Chapter 348 You Can't Die
Oscar's eyes narrowed, his stare growing more intense.
Donald found it funny that a soldier would turn to crime for Haley, but his smirk vanished when Oscar kicked him in the stomach.
Donald clutched his stomach and pulled out a mini handgun from his waistband.
Oscar dodged instinctively.
Donald wasn't aiming to kill Oscar; he wanted to inject Haley with poison.
Seeing Donald rush at her, Haley panicked.
"Watch out!" Oscar lunged from the side, tackling Donald.
Donald couldn't retract the needle in time, and it plunged into Oscar's shoulder.
Haley's eyes widened, and she struggled, whimpering.
But it was too late.
Donald was stunned by Oscar's move, then laughed. "Oscar, you're really in love."
Oscar felt a sharp prick as the needle went in. His nervous system went haywire. His head grew heavy, ears rang, and his body felt unsteady.
Someone came over to untie Haley.
"No!" The cloth was removed from Haley's mouth, and tears streamed down her face.
She crawled over, trying to lift him, but couldn't. "Oscar! You weren't injected, right?"
She couldn't believe it, but the syringe was empty.
Oscar's mind was foggy, veins bulging on his forehead as he lay on the ground, trembling in pain, unable to react.
Barbara's attention was on Donald, who tried to escape in the chaos.
Barbara couldn't let him get away.
She needed the antidote!
"You can't run. Give me the antidote!" Barbara chased him.
During the struggle, Donald's arm was shot, bleeding. Seeing Barbara approach, his eyes turned cold. "Barbara, do you have a death wish? How dare you block my way!"
Barbara tried to negotiate. "Donald, I just want the antidote for KA48. Give it to me, and I'll let you go! You'll still have a chance to get out of here alive."
Donald replied, "So you betrayed me after all!"
"Donald, I've been by your side for years, never asking for anything. Please, give me the antidote." Barbara pleaded. "If you do, I'll let you go and won't tell anyone where you went!"
Donald, clutching his wound, said, "Fine, come here!"
Barbara's face lit up. "Really? You're willing to give it to me?"
"The antidote is on me."
Barbara walked over.
Donald had told her he had both the poison and the antidote.
She believed him.
As she got closer, Donald's eyes turned cold, and he struck at Barbara, who was on guard, dodging to the side, his fist grazing her face.
"You lied to me!" Barbara realized.
Before she could finish, Donald grabbed her hand and kicked her leg.
A bone-cracking sound was heard, and Barbara cried out, dropping to one knee, then being thrown aside by Donald.
Barbara rolled on the ground.
"Did you forget who taught you to fight? How dare you threaten me!" Donald walked over, stepping on her chest. "You're just a dog I raised. If you don't behave, there's only one path for you—death!"
Barbara spat blood, grabbing his pant leg. "Give me the antidote."
Donald squinted, smirking. "I never had the antidote, Barbara. After all these years, you're still so easily deceived."
Barbara's eyes widened in shock. "You don't have the antidote!"
"There was never an antidote for KA48!" Donald laughed, grabbing her neck. "Go join your dead friends!"
He was about to kill her.
Barbara couldn't believe it. "You lied to me!" She used all her strength to pull out a knife and stab at Donald's eye.
Donald dodged, but his face got cut.
Barbara's eyes were filled with hatred. Despite her broken leg, she stood up with sheer willpower. "You never told me the truth. So, was it a lie that my parents sold me too?"
Donald wiped his face, sneering. "People who come here either live or die. Who knows who their parents are!"
Barbara's eyes reddened. "So, you've been lying to me all along. You used me as a tool, ruined my life. You deserve to die!"
She pulled out a gun.
Two gunshots rang out.
Pearl, trembling in a small dark room, heard the gunshots outside. Her body stiffened, her eyes vacant, and an unavoidable sadness washed over her.
Tears welled up in her eyes, and she didn't know why she was crying.
The scene was like a nightmare, filled with sadness.
Then, the door was pushed open.
A beam of light shone in, piercing Pearl's eyes. She had never found sunlight so blinding, making it hard to open her eyes.
"There's someone here!" A special forces soldier called out.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down Pearl's face as she reached out, yearning for salvation. When her hand was finally grasped, it felt as though she had been pulled from an endless darkness. Trembling, she whispered, "I am saved! I'm out!"
The soldier immediately helped her out.
She saw the blood on the ground, so many bodies, her eyes filled with fear, her face pale and speechless.
"Barbara," Pearl suddenly thought of her. Didn't she tell her to wait?
Why hadn't she come back?
Pearl became uneasy, looking around. Besides the captured criminals, there were only special forces soldiers, and no sign of Barbara.
She couldn't stay calm, breaking free from their support. "I need to find someone!"
"Ms. Harris!" They chased after her.
Pearl felt something was wrong. Barbara must have been trying to get the antidote for her.
With her striking red hair and love for beauty, she would stand out in a crowd. She could find Barbara.
Until she walked out and suddenly stopped, seeing Barbara lying in a pool of blood, her red hair still striking, but her face pale.
She lay there alone, her blood mixing with her red hair, filling Pearl with indescribable sadness and shock.
This couldn't be real.
Pearl's tears had finally stopped, but her legs felt weak as she slowly made her way to Barbara's side.
She used all her strength to lift Barbara, wiping the blood from her face. "Barbara, wake up."
The blood didn't come off completely, so Pearl used her sleeve to continue wiping. "Wake up, your face is dirty. You're not beautiful anymore. Please, get up and clean yourself."
Pearl's voice broke with anguish. "You can't die!"
