Chapter 303 Work Hard
Paul started laughing. "What a load of crap! I don't believe any of it. Do you even have any money?"
Steven chimed in, "We've been together forever, and she hasn't helped me with anything. If she wasn't pregnant, I wouldn't even be here!"
"Believe it or not," Oscar said coldly.
Oscar didn't agree with Steven and Paul's views at all.
'How much could their wives possibly spend? Why didn't they complain when they got married?'
Seeing Oscar's cold expression, Steven and Paul doubted he had any money .
"Don't be so sure. You're still in the honeymoon phase. Give it a year, and you'll be just like us."
"You're right."
Oscar replied, "Maybe you should doubt your own capabilities."
"How much do you make a month?" Steven and Paul were getting angry. "I make five grand a month, and I was fine alone. Since I got married, I'm always broke!"
Oscar got serious. "Five grand a month, and your wife spends five bucks on a snack. Even if she eats every day, that's only $150 a month."
"Isn't that money?" Paul shot back.
"I can smell the smoke on you. You must smoke a pack a day, right?" Oscar said coldly. "Spending five bucks on food is wasting money, but twenty bucks on cigarettes isn't?"
Paul and the others looked upset but couldn't argue. Still, Paul wanted to prove his point. "We earn it ourselves. Can you say loving your wife makes you rich? We provide for them. What's wrong with them saving a bit? It's all for the family."
"Focus on your own earnings first," Oscar said.
"How much do you make?" Paul asked, seeing Oscar's arrogance. "Tell us how much more you make. Do you have money?"
Oscar looked at them coldly. "I haven't calculated."
They laughed. "You must make less than three grand a month and are too embarrassed to say it!"
"I don't know how much I have. I haven't looked at this month's financial report," Oscar said seriously.
Paul was stunned, then laughed louder. "You think you're a big boss with financial reports? You look well-dressed, but what kind of big shot lines up for hot dogs?"
"My wife likes them."
"I don't believe it!"
"Neither do I."
Steven and Paul were furious.
Oscar didn't care to argue. "If you don't want to buy, don't block my way!"
"Why are you so arrogant?" Oscar's words hit their pride, making Steven and Paul angry.
They were ready to fight, but before Paul could reach him, Elijah stepped in. With a swift move, he grabbed Paul's arm, making him cry out in pain.
Elijah, a soldier, was always ready to protect Oscar.
Elijah didn't give them a chance to make a move.
"Oscar, you okay?" Elijah asked.
"I'm fine."
Seeing Elijah's uniform and skills, they realized Oscar was different from them.
Steven and Paul quickly apologized. "Sorry, we shouldn't have been so arrogant!"
"You're right!"
"Please don't hold it against us; we didn't mean to offend you."
Oscar hadn't even said anything, but they were already scared.
If they offended Oscar, they might lose their jobs. Forget about getting rich; they'd be lucky not to go bankrupt.
Oscar's temper had improved, and he didn't make things difficult for them. He just asked Elijah to let go and went to buy a hot dog.
Paul's hand was almost dislocated.
Elijah let go of Paul and watched as Oscar bought a hot dog and walked away.
They noticed Pearl too but couldn't understand why someone wealthy would be in line for a hot dog.
After Oscar left, they whispered, "Why would a rich person come here for hot dogs? It's unrealistic."
"If we had that kind of money, we wouldn't use it to please women."
"Rich people have countless women to choose from; they don't need to please anyone!"
A nearby girl couldn't stand Steven and Paul's conversation and said, "That's why you're broke!"
Steven and Paul were speechless.
Pearl saw Oscar coming over and took the hot dog from his hand. "What were you arguing about? It looked like you were about to fight, and it took a while."
"They were out of line, so I gave them a little talking-to. It's nothing," Oscar said gently.
"I see." Pearl took a bite of the hot dog. It was hot and savory. No wonder so many people waited in line for it.
Oscar put his arm around her waist, and they strolled around the area.
The square was lively, with balloons of various shapes and pigeons flying around.
The most striking sight was the sea of flowers, a variety of freshly picked roses.
Many people were taking pictures there.
"Is today Valentine's Day or some event? There are so many fresh roses here!"
Oscar saw her looking at the flowers. "Do you want some flowers?"
Pearl shook her head. "I don't want any. It just feels lively and makes me happy."
"As long as you're happy, I'm happy too," Oscar said with a smile.
Pearl turned to look at Oscar. "You're acting strange today, always saying these sweet things."
"Am I ?" Oscar said softly. "I want to treat you well and fulfill all your wishes. Is that strange?"
Pearl turned back. "It's just a feeling."
"Don't overthink it. I naturally want to give my wife the best of everything," Oscar said, holding her tighter. "I want you to always be happy."
Pearl couldn't help but smile. "I'm already very happy."
"There are even happier days ahead for you."
As they walked, a little girl suddenly bumped into her and handed her a bouquet of roses.
