louis still wouldn't give her a shot.
Louis said, "After a month, when we call it quits, what will people think of you? And what will they think of me?"
Jimena felt a lump in her throat, and tears started to form.
'So that's what Louis thinks.'
Jimena bit her lip and finally made up her mind. "If that's what you're scared of, I'll take care of it after a month. I'll make it look like I cheated. How's that?"
Jimena looked up at Louis, eyes full of hope.
But her stare was even more determined than before.
Louis was totally floored.
He couldn't believe it and asked, "Jimena, are you nuts?"
By faking infidelity, she'd be the target of all the hate and mockery from the Eldorians.
Jimena chuckled. "For you, I'm willing to go nuts. Louis, I have such a simple wish. If I can go this far, what are you scared of? Or were my suspicions right all along?"
Jimena stared at Louis, unwavering.
Louis's face was ice-cold. "You're good at pushing my buttons."
"I'm just stating the facts. You clearly have no one, yet you keep pushing me away. There's no deep-seated hatred or unbridgeable gap between us. Even the stuff you're worried about, I can handle. But still, you don't want to be with me."
Jimena's eyes were filled with confusion, maybe even a bit of sadness.
Louis sighed. "It's not that you're not good. My dad hasn't remarried all these years because he's got regrets."
No woman around RavenWing could hold a candle to Francesca.
At first, there were women around RavenWing, but eventually, he buried himself in the lab and never wanted to come out, giving Kevin an opening.
Jimena's heart ached with every beat. At this moment, she finally got where Louis was coming from.
So, Louis was pushing her away because of responsibility and fear of regret.
Jimena was at her wit's end; she grabbed Louis's hand, tears streaming down. "It's cool. You don't have to love me. Just treat me like a sidekick."
Jimena was head over heels for Louis and was ready to do anything for him.
But for Louis, that was exactly why he couldn't say yes.
"Jimena, your life is yours; you shouldn't live it for someone else. Even without me, you'll find someone better."
Even if Jimena couldn't love someone else right away, with so many people out there, she'd eventually fall for someone else.
Jimena felt like she had a lump in her throat.
Even now, Louis was trying to talk sense into her.
"I'm not that bad! I've said all this, and you still won't agree. I don't want you to be responsible for me. Just be with me for one month, you don't have to worry about anything else. Or do you want to see me die right here?"
Jimena broke down, totally losing it.
She loved Louis so much she was ready to give up everything for him.
As long as Louis agreed, she'd be willing to die.
But how could Louis let her die? From the moment Jimena took a bullet for him, Louis knew how much she loved him.
"If one month is all you want, then I agree."
"Really?" Jimena's eyes lit up, filled with disbelief.
She grabbed Louis's hand tightly.
To her, as long as Louis agreed, it meant she had hope.
She'd eventually win him over.
"But you need to rest up first." Louis patted Jimena's hand.
Jimena nodded obediently, "Okay."
Then, Jimena let go of Louis.
At that moment, she was like a kid who just got candy, super happy.
Louis knew she was seriously hurt and took care of her wholeheartedly, even cooking for her.
Pearl ran into him in the kitchen. Seeing the bowl of porridge in his hand, Pearl couldn't help but smile. "So, you and Jimena made it official? Louis, you should cherish her."
Jimena's kindness was recognized not just by RavenWing but also by Pearl.
Pearl was heading back to Willow Creek with Oscar, so naturally, he should be responsible to Eldorians.
"I know she's good. She saved me, so it's only right I take care of her. I don't have any other feelings for her right now."
"Such a good girl in front of you and you have no other thoughts? Don't you like women?"
If anyone else had said this, Louis would've been pissed, but coming from Pearl, Louis's face showed a bit of discomfort. "If I don't like women, does that mean I have to like men?"
Was it necessary to experience romantic relationships in one's lifetime?
Maybe it was the blood connection, or maybe it was the people Pearl had met over the years, but Pearl sensed everything from Louis's expression.
"In this world, there are only men and women."
