Chapter 966 Don't Get Drunk
Lyra looked at Mia, smiled, and shook her head, then glanced down at the bouquet in her hands.
She seemed to have made up her mind.
It looked like she wouldn't have to worry about who would get the bouquet.
Soon, the ceremony was over, and it was time to toss the bouquet.
In her pure white wedding dress, Lyra raised the bouquet and lifted her arm in a certain direction.
But the flowers didn't fall.
After a few fake throws, the tension among the crowd eased a bit.
Suddenly, she changed direction and aimed at Mia.
At that moment, the people around Mia seemed to have a mutual understanding and scattered away.
The bouquet was about to fall towards Mia. She instinctively stepped back several paces to avoid it.
But the area around her was already empty.
If she didn't catch it, the bouquet would fall onto the grass.
Seeing the bouquet about to hit the ground, Mia couldn't bring herself to let it fall. She lunged forward and caught it just before it hit the ground.
However, in her haste, she accidentally stepped on the hem of her dress.
She lost her balance and was about to fall.
The expected pain didn't come.
Instead, she found herself in a warm embrace, and a deep, pleasant voice sounded in her ear, "Are you okay?"
Mia quickly stood up, shaking her head repeatedly. "I'm fine."
She got up so quickly that she pulled on his clothes, causing a button to pop off.
Feeling embarrassed, Mia bent down to pick it up and handed it to him.
"Here, this is yours."
After a moment's thought, she added, "I don't know how to sew."
He chuckled softly. "It's okay."
After the wedding ceremony, everyone mingled on the lawn.
The venue was set up with various games, snacks, and drinks.
The warm sunset bathed the lawn in a golden glow, and laughter filled the air.
Lyra changed out of her wedding dress to get a new look.
While she was getting ready, Jeffery came in to keep her company several times.
Lyra urged him, "There are still a lot of guests to entertain outside. It's not right for both of us to stay here."
Jeffery refused seriously, "I want to be with you."
"And," he paused, glancing outside and clearing his throat, "They're trying to interrupt our alone time."
Lyra instantly understood what he meant, her face heating up.
Jeffery, seemingly oblivious to her embarrassment, continued quietly while the makeup artist fetched a new headpiece.
"They're all medical professionals. They know that drinking too much can cause... issues."
Just as the conversation was about to take an unexpected turn, the makeup artist returned with the headpiece.
Lyra quickly redirected the topic, "They've been planning this for a long time, waiting for today."
Jeffery snorted, "If anyone goes too far, I'll double everyone's bonus at the end of the year, except for the troublemaker."
"I'll announce it, and we'll see who dares."
Thinking about the bonuses, Jeffery remembered the promise he had signed earlier.
"Where's that last document?"
"Mia has it," Lyra replied after a moment. "She probably came up with the idea and is holding onto it, waiting to cash in at the end of the year."
Jeffery didn't care about the document's content. His eyes never left Lyra.
"I'm just happy to marry you. If the bonus doubles, so be it."
Mentioning Mia, Lyra sighed in relief, "Good thing she caught the bouquet in the end. Otherwise, all my planning would have been for nothing."
The people around Mia were all pre-arranged and instructed by Lyra.
Everyone knew the bouquet would come their way, so they all dodged to ensure Mia had to catch it.
Unexpectedly, Mia almost avoided it, nearly ruining Lyra's plan.
"Speaking of which," Lyra looked at Jeffery, "Who caught Mia when she fell? Is he single? He seemed nice. Maybe we could introduce him to Mia."
Jeffery frowned, "It's our wedding, and you're checking out other men."
Lyra glared at him, about to lose her temper. Jeffery quickly replied seriously.
"He's a friend of mine. Good guy, dedicated to biotech research, which is why he's still single."
"We can introduce them, but who knows if Mia will be interested."
Lyra thought about Mia's previous words.
'Love isn't something you can force. Sometimes, it needs a bit of fate.'
"We'll do our part and leave the rest to fate. The bouquet is given, and the man is introduced. The rest is up to her."
Jeffery stayed with Lyra in the makeup room until she was ready and walked out.
They found several people waiting with drinks, clearly intent on getting Jeffery drunk.
Not wanting to spoil the fun, Jeffery had taken some anti-hangover medicine earlier and mingled with the guests.
Seeing him drink a bit too much, Lyra stepped in, smiling at the group.
"What are you all up to?"
They joked, "It's a celebration! We have to drink and have fun."
Knowing their intentions, Lyra looked at them, drawing out her words, "Really?"
Under her gaze, they quickly made excuses and left.
Though they left, the watchful eyes around them didn't lessen. Lyra realized.
"They're not planning to get you drunk all at once. They have time."
She suddenly thought of something and asked, "While you're still sober, why not find your friend and see if you can set him up with Mia?"
Jeffery gently stroked her waist, correcting her, "What do you mean by 'while I'm still sober'? I'll be sober all night."
Lyra blushed, feeling her face burn.
To distract herself, she urged, "Let's get to it."
"Okay," Jeffery replied quickly, scanning the area.
He suddenly smiled, "Maybe we don't need to introduce them."
Lyra followed his gaze and saw Mia standing by the dessert table, talking to the man who caught her.
They were chatting closely, and Mia still held the bouquet tightly.
"Looks like my bouquet did its job," Lyra smiled contentedly.
Jeffery wrapped his arm around her waist, "Our task is done. Now we need to handle those trying to get me drunk."
"Don't worry, I'll protect you," Lyra patted his hand.
"Then I'm in good hands," Jeffery kissed her forehead lightly.
In the distance, Mia seemed to sense something, glanced their way, then shyly looked down, gripping the bouquet even tighter.
