Chapter 316 Returning to Work

Oscar turned back and said, "I'm driving on it."

Pearl just got angrier, unable to do anything about it.

They were at a standstill.

Pearl walked ahead, with his car trailing behind.

Seeing him still following, Pearl decided to head in the opposite direction instead of going home.

Oscar frowned and had someone honk the horn, saying, "This isn't the way to your home!"

"I never said I was going home," Pearl shot back. "Can't I just take a walk?"

She then mocked, "What a coincidence, Mr. Brown is still on the same road with me!"

Oscar stayed silent.

Pearl was fuming inside. She couldn't figure out what Oscar wanted. 'He asked for the divorce! Now he's following me!'

She stopped, turned around, and glared at him. "Are you done yet?"

Oscar looked up and retorted, "What did I do?"

Pearl put her bike down, walked up to him, and said, "Stop following me. We're done! You're causing me trouble. You were so decisive about the divorce. Let's not see each other again. I thought the president of the Brown Group was a man of his word. What do you want?"

Oscar didn't know what he wanted.

He was worried about her, how she'd manage, pregnant, without him.

He worried about everything.

Even a road obstacle made him fear she might fall.

That's why he went to such lengths.

Seeing Oscar stay silent, Pearl sneered. "Oscar, when did you become so quiet? Understand our relationship. If you're leaving, leave completely. If you're separating, separate completely. Got it?"

"Or are you reluctant?" Pearl continued. "Are you that greedy? If you keep this up, I'll look down on you. Stop having people watch me. I can take care of myself. I don't need your pity. Stay away from me, and I'd really appreciate it."

With that, Pearl rode her bike home, which wasn't far.

She hoped scolding Oscar would make him withdraw his people.

Sure enough, Oscar didn't follow.

Seeing Pearl was a luxury for Oscar.

He missed her but didn't dare approach.

He could only use this method.

Even if she discovered him.

When Pearl got home, Jeffery had already tidied up the garden.

She couldn't help but admire his work. "You're done already?"

"Yes," Jeffery replied. "It's almost done. Take good care of these flowers, and they'll bloom beautifully."

"Thanks, you've been a great help." Pearl handed him a bottle of water.

"Why so polite? I'm happy to help." Jeffery felt happy and carefree spending time with her.

"Where did you go? Shopping?" Jeffery saw her carrying a lot. "You bought so much. Wouldn't it be easier to drive? Riding a bike is tiring, especially since you're pregnant!"

"I wanted to sell something but couldn't, so I bought some things instead," Pearl said. "I'm going to shower and rest. Tomorrow, I'm planning to go back to the TV station."

"You're not going to rest?" Jeffery asked, following her.

"No, I want to get back to normal life."

Even though she had the villa and financial security, doing nothing felt boring.

"Okay." Pearl returned to work.

As soon as she got back, Emma bombarded her with questions.

Pearl brushed her off. "What you see is what it is. Let's get to work!"

Emma, like Janetta, was annoyed but didn't push it.

Even if Emma stayed quiet, the office was buzzing.

"Have you seen the latest buzz? Haley's trending number one!"

"Isn't it because of the news that Haley and Oscar are getting married? That news just broke, and it's huge!"

"There were rumors before, but I didn't think it was true. Haley's like a novel's heroine!"

"Did you see that live broadcast where Oscar proposed to another woman? That woman's figure didn't look like Haley."

In that live broadcast, only Pearl's back was shown, so they didn't know it was her.

"Wasn't that Haley's back? This is so confusing, all in just a few days!"

"Doesn't that make Oscar a scumbag? And Haley still wants to marry him?"

"She even clarified on Facebook, saying they're in a normal relationship and showed off the engagement ring!"

"So Haley would do anything for love!"

"Haley is so pitiful. Wasn't Oscar already married? Why does he have so many scandals?"

"Who knows? If we could find out who the woman he proposed to is, that would be even more explosive!"

They worked while gossiping.

Pearl didn't want to listen, but being in the news industry, she couldn't avoid it.

As for following up on Haley's story, she wasn't interested. She was focused on helping Eileen regain her fame.

"Emma, how's it going with Eileen?"

Emma replied, "There are scripts looking for her, but she hasn't been interested. Good scripts don't come to her, and she doesn't want to act in bad ones."

Pearl thought for a moment. "What about Haley?"

Emma moved closer and said, "I don't know if it's because of Mr. Brown's connections, but several big productions are looking for Haley. I don't get it. Haley's acting isn't even good. Why are so many people looking for her? It's not fair!"

Clearly, Oscar's influence played a part.

It's also possible Haley had another benefactor.

"Give me the list of new TV dramas starting production soon. I'll take a look," Pearl said.

"Okay, I'll sort it out for you right away!" Emma immediately printed out the list.

These production companies and the media are closely related.

To ensure popularity, the media are the first to know the outline of new dramas to promote them online.

"These are the ones with higher popularity. Some are looking for Haley. I don't get why she's so lucky. Even after being exposed, she still gets roles!" Emma said, clearly frustrated.

"Time will bury all negative news. Her comeback was inevitable. If her acting skills are recognized, no one will hold onto her past," Pearl said, tossing aside the scripts that were hot before even being filmed.

Emma didn't understand. "Why aren't you looking at these? The others don't have as much buzz."
