Chapter 784 Then Call the Police
Azalea whipped around, only to be blinded by a sudden flash of white light.
She stumbled back, lost her balance, and hit the pavement hard. A small truck swerved, barely missing her, and screeched to a stop just behind her.
Her body felt like it was freezing, and sweat started to bead on her forehead.
A sharp, warm pain radiated from her lower abdomen.
She touched the area and felt blood slowly seeping out. Panic-stricken, she screamed, "Somebody help me! Please, help!"
The truck driver, realizing the chaos he had caused, quickly sped away from the scene.
The cold wind howled, and on the wide, empty road, Azalea was all alone. The pain gnawed at her sanity, fueling her anger even more.
Saskia had run quite a distance but still couldn't find any trace of Azalea.
She pounded her head in frustration. Why did things always have to go so wrong?
She tried calling Azalea, but the call wouldn't go through. Azalea was probably still mad at her. The call was likely a lost cause.
They'd have to wait until they both calmed down and could talk things out. There was nothing between Saskia and Nathaniel, and there never would be.
Just as Saskia was about to head home, her phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number, but she answered to hear Nathaniel's voice. "Saskia."
Saskia's voice was weary. "I'm tired, and I don't know where Azalea went. Let's discuss things later when I find her."
Nathaniel's voice had a hint of amusement. "Really? Planning to have an open talk with me?"
Saskia was filled with anger but could only grit her teeth and try to reason with him.
She said, "If you're with her, treat her well. Azalea's a good person."
The amusement in Nathaniel's voice faded, replaced by a serious tone. "I'm not calling to hear that."
"Then we have nothing to talk about." Saskia didn't want to hear more and was about to hang up.
"You used to be a law student. You should know the penalty for stealing valuable property, right?" Nathaniel's tone was cold and emotionless, like a heartless lawyer.
Saskia's face changed instantly. "What do you mean?"
Nathaniel was meticulous, his laugh light. "The dress you took is a high-end piece, worth several thousand dollars."
"You want to call the police?" Saskia scoffed. "Fine, let them see what I look like and decide who to arrest."
"A lawyer versus a cleaning lady." Nathaniel's tone was deliberately drawn out.
His meaning was clear. No one would believe her.
Saskia was out of patience and coldly said, "Just you wait."
"I want it back tonight." Nathaniel's words were non-negotiable.
Saskia hung up, took a deep breath, and headed back the way she came.
Meanwhile, on a nearby street, a black car pulled up in front of Azalea. The person inside got out and helped her into the seat. "Miss, hang in there. We'll get you to the hospital soon."Azalea clung to the person's clothes, holding her stomach tightly. "Please, save my baby!"
It was Nathaniel's child. With their relationship so unstable, Azalea thought that she couldn't lose this baby. It was her only leverage.
The person replied, "Don't worry. I'll tell the doctors."
Hearing this, Azalea finally closed her eyes in relief.
Nathaniel had been waiting in the dark for a long time. He had a few drinks, but his mind was clear and cold.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, clear in the darkness.
A smile tugged at the corners of his lips, as he had thought Saskia wouldn't show up.
However, when he opened the door, the playful smile vanished, replaced by a chilling coldness.
He asked, "Who are you?"
The delivery man in uniform felt a cold shiver down his spine.
He quickly handed over a bag. "Mr. Egan, this is your delivery."
Nathaniel thought, 'Saskia, you really are clever.'
He narrowed his eyes, said nothing, and took the package, closing the door.
There was plenty of time ahead!
The delivery man sighed in relief and hurried downstairs.
In the emergency room, the busiest place in the city at night, medical staff were bustling around.
A nurse rushed out, asking, "Where are the family members?"
The young couple shook their heads. "We don't know. We found her on the road. She said she had a baby and begged us to save it."
"We can only ensure the mother's safety right now." The nurse was anxious.
They had to call the police. And they had to save the mother first.
After a long night, Azalea's condition finally stabilized.
Before dawn, she woke up, seeing the white ceiling, and knew where she was. She immediately grabbed the nurse's hand.
The nurse was startled but relaxed when she saw it was Azalea.
The nurse said, "You're not well. Rest. I'll get the doctor."
Azalea didn't let go, her eyes desperate.
She asked, "My baby?"
Seeing her tears, the nurse felt sympathy and spoke softly. "Miss, you were in a car accident. The baby didn't make it. But you're young, you can have more children."
"You don't understand!" Azalea broke down, crying.
Without the baby, she had no connection to Nathaniel.
It was all Saskia's fault!
Azalea's heart was filled with hatred, her aura intimidating the nurse.
"Rest. I'll get the doctor." With that, the nurse ran out.
However, Azalea pulled out her IV and stumbled out.
In the hospital, people stared curiously, but Azalea didn't care. She ran out.
Azalea knew where Benjamin was. She thought that Saskia had harmed her child, so Saskia couldn't blame her for being harsh!
They owed her!
When no one was looking, Azalea took Benjamin.
Benjamin rubbed his eyes sleepily. "Aunt Azalea, where's Mom?"
Azalea drove, silent.
Benjamin watched her, his voice concerned. "Aunt Azalea, are you okay? You look so tired. Did someone hurt you? I will fight the bad guys for you."
