Chapter 236 You All Wish for My Death
Haley tilted her head and tumbled right off the bed, landing in a heap on the floor.
Oscar was about to push Haley away when Magdalen slapped her first.
Seeing Magdalen, Oscar's voice turned cold. "Magdalen, what are you doing here?"
Mae was the only one who rushed to help Haley.
"What am I doing? I'm slapping the mistress, can't you see?" Magdalen snapped, showing no mercy.
Haley cried harder, lying there looking utterly fragile.
Oscar frowned, pulling Haley up from the ground. "She's sick. I'm just here to check on her."
"And who are you to her that you need to check on her?" Magdalen shot back. "She's just pretending to get your sympathy. And you fell for it!"
"I'm her boss. Even if she's pretending, I need to check on her," Oscar said, feeling justified, though Magdalen's reaction seemed over the top.
"I don't believe it!" Magdalen retorted. "Why did she fall ill when you're in the hospital? This woman is such a good actress; she even won an award. Acting in front of you is a piece of cake!"
Magdalen crossed her arms, glaring at Haley.
Mae, seeing Haley in such a miserable state, spoke up, "Why do you treat Haley like this? She's already so pitiful. Why do you all have to treat her this way?"
In Mae's eyes, Haley had always had a tough journey.
First, her voice was damaged, and now she was deaf. Each time, it happened at the peak of Haley's career.
Everyone still bullied Haley, which made Mae indignant.
Magdalen couldn't stand it and said, "Pitiful? Is she pitiful? Oscar has helped her so much, and she's in such a glorious position now. If anyone is pitiful, it's Pearl!"
Magdalen had no sympathy for Haley's plight.
Magdalen would be grateful if Haley stayed away from Oscar.
Mae wiped Haley's tears and continued, "Haley is so seriously ill, and you all still bully her. Even if she made mistakes, you should forgive her. Besides, Haley has done nothing wrong. She has acted with integrity and hasn't wronged any of you!"
"Ill? Then I want to see if she's really ill!" Magdalen sneered, not taking Haley's frailty seriously. She walked over and pulled Haley up. "I want to see how thick-skinned you really are!"
Seeing Magdalen so fierce, Haley's eyes filled with fear. "Magdalen, what are you doing? Don't hit me."
Haley held her head, terrified and at a loss.
"Aren't you deaf? I want to see if you're really deaf. Oscar may be easy to fool, but I'm not. You're faking it to gain sympathy and dare to use tricks in front of me!" Magdalen grabbed Haley's hand, trying to force her to admit she was pretending to be pitiful.
Haley kept crying, her whole body trembling, and admitted her mistake, "I was wrong. Please don't make things difficult for me anymore. I'll stay away from everyone in the future. I'm just a useless person now. Stay away from me; anyone who touches me will be unlucky!"
Haley was near hysteria, on the verge of collapse.
Mae also pulled at Magdalen, protecting Haley. "Let go of Haley. She can't take any more stress now. What you're doing is practically murder!"
Seeing the argument escalate, Oscar grabbed Magdalen's arm, trying to stop her. "Magdalen, let her go!"
Magdalen shook off his hand. "No way. I'm exposing her lies today. She's not deaf at all!"
Haley started screaming.
"You all want me dead! I'll do it right now!" She pushed everyone away and bolted out of the room.
Haley ran headfirst into the wall.
Blood immediately started pouring from her head as she collapsed.
Pearl's eyes widened in shock, her face going pale as she stepped back.
Magdalen was stunned, not expecting Haley to attempt suicide.
Everyone froze.
"Haley!" Mae screamed. "You murderers, you're killing her!"
Oscar quickly scooped Haley up and rushed out. "Call a doctor!"
Mae didn't waste a second and ran to get help.
The doctor arrived and quickly wheeled Haley into the emergency room.
The chaos lasted a few minutes before things calmed down.
They all waited outside.
Mae kept crying.
Oscar's face was grim as he made phone calls nearby.
Magdalen, now calm, stared at the emergency room, shocked that Haley would go to such lengths.
It seemed she had underestimated Haley.
Pearl was still in shock.
Magdalen, now as if doused with cold water, was exceptionally calm. She turned to Pearl and, seeing her pale face, said, "Pearl, I'm sorry if I scared you."
Pearl looked at Magdalen and said, "Magdalen."
"You're pregnant; you should go rest," Magdalen said, already feeling some regret. "I was too impulsive and affected you. I'm sorry. I'll handle this."
"No, Magdalen," Pearl said. "I'm just worried that Haley's actions might affect you."
Magdalen replied, "It's okay. I'll handle it."
Pearl, however, holding her hand, was very worried. "You did it for me. I should have stopped you. If only I had stopped you."
Magdalen patted Pearl's hand and smiled gently. "Pearl, don't think like that. I'm just so straightforward that I have offended many people. I don't fear others' opinions. Besides, I can't stand the behavior of a mistress, not just for you. I just didn't expect it to turn out like this. Haley is ruthless!"
Magdalen had underestimated Haley.
Pearl was a bit worried. "I hope she's okay."
"Go rest. Lie down for a while. You can't overwork yourself!" Magdalen comforted Pearl. She would take responsibility for whatever happened, but she couldn't let Pearl and her unborn child be stressed.
Pearl couldn't help but worry, but Magdalen kept persuading her. Magdalen knew that if she didn't go, Magdalen would keep persuading her, so she didn't insist.
Instead, she looked at Oscar. Magdalen was his family, and he would surely find a way to handle it.
Pearl walked over, coincidentally in the direction of her ward.
Pearl wanted to ask Oscar about Haley's exact condition. It was better to understand the situation clearly.
