Chapter 387 Take Me to Him Immediately
Harold came back with news. "Mr. Brown, there's an obstetrician who's been practicing for thirty years."
Quinn Brooks, a middle-aged woman with glasses, looked knowledgeable and reliable.
"Please save my wife and baby! I'll pay you anything!" Oscar begged Quinn, desperate.
"Step aside and let me in!" Quinn rushed to the car to check on Pearl, ignoring everything else.
The car was stuck in traffic, and blood was pooling beneath Pearl.
Pearl had a C-section scheduled around this time and had been in contact with her doctor. After meeting Haley today, she was supposed to go to the hospital to wait for labor. But the baby came early, and she had to deliver now.
She reached out for Oscar but couldn't find him, grabbing whatever she could and crying out in pain.
Quinn comforted her, "Relax and spread your legs!"
Pearl, almost losing consciousness, followed Quinn's instructions, trying to stay awake.
The pain was overwhelming, but she managed to stay conscious.
Quinn guided her through the delivery while Oscar anxiously waited outside.
"Check the traffic up front and get us to the hospital ASAP!" Oscar ordered.
Pearl was in a life-and-death situation, poisoned and stuck in traffic. Oscar wanted to see her but hesitated at the car door because of the strong smell of blood.
He waited anxiously, hearing Pearl's cries.
Quinn urged, "Push harder, the baby is almost out!"
"I'm pushing as hard as I can," Pearl said, exhausted and trembling.
Quinn wiped her sweat and encouraged her, "Keep pushing, don't pass out. You can do this!"
Pearl fought to stay awake, knowing she might not wake up if she fell asleep. She bit her lip, drenched in sweat, and drained of energy.
Oscar, outside the car, was distressed, clenching his fists.
As traffic cleared, Oscar got in the passenger seat, covering his nose and mouth from the strong smell of blood.
"Drive faster!" he urged the driver.
With a police escort, the car sped down the emergency lane. Oscar glanced back at Pearl, pale and on the brink of losing consciousness, her pupils dilated. His heart raced, fearing she wouldn't wake up.
To fire up Pearl's spirit, Oscar shouted, "Pearl, you're this child's mother. Without you, he can't have a normal life. He needs you more than me!"
Oscar's eyes turned red. He didn't promise anything about the child's future. Pearl had to stay alive. He knew he couldn't face raising the child alone.
His harsh words were meant to make Pearl angry, to trigger her maternal instincts. She was strong and would fight through adversity.
Hearing this, Pearl's demeanor changed. She couldn't give up. Summoning her strength, she lifted her head, gritted her teeth, and spat out, "Oscar, you bastard!"
With a final push, she felt the baby coming out, exhausting her last bit of strength but also bringing relief. She collapsed, spent.
The sound of a newborn's cry filled the air. Quinn held up the baby.
Oscar was stunned. Nothing had shocked him more than this moment.
"The baby is born. It's a boy," Quinn said, happy.
She brought the baby to Oscar. The tiny baby cried, defenseless, and the smell of blood filled the air.
Oscar clenched his fists, fighting the urge to strangle the baby. He closed his eyes and said, "Take him away!"
Quinn, expecting Oscar to be happy, was stunned by his reaction. Seeing his fierce expression, she quickly took the baby away.
But Pearl was the immediate concern. Quinn noticed something wrong. "Her breathing is weak. She needs to get to the hospital now!"
"We're almost there!" the driver said.
Quinn checked the baby again, who was no longer crying, not as active. "They both need immediate treatment!"
As the car stopped at the hospital, doctors and nurses rushed out.
Oscar quickly carried the unconscious Pearl out. "Save her, no matter what!" he shouted.
He followed Pearl inside while nurses took the baby.
Pearl's face was pale. After giving birth, she fainted without hearing the baby's cry. Her breathing was weak, and her heart was slowing.
She felt like she was drifting away, darkness enveloping her vision.
Pearl was taken inside, leaving Oscar outside, anxiously waiting. He knew he couldn't just wait. Only a cure could save her.
The doctor had warned him that the baby would consume Pearl's last bit of life. She would die after giving birth.
Oscar couldn't wait any longer. His eyes were bloodshot, rage almost taking over.
Just then, someone said, "Mr. Brown, someone is here to see you. They say you'll definitely want to see him now!"
The words snapped Oscar back to reality. He saw Harold's troubled face and realized the urgency. "Take me to him right away!" he demanded.
