Chapter 21 Never Drank Sweet Milk Again
By the time it was time to get off work, Pearl walked into the office. She was getting ready to attend the class reunion and planned to leave early.
Upon entering the office, she saw Oscar still there, so she politely greeted him, "Mr. Brown, it's time for me to leave."
Oscar stood up and walked towards Pearl step by step, his gaze cold. Pearl felt a sense of unease.
"Mr. Brown, what are you doing?" Pearl asked tentatively.
Oscar snorted coldly, "Do you have any plans?"
"I have something to attend to," Pearl replied.
"What is it?" Oscar pressed.
Pearl hesitated for a moment before she answered, "It’s my privacy."
Suddenly, Oscar reached out and grabbed Pearl's chin, pulling her towards him. "Who are you going to meet? Is it Adrian?"
It was then that Pearl realized Oscar had misunderstood. She looked at the bag on the sofa and explained, "That's Adrian's suit. I accidentally dirtied it, so I cleaned it for him out of courtesy."
"Doesn't he have an assistant? Why do you need to wash it?" Oscar questioned.
"It was my fault, it's a matter of courtesy," Pearl frowned.
"Courtesy?" Oscar sneered, "You seem so relaxed and friendly with him. How dare you being so close to him?"
Pearl pushed Oscar's hand away. "Mr. Brown, you're overthinking it. We are just friends."
Oscar's eyes darkened, filled with possessiveness. "Pearl, we're not divorced yet, and you're already thinking about someone else. How dare you?"
Pearl's heart sank, she didn't expect Oscar to say such things.
"Mr. Brown, you should make it clear that I am not you wife anymore. You can't interference my life," Pearl said coldly.
Oscar, filled with anger, forcefully kissed Pearl, with a punitive intent. Pearl struggled, but her strength couldn’t match his.
"No!" Pearl bit Oscar's lip in retaliation.
As Oscar winced in pain and released her, Pearl composed herself, took the bag, and walked away.
She would no longer tolerate Oscar's abuse; she was completely disappointed.
"Pearl." Adrian was waiting for her at the entrance, and greeted her as she came out.
"Why are you here?" Pearl asked in surprise.
Adrian smiled. "I was afraid you were too reserved, so I waited for you here. Let's go, the alumni gathering has started."
Pearl followed Adrian upstairs and into the private room.
"I remember you like peace and quiet, it's a bit noisy downstairs, so I booked this private room," Adrian said.
Pearl was surprised and asked, "How could you remember all that?"
"I have a good memory, I remember you like to drink sweet milk," Adrian said.
This touched on Pearl's memories, and she smiled bitterly. "It is because when I was nervous I wanted to drink something I liked to relieve stress. But now I won't drink it anymore."
"Why?" Adrian was puzzled.
"Because," Pearl paused, "because Oscar doesn't like it."
Adrian understood, he gently patted Pearl's shoulder. "From now on, you don't have to consider him anymore."
Pearl looked at Adrian, her emotions complex. He used to be her classmate, but now he was the one who made her feel the warmest.
